Too soon to talk 3rd party, but I hate this Logic: "do not go third party because that just guarantees Democratic victory"

I hate this line of logic because if you think McCain is better than Hillary you need to go back to what McCain has said about Iran. I am still a Republican only because of Ron Paul. The other candidates on either side can form one party for all I care.

I also hate this line of logic because it is not necessarily true. There are A LOT of Democrats who will vote for Dr. Paul if they think he is the only voice for peace.

But I do agree that it is too soon just yet for 3rd party talks. Lets wait untile after Super Tuesday and see where we stand, eh?!

I feel good about the chances of a GOP win,HOWEVER

HYDROMAN
I would love to see Dr. Paul run as the Constitutionalist Party nomanee.
And I can`t wait to hear "Suckass Sean" crying about the 3rd party run.

It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people that pay no price for being wrong.

There's still time

RP should know, before the L convention, whether he has a chance of getting the R nomination. If not, I hope he runs L (and maybe C as well). Reasons for this include

  • His supporters aren't interested in voting D or R.
  • It would increase the visibility and membership of the LP.
  • It would give the LP automatic ballot status in more states for 2012.

It would surely be the most successful presidential campaign in LP history. Somewhere between 2% and 5% of the popular vote is probable, but who knows?

I agree that not running because it would increase the odds of a D win is a silly argument. With a D win, you get screwed on taxes and somewhat less on war and civil liberties. With an R win, you get screwed on war and civil liberties, and somewhat less on taxes. The difference is negligible.

I think most of you don't realize what is involved

in running as an independent. I know because in 1992 I was a county co ordinator for a 3rd party candidate who was talking about almost the exact same issues as RP. I would not recommend going this route because ballot access is nearly impossible. The cost is enormous. We are having trouble coming up with the money RP needs for this campaign. We will need even more if he is to run independent. We need to focus our energies and finances on getting RP the nomination of the Republican party. It is way way too soon to give up or to lose hope.

Truthy, third-party and

Truthy, third-party and independent are not the same thing. If RP was the LP candidate that wouldn't be so bad. The LP's candidate had ballot-access in 48 states in 2004. Yes, the GOP nomination would be best, but LP isn't horrible.

I left the Republican Party

After Reagan
There was no way I could vote for George Bush Sr. He was a liberal in the 1st campaign against Reagan...He saw how to win. Changed to a Neocon. I saw the same stripes.in a different message. This is the McLaim campaign. Sayng he's conservative is like saying Jesse Jackson is a Libertarian. No way they change their stripes. Of course I will vote third party. If Ron paul does not run then another. Go Paul Go!

Republican Party...

without Ron Paul is just the other garbage can of corruption. Rep. Party and Dem. Party are two wings of the same nasty bird.

I will vote Third Party, I will not reward the GOP for it's

blatant resistance to the party platform. The GOP could have gained millions of new supporters, and millions of the old party that left. They choose to stick with the Bush, Neocon theory of government, and they will lose because of it.

it doesn't matter...

Which party gets elected. both parties will keep us at war, we will fall..

The GOP is going to get

The GOP is going to get slaughtered whether Dr. P runs third party or not.

Just look at the Dem voter turn out and cash raised. 2-1. The GOP is toast and may never recover as a party.

Ron Paul is their only hope.

I say their because even though I am a 25 yr registered republican, I won't be after this election...

Where have you decided to go?

LP, CP, somewhere else? I and my entire family is switching to LP. I am working on getting a new LP member everyday (that's my goal). The GOP is weak right now, if we choose the 3rd strongest party in the US we can overtake them. And at least the LP platform sounds like it was written by intelligent people.

Nader just formed an exploratory

And they're probably telling him the same thing. But the reason not to run third party is ballot access laws won't let those win. And despite all the pervasive media bias we bust here almost-hourly, the Republicans have been forced to endure an adult presence at their normally-boring debates. Let's not give up on them unless/until Dr. Paul does.
JMR

Hopefully Nader will run

He can draw votes from the Democrats. Just like in the documentary, they didn't think Nader was relavent enough to influence the election. Then the Democrats blamed him post election that he stole enough of the democratic vote to tilt things toward republicans. Stupid.

But if Nader runs, then we do risk the possibility of another pro-war spend and spend neocon running the white house.

So what to do? Push our guy? That's what we're doing now and the powers that be (being the media and our own party) are dead set against giving our man any time or credability.

I'm reluctant for Paul to go third party. But In the event Nader does run, I'm even more concerned. So I'd hope that Ron stays in with the Republicans for as long as possible and then teams up with Nader. They'd have to compromise on some of their positions to make it work, but more than anything I want Ron taking the lead on Monetary and Foreign policy. Those are the biggest problems.

Isn't this just as much

Isn't this just as much about starting to change the republican party back to what it was as it is about electing Dr. Paul? If he runs third party, it will severely hurt his chances at starting to reform the party

Read the frickin' platform...

The GOP platform. 250+ References to Bush. More foreign and domestic welfare programs than I can count, lock down on freedom, rampant spending, etc etc etc..

http://www.gop.com/images/2004platform.pdf

The party is beyond reform. I recognized this when discussing politics with a local GOP leader. He had all the talking points that GOP always has, but then turned around and claimed RP wasn't perfect so he couldn't endorse, support or even consider him, and he would be bad for the party.

I am done with the GOP.

That platform's from 2004.

Go President Paul!

That was the last time that it changed...

They are working on the new one now...

THAT is their current platform!

Yep Paul vs. Hillary ...

Paul will expose Hillary. She takes money from none other than Rupert Murdock Mr. Fake News himself.
Hillary in Iraq until 2013 as quoted on Meet the Press.

Deep down everyone is Libertarian.
Live and Let Live, form of government.

get over the democrat

get over the democrat republican thing... BOTH PARTIES ARE THE SAME!!!! IT DOES NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE WHICH PARTY GET IN.. THEY BOTH SCREW US TO DEATH WAKE UP! $&%#

wolfe's picture

The argument is that we couldn't win...

SORE LOSER LAWS. How many times does that have to be said?

Never give up the fight. I will be voting LP if Ron Paul doesn't get the GOP nod. And either way, I will be active in working for the LP from now on as well as doing whatever Dr. Paul requires of us.

When the GOP faught us every step of the way, the vast majority of the LP stood beside and with us.

The Philosophy Of Liberty -

Yes

It is the old, don't vote your conscience angle.

Let's stay in this party until the very end. See what happens. Let him totally lose this nomination and then switch. Don't switch unless we have to. Let Dr. Paul make this decision.

3rd party run? No way

I will not vote for either of the candiates that the MSM has picked for me to vote for, I will either write in Dr. Pauls name or will vote Green Party, etc. but I see no differences in Hillary, Obama, McCain (even though he is a very scary man) or Mitt, they are all the same, so I refuse to participate in MSM's games. Dr. Paul has said that he will not run 3rd party, so he knows more than we do about this, but I am still praying that God will hear our prayers and give us a fair election. God does expect us to do all we can but then He WILL step in and help us.

I'm voting for Ron Paul - even if I have to write it in.

The GOP has not earned my vote with their dispicable behavior.

Don't forget

Dr. Paul always reserves that "wiggle room."

bump

i agree with you.
I've also said that the lower rank and file republicans may go for this line, however. [that it's the only way to beat Hillary]. So for those folks, who may post this though on DP,it may be a good strategy. Not for me,however. I'm in the same boat as you.
