Senior Centers and Retirement Communities

A place to canvass that I haven't heard discussed are senior centers and retirement communities.

A friend of mine told me that his grandfather visits the senior center regularly and the only thing most of them knew about candidates were what the MSM was showing on the tube. And this demographic votes.

You know these are the people less prone to read the Internet.

He told his grandfather about Ron Paul, and he then took a couple of slim jims and DVDs to the senior center. He told me the DVD now gets played more frequently than CNN or *gasp* FOX.

Talk to people you know - they will listen. Encourage them to spread the word. Then get out and canvass your precinct.

I had mentioned this as a response to another thread, but thought it might be worth adding as a new thread - Boots on the Ground, get out and canvass - oh yeah, and donate...

How do you get in?

Many of these communities are closed to anyone but relatives or some guy who brings his dog on Tuesdays.

Wouldn't we be considered a solicitor and turned away?

There's a senior trailer community near here. Someone in another city asked me to bring her grandma a DVD. It's closed to anything door-to-door. I was thinking of having the person's grandma host a house party.

Defend Liberty!

Are they Private or Public?

Many communities have public civic centers for seniors where all are welcome - is this not the case near you?

Enough Conjecture focus on Action

Wow, this gets buried fast...

Whether Rush is a closet Ron Paul supporter, who the next endorsement will come from, 3rd party runs, what Huckabee might do doesn't matter.

At the end of the day, the people who vote, your neighbor, doesn't care about any of that. They care about the people they know - like you and me - and what our thoughts are. The problem is no one talks to each other anymore, with the exception of a nod or a wave.

Get to know your neighbor, spread the word, get your boots to the ground and canvass your precinct - talk to people, stop spreading conjecture.

Good subject

Besides for the fact that Senior centers are a good place to try to win converts to RP, visiting a senior center is a positive way to show support and respect for our elderly Americans. Many of the regular attendees are widows and widowers, or older couples who don't have their family close.

Anybody can do this!

Even if you are too scared to knock on doors you can go visit these people! They love visitors and conversation about new topics! Take them some dvd's too! Tell them about the Media bias----Ron Paul got 0% coverage last week---they will be offended by this especially when they rely on the Old Media.

People keep saying that Old People Vote---it's true. Explain how Ron Paul will fund their programs and balance the budget. This is a major voting group.

This is true

Every community has a Senior Citizen Center, and most have a dinner at least once a week, plus gatherings for Bingo. In my community anyone can go to the dinners, senior or not. They welcome visitors.
I am well into my senior years, but do not go to the Senior Citizen Centers. Why? You ask? I guess because I don't feel "senior" yet, I have a very productive life and am involved in all sorts of things----not senior projects.

Bumped for Relevance

Seems to be many posts still complaining about last night, what other candidates are doing, etc. and all the posts that point out strategy and canvassing are getting buried quickly.

FYI - thanks for the comments

Beautiful!

You're quite right about senior centers. That's a great report about the RP DVD. We should take several (different ones, and at least a couple of each kind) in to each center.

It is...

an excellent mechanism. You (I say you and not we, because my state is done) could even offer to drive groups to the polls if they need transportation.

If you go visit them they

If you go visit them they will vote for your candidate unless they want a different one for a specific reason. They usually like to see someone who is passionate about someone, and if the talks or DVD's make sense and the offer of a ride, we will get their votes.
