The Four Agreements and the Daily Paul

The Four Agreements is a sweet little book. Compact wisdom that is applicable to the Daily Paul.

1. Be Impeccable with Your Word

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don't Take Anything Personally

Nobody knows you here. They have an image of you based on a few data points that you have provided. That image exists only in their mind.

3. Don't Make Assumptions

When you assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME. (My typing teacher taught us that.) Look again at #2. If no one knows you, the converse is that you don't know anyone else, either. All you have is a mental projection (a reality hologram, I call it) that exists nowhere but in your mind.

If you must assume, assume the best, not the worst.

4. Always Do Your Best

This speaks for itself.

Yeah, no kidding

Great observation. I'd like to meet that waitress, and give her a big smile.

Speaking for chat

which in no way I can,

We did make a mistake and we bear this burden collectively. I was for instaban but we really tried. Because refusal doesn't become chat and this demon like most had compelling aspects and we really tried. We tried prayer with this person and for this person and we tried friendliness and inclusion and we did not self police enough and this allowed perhaps many people to get hurt.

I wholeley and totally support the elimination of this demon. I am aware that we are dwindling, losing blood daily as a communications tool. I do not see how we can be two things on this root level that is not already addressed by software.

I want to stand and say I will personally do better next time and protect you more not less. And I'm sorry I let you take this much.

being the owner of this site

it is truly easy for you type
You do not have to put up with people's crap.
You can ban them for anything.
Let me ask this of you..Have you ever put up with another poster
posting your address on this site for all to see, read and then get spam?
I bet not
Have you ever been told to F-off,go F yourself? I have been subjected to all of it here, and more, while we have to deal with, you don't,and with good reason
I have had my address,my online comments posted here, and much more.
I had one who I told I was playing the devils advocate, tell me to go F myself
and this guy was running for a seat !!!
While your words have meaning,it will only have meaning to ones who want meaning,or something better. To all others,it falls on deaf ears, and there, shall it remain...maybe
yours words are inspiring, but only to those who want to be inspired,to all others, your words are meaningless.
but,you have to realize, you have to put up with nothing here, nor would I,if in the same boat.while we can ride, take a trip,we are not the captain,we are not subject to same rules as you be subjected to that takes place here
things are not equal, you should know this.
maybe another side of the same coin?

There are sites I don't own where I am subject to the same abuse

It is not a Daily Paul problem.

A while back, on the old Campaign for Liberty site, there was a guy, also a member here, who put up an article that said I should be tried for treason and hanged.

Of course I banned him here. I'm trying to get rid of all the assholes, yes. I don't spend time with assholes in my life and I don't see why I should make an exception for the internet.

It was another matter getting it taken off the C4L site. I emailed Ron Paul directly, which addmitedly wasn't the proper channel, but I did get action. And I did want him to know what was going on with the website that was ostensibly in his name.

I have had plenty of people tell me to go Fuck myself online, and I've also told my fair share of people to go Fuck themselves, both online and off.

The fact that I've been on both sides of that coin gives me a little perspective on the matter. Who was I telling to fuck off? Some words on a screen? I have no idea who is on the other side - all I know is that the words on the screen pushed some buttons in my personal reality hologram and made me react.

The last guy I told in person to fuck off wouldn't shut up, so I told him to go fuck himself and got up and left. I effectively banned him from my life. I haven't seen him since, and have no desire to.

But was I reacting to that "person" or my own internal world, by how I felt? Should that guy take it "personally?"

As to having your address posted on the Daily Paul, that is a shame. I assume it has been taken down. I recall many requests from people to take down information, which I generally comply with ASAP.

But as jrd pointed out below, I have plenty to put up with here, plenty to deal with.

For example, the "Hang Nystrom" thread in chat, that everyone here knows about, and giggled along with because they thought it was funny.

Do you think it is funny, too? Hang Nystrom, the guy that runs the Daily Paul. Giggle, giggle. Isn't that funny.

Believe me, I've endured plenty of slander, venom, invective, abuse, speculation, lies and general hatred elsewhere on the internet. Spam? I get it right in my inbox. Letters that begin,

"Michael Nystrom, you should be ashamed of yourself for blah blah blah..."

