Huge Victory For Tea Party: House Majority Leader Cantor Defeated In Primary!

David Brat election results

Throughout his entire career, Eric Cantor has supported countless measures and budgets to increase our debt and grow government. Despite his fiscal rhetoric, Eric Cantor voted for new spending measures like Medicare Part D, TARP bailouts, Chinese bailouts, Wall Street bailouts, two unfunded wars, and backed the kick-the-can-down-the-road Ryan-Murray budget.

Update: HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER CANTOR DEFEATED IN PRIMARY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNb2ZPG5VVo&feature=youtu.be

David Brad goes after unfunded wars and NSA illegal spying on Americans siding with Amash

The man who just beat Cantor, Dave Brat, has taken a different tack on surveillance issues. In a recent interview with the Richmond Times-Dispatch, he argued that "The NSA’s indiscriminate collection of data on all Americans is a disturbing violation of our Fourth Amendment right to privacy." On his website, Brat says he favors "the end of bulk phone and email data collection by the NSA."'

If Brat takes Cantor's seat, it will shift the Republican Party a bit more toward the Amash position on surveillance issues. That's significant because Section 215 of the Patriot Act, which the government has cited to justify its phone records program, will come up for renewal next year. With more Republicans like Brat and Amash in Congress, that could be a tough sell.

and

Brat's chief of staff also volunteered for Ron Paul's campaign in 2008 and 2012. Not only was this a great steal, but it seems like Brat might actually be closer to Ron's ideas than most "Tea Party" candidates.

Kevin McCarthy or Pete Sessions

For next majority house leader? Now that Cantor is out the door (July 31st officially) it's the next big question.

I know the establishment wants McCarthy.

And They Got Him

They elected McCarthy as House Majority Leader. As much as I like Raul Labrador, he didn't have much of a chance. He entered the race a little too late.

niether

Neither one...

Reps. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) or Rep Jordan would be decent.

I've heard Hensarling's name floated for Majority Whip

Haven't had time to check them out yet.

Why this is an even bigger deal than you think.

The political insiders REALLY wanted this guy to win. He was being groomed by the establishment as the heir apparent for John Boehner. He was given a 20 to 1 campaign finance advantage by donors from outside the state of Virginia. THEY don't do that for just anybody.

Not only that, Cantor was the incumbent with name recognition and prestige within the GOP that no challenger could match.

David Brat beat him decisively after tagging Cantor as a supporter of granting legal status for immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children.

This shows me that:

1) THEY don't rely on vote fraud to rig most elections, even "important" ones. And why would they when they have the MSM, big money, and the party leadership in their corner?

2) David Brat really isn't one of THEM. This is something you can't say about a lot of the "Tea Party" candidates.

3) The national "Tea Party" organizations really ARE controlled by the establishment. According to the New York Times "Mr. Brat was unable to secure the endorsement of Tea Party groups with national networks, a sign of how under the radar his candidacy was. With FreedomWorks, Tea Party Express and Tea Party Patriots all staying out of the race, Mr. Brat raised just over $200,000." The fact that they did not give him any money could be explained away by the fact that he was such a long shot. But endorsements don't cost a penny. And it wouldn't take much time to establish that Mr. Brat was saying all of the things that are supposed to qualify someone as a "Tea Party" candidate. In fact, maybe the real problem was that he meant them.

4) Being "anti-immigration" is a winning stance for candidates that want to oppose big government. This proved true for the UK Independence Party and it would be true for constitutional conservative and libertarian candidates in the U.S.

The Virtual Conspiracy

FreedomWorks is mostly run by

FreedomWorks is mostly run by our people now. But nobody outside the district thought Brat could pull this off.

FreedomWorks may be "our people"...

... and nobody (including me) would have given him a chance in Hades of upsetting Cantor. That still is no excuse for leaving him without an endorsement.

With or without an endorsement from the "Tea Party" organizations, the MSM was poised to count this as another loss for the "Tea Party" if Brat hadn't pulled it off. Either way, it would have cost them nothing to endorse him.

But the biggest lesson from this is that native born Americans are more than happy to support a candidate who REALLY wants to preserve our nation.

Free markets and smaller government without that has been getting a big "meh" from the people.

The Virtual Conspiracy

Sometimes I wonder if he was

Sometimes I wonder if he was able to pull off this victory because he DIDN'T have the Tea Party endorsements.

I wonder if having these tea party endorsements pushes you into the fringe. Is it possible that he came across as more likable, believable, moderate, and more matter-of-fact because he didn't have any endorsements?

Supporters behind the scenes...

....also need our support. I've always liked or preferred GOA over NRA.

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

he sounds like a religious zealot

but I like a lot of what he says. Hopefully he is tolerant of the freedom of others? On immigration we should welcome the brightest and the best -it's just plain dumb not to welcome these sort of assets..

Government is supposed to protect our freedom, our property, our privacy, not invade it. Ron Paul 2007

SteveMT's picture

These kind of victories should be savored; they are so rare.

Also removing Lindsey Graham would have been even better, but that was not to be this time around. The political game is so rigged these days in favor of the incumbents, especially the crooked ones, that any victory anywhere IS a victory.

Brat looks to have a clear path to getting elected in November. However, there will be enormous political pressure brought to bear on him in the coming months to be absorbed into the GOP Borg establishment,....or else. The GOP would rather see Brat lose in November than to have another "renegade" republican elected that will vote with them only half of the time. I hope Brat will remain strong during this GOP assault.

Happy to see Cantor go

Though I'm a bit dissapointed that the person replacing him demagogues on the illegal immigration issue. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

I don't

necessarily identify with the tea party as it is now thought of....I did back when we started it, but this win really lifted some clouds for me today. I was reaching new lows in my apathy and faith in voters. I hope this continues.

Well this is great news to wake up and have coffee to.

I think I'll get a second cup and read it again.

1 establishment sell out - down. (And a key establishment player to boot.)

Brat teaches Hayek in his economic class!

Therefore he has that part right at least.

He also speaks of adherance to the Constitution and returning power to the states.

A video of one of his speeches can be seen here...

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Yea - they all do before they are elected

So did Ted Cruz. Even that Ryan idiot that was the VP candidate claimed to have read Ayn Rand and Hayek.

Good News, but...

STOP with the "Tea Party" BS!!

It doesn't exist. Just because a candidate beats a country club establishment type isn't evidence that it does.

It is so tired...
