VIDEO: Border Patrol Attempt To Seize Phone From Libertarian Filming Inland Checkpoint Stop

Agent: “I don’t know if it’s a weapon”

Video that surfaced over the weekend shows border patrol agents close to El Paso, Texas attempting to seize a libertarian activist’s phone as he was videoing what he believed to be an unconstitutional checkpoint stop.

Radio host Tony Stiles captured the exchange as he and two colleagues were traveling to Florida from California for a public appearance. The journey did not involve a border crossing, and again raises concern over the legality of inland checkpoints.

Just waste time

Just waste time

The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good things is my religion. Thomas Paine, Godfather of the American Revolution

"How Do I Know That's Not A Weapon?"

"Because we both know that if you even suspected it could possibly be a weapon you would already have pulled your gun and emptied your entire magazine into my face...knucklehead."

I dont know if it's a weapon

"I don't know if it's a weapon, it's a knife or it's a gun. Give me your phone."

Why is he calling it a phone if he's so unsure of what it is?

We have a winner!

That is hard to watch; they

That is hard to watch; they are very brave; it is so strange to see. This is a reason to support more open borders. Closed borders give the excuse to do stuff like this, and a lot of other stuff too.

I've been stopped at this checkpoint myself...

A few years back I took a road-trip across country.

Heading west across Texas, I stopped in El Paso. The next day I decided to go check out Ciudad Juarez, Mexico (right across the border) to see what all the fuss was about.

On my way back, the U.S. border agent told me "you have got some big cojones going over there". I just shrugged. No biggie.

I got in my car and drove down a main road in El Paso and was immediately pulled over by EPPD. They just wanted to know what I was doing. Clearly, they were informed to stop me for pretty much no reason. They made something up about the speed limits are lower during school hours as it was a school bus lane or some BS like that.

I got on the highway headed west, and come to a sign that says 'Construction ahead, be prepared to stop'. Only it wasn't construction it was a Border Patrol checkpoint, 20+ miles inland from the border. I waited in the long line of cars, and when I got to the front they immediately pointed at me and said, "sir, we need you to pull over to the side for us please". Clearly, they were waiting for me. I wondered why that low-flying Cessna (or drone?) kept flying directly over my car, then looping around and flying over again and again, the whole way from El Paso till I reached the checkpoint. I said to the officer I didn't want to. Several more officers came over and said it is not a choice, and if I do not cooperate they will call NM State Police (right over border into NM) to come and arrest me. They had a dog do a walk around, and of course it 'hit' on my passenger door. Of course, it was the Chicos Tacos I had ordered for lunch (an El Paso staple Taco joint).

They dragged me into their little room and I had to wait for a long time. They finger printed me. Mug-shots. And apparently scanned my car with an x-ray machine thinking I was a drug mule or something. I over heard one officer say to the superior that "We scanned it, and it's clean".

I won't get into whether or not I may have had a small amount of homegrown medicinal herb remedy that they may or may not have found. Whether I did or not, they let me go, though they may have confiscated the hypothetical small amount of medicinal herb remedy I may or may not have had in the trunk. They may or may not have taken the inside-out glass 'medical apparatus' as well.
But they did not arrest me, and they let me go...

Road pirates, no business existing inside the borders of the U.S., let alone harassing Natural Born American Citizens such as myself, and hypothetically confiscating my hypothetical 'medicinal herb remedy'.

Also, I have since made it a point to pay attention whenever I hear something about Juarez or El Paso, or the Border. I have seen on Nat-Geo that they have a very intense operation where all the major alphabet law enforcement agencies and local law enforcement work hand in hand. I clearly experienced that first hand. I wonder how much money they spent on little old me, for nothing?