Do I take it personally?

How could I? I don't know those people, and none of them know me. That is my whole point. Yes, I can ban people here (in fact, I banned someone yesterday for the simple fact of being a constantly annoying negative nelly), but I can't ban the whole internet.

But it does make me sad. Sad to think of how ignorant, arrogant and stupid people can be.

But your comment makes my point:

While your words have meaning,it will only have meaning to ones who want meaning,or something better. To all others,it falls on deaf ears, and there, shall it remain...maybe
yours words are inspiring, but only to those who want to be inspired,to all others, your words are meaningless.

I have no control over what you do. I have no idea who you are. You have no idea who I am. Words will have meanings to those who choose to give them meanings. Whatever meanings they choose are out of my control.

Whether you choose to be inspired or not has nothing to do with me.

You think I'm different because I own this website. You are wrong.

things are not equal, you should know this.

Everything is equal. We are all headed for the same place. None of us gets out of here alive, and we can't take any of our money or our toys with us.

My love to you.

'it is truly easy for you type
You do not have to put up with people's crap.'

Try getting sued, having plants from opponents posting to stir up trouble.. 9/11 truth trying to take over and whatever else springs up.

I couldn't do Nystroms job and wouldn't want to. We get to park our ideas and attitudes here. He puts up with WAY more chit than I ever would.

We are lucky to have the DailyPaul. Nystrom has no commitment to us. His commitment, I believe, is to the ideology that Ron Paul leads.

Can you imagine the amount of bullchit he has to put up with? Please put yourself in his shoes for a moment.

I wasn't speaking that deep

My small point, was,he can ban people who step over the lines,The rest of us
are not so fortunate.
The rest of what I typed, was an attempt to convey why I felt that way.
I try to see this place as a house.the owner has the rights, but the guests do not,and the guests can be asked(however nicely) the owner wants to leave
I realize my first comment sounded bitchy, but it was not meant that way.
I wasn't talking about that crappy lawsuit he went through, and I wasn't aware of threats against him.I have never met MN,but I know he is in my heart
as a brother. But again,it was about who can enter your own home, who can stay, and who gets the boot, and a head knock to the door frame on the way out,and who doesn't have that right. When I put things to print,it is as if all parties are in the room having a conversation,at times I fail at that attempt.and it just makes people mad, irritated, and frustrated.I know what I want to say,how I want to say,but as I and others have witnessed,at times it come across that way. From the brain to the fingers, something gets lost in translation,at times it gets real bad and is the reason why,i mainly type them one liners(Its a lot safer for me,and easier on all involved)
I do agree with you most of the time, and NO,I wouldn't want MN's job here, his heart is to big
But truly, I meant no harm to anyone here, or anywhere for that matter
Thanks for taking the time to talk with me,I love that :)

I appreciate your response

And you're right. It is different for me here. I can ban people. But before I closed the door, they could just reappear under another name.

But this is just a small spot on the internet, and in the world. Elsewhere on the internet, and in the world at large, it is the same.

Nicholson said he couldn't do my job. I'm getting to the point where I can't do it either.

Peace out Deacon

I usually agree with you

I usually agree with you, and in a way I do agree with you here also, in some senses at least.

And really I’m just waiting for Mountaincat to show up again so I can say Hi to him before I unplug for a while again, but I want to point something out.

I saw that guy treat you like crap, and that was shitty of him.

But I’ve seen people treat Michael like crap also. I watched a guy talk about killing him and I watched regulars around here not say a damn thing to that guy and they should all be ashamed of themselves. Every single one of them and they know who they are. I watched regulars around here, some that get special treatment toy with the idea of letting users who have been banned 2,3,4 times now post from their account even though some of those users only intentions were to abuse the site. I watched an official “I hate Michael Nystrom” thread go up at rpf because he banned a guy that was given numerous warnings and chances. I have watched ppl that claim to love Michael and this place spit on it and him every chance they get when his back is turned. Yes, he can just ban ppl, but contrary to popular belief he doesn’t do it as often and tyrannically as ppl suggest. In my short time as a moderator I have only banned one person and it was just a banning from the chat room, it’s not fun, and that guy had numerous accounts and was breaking rule after rule after rule on a daily basis and I still gained the wrath of his internet best friends, so I know it is not fun to ban ppl and I know Michael doesn’t do it as easily as some ppl seem to think he does.

I do think Michael has to deal with a lot more of it than you or I. He has to worry about ppl selling or just giving their account info to ppl he has already banned. He has to worry about if this next guy he bans is going to start an I Hate Michael Nystrom thread/site/blog/meme somewhere. He has to worry about what makes its way on to the front page while he takes a few hours off every now and then, is it something he wants to represent the site? He has to worry about keeping advertisers, he has to worry about spam, he has to move stuff into the original box and the features box, he has to try to cool down any flame wars, he has to worry about finding content that is new and interesting, he has to worry about copyright infringement laws, and lawsuits, and so on and so forth.

This post made me think also. I take things personally. It’s hard not to sometimes. Even Michael said we are getting down to an intimate number of people here, so when it is intimate and someone is doing something just to be a jerk to you or someone else, again…it is hard to not take it personally.

That guy you were playing Devil’s advocate for hasn’t been around in a while, it is too bad he treated you like he did, he could have gained and benefited from you.

I'm also sorry to hear about your address going up, I hope it was unpublished quickly.

Shitty ppl seems to just be the nature of the internet and everyone on the internet gets to deal with them even the site owner.

:)

there is always another side of the coin,I can see one side only these days
And it is nice for someone to point to the other side, such as you have done for here and a few other spots on the DP.For that,I am totally grateful.
I was not aware of the nonsense MN goes or went through.reading that, has saddened me to the core.It is not the politics, topics or anything but the people that keep me coming back all these years.I wouldn't/couldn't wish harm on anyone. With out people, nothing truly matters. What I told you about having book smarts AND common sense I meant..and still do.more so now
That post about my where abouts and online comments never went unpublished, they are still in my comments here>I try to not take people and their comments to serious(sure,at the time it happens,it sucks)but I get over it pretty quickly.I know I have said some thing to certain people here that I wasn't very proud of.I can say I am sorry for spouting off, then move on.And I am more than willing to forgive others for acting like I have in the past.
Congrats on becoming a mod here.I have been MOD in chat rooms in the past, while it can be fun,it can be a pain at times.
In closing, thank you again for pointing about things in the shadows and darkness

Oh Good

I'm glad you saw where I was coming from.

You said knowing some of that saddened you, it saddened me also. It shook me a little to be honest. I thought so much higher of some of the people involved and when I found out what I was dealing with I was a bit shocked.

Yes, MN deals with shit, so do we. The one thing I think Nystrom has in his favor and I tell him this often is that he can post whatever he wants. I guess we can all do the same if it is within site guidelines, but you know as well as I do that if we post something that upsets the DP masses we will have to spend all day fighting with people over silly things or watching the downvotes collect. I think he has a little more leniency there, ppl are less willing to downvote him and start unnecessary arguments with him, yet even some still do that.

What a world we live in....It's a crazy place.

That was impeccably intense! :D

You are spot on that "it will only have meaning to ones who want meaning". I think I will embrace that as somewhat axiomatic as it seems true far beyond this post and website. Being a captain of sorts, Michael does seem to bear a stronger air of intimidation to those who are tempted to give him something to "have to put up with", but ultimately we are no different in how we choose to react or respond to other peoples' crap. I have actually found this website to be excellent ground on which to practice how to respond well in heated situations and not to simply react. What I like about these four "agreements" is that they are well aligned as reminders with whatever it is that I need to improve in my attempts to remain happy through turbulent social intercourse. I can get as lost and frustrated as anyone while surfing social media, cyber road rage, the works. I'm humbled at discovering that I desperately need to tote my spiritual toolbox around with me. In that toolbox are posts such as this one, the Saint Francis Prayer, and other such seemingly small but effective devices, little tools that help me maneuver tight spots. Hear is my latest tool. Perhaps you think that was a typo. :D This particular tool is one I reach for immediately upon booting up my computer and going online. It's the first page I navigate to before going anywhere else online [like the DP]. It's a youtube page, and since the actual tool is embeddable, I shall yank it into this comment and loan it to you. In fact you don't have to worry about getting it back to me, for it seems that the more it's handed forward, the more it seems to breed like rabbits...

http://youtu.be/d4OwK3W7sn4 ... Hope you doin' okay deacon! ;)

Makes me happy

When a nugget of truth is found and held onto, anymore it is hard to come by.
downright illusive in the land of lies.If things aren't quick and easy, most leave it by the wayside. The things I hold dear are not from this world, but from,I do not know anymore.Once I thought I did,but it escapes me now.
I knew what MN meant by this post of his,but not all will see or want to grasp its intent or meaning,A meaning that is above the simple word of "meaning".
Thanks for that song, usually I can't stand that type of music, but this one was different, and helped me feel better (I don't know why) maybe it just was agreeable and or right.
You told, you hoped I was doin' okay. While I cannot really answer that,as I am 'hear' for a purpose, how I am doing is all part of the experience,so I don't know if I am good or bad,I am living with and how whatever it was that created me and gave me as my own tools
I hope you and yours are well as can be expected with all that is going on,and with the illusions of things seen, but unseen

Good advice

I wish I'd read your post before I made my last.

Gosh you're young

Your typing teacher got that from The Odd Couple episode, "My Strife in Court" - though your teacher may not have even known it.

I remember watching that particular episode back in the early 70s. Everyone was repeating that line for weeks afterwards - and it's still heard today as, "You know what happens when you assume?" One of the best sitcoms; that and Taxi.

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.
James Madison

if you are going to go the Toltec route, I recommend this book:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Teachings-Don-Carlos-Applications/...

“Although it was the middle of winter, I finally realized that, within me, summer was inextinguishable.” — Albert Camus

I'm not so sure

Castenada practiced sorcery. I've met good teachers who met him and they discouraged us from going that route. Actually, they considered him a phoney - but I wasn't supposed to hear that conversation, and once they were aware I was within earshot quickly changed the topic of their discussion.

During my youthful spiritual journeying, I met and studied with shamans and they said that the difference between shamans and sorcerers was the area of the body they worked from - shamans worked from heart energy and sorcerers worked from lower gut energy. A shaman gives and is concerned for others, a sorcerer takes and is only concerned about himself. They also said that Jesus was a shaman.

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.
James Madison

most spiritual teachers are phony

Castaneda was a phony. Most spiritual teachers are full of shit. But I have met Victor Sanchez and he was very genuine, wise, and humble.

What you say about gut and stomach I would say about the eastern and western paths. The eastern path is gut centered and the western path is heart centered. But this has nothing to do with being or not being concerned with others. Rather it has to do with how much emphasis is put on embodiment.

“Although it was the middle of winter, I finally realized that, within me, summer was inextinguishable.” — Albert Camus

The Four Egregiousnesses

For a bit of fun...

1. Be Impossible with Your Word: Why mean what you say when you say mean things?
2. Don't Take Anything Personally (use the Government).
3. Don't Make Assumptions, Cast Aspersions. Be Master of Your Reality!
4. Always Look Your Best, then Maybe We Won't Notice What You've Done.

The only question left is: Are these Egregiousnesses or Egregiousnouses? Or Egregiousnuts?

Smart typing teacher!

That's one of the earliest lessons of my life thanks to my Grandmother. In fact whenever I use the word, it looks a little like this. "ASSuME"

1. Your integrity is your

1. Your integrity is your rock.
2. If others make it personal, then it might be their issue.
3. Make hypotheses, not assumptions. Big difference.
4. Here's where we may differ. If we were not selective about where we tred our best, then we would be perfectionist, depressed, and unproductive. I think that the author means something different than the way that it sounds.

‘Each individual is separated from others by a "taboo of personal isolation"...this "narcissism of minor differences"'
