The Essence of a Carefree Summer

Well, it's finally here: SUMMER!!!

A magical time for many, young and old, with, for many of us, lasting memories of summers-gone-by, and the prospect of reliving those wonderful days of yesteryear.

While perusing some websites I came upon an article, from a summer many years ago, but it still seems that some things never change.

AH! The magic of summer!
What will YOU be doing this year?

From LIFE Magazine:
"Like a human water fountain, three-year-old Duncan Richardson stands on a pool ladder — artfully spewing water...."
"..., as they always have, and still do today, kids like Duncan splashed and spouted, reveling in the magic of a summertime pool."

Up Date to Carefree Summer

..I was fortunate enough to spot an advertisement on the bulletin board for a :
"Tex-Mex Lunch & Blue-Grass Festival"
The headliners?
All good friends that donate their musical talents to events at the:
D & H Canal Museum in Cuddebackvile, NY

It was awesome, and wonderful to be greeted by my "compadres" who, had assumed that I had hightailed it down to Texas.
A bad Motorcycle collision with a deer last August, preceded by another accident (hit from behind 3 weeks earlier) had kept me out-of-the-loop, so to speak.
It's so good to riding again...and playing my guitar(s), which I had thought was never going to happen again...however..I buckled-down and made it a big part of my physical therapy....fingers, wrist exercises.
NOTE:
The same predicament faced LI native Billy Joel some years back...remember the videos with him playing guitar instead of his usual piano?...That's Right!
Thanks to those who have replied here.

Thanks Stonewall...Great Time..

...and the rolling hills, scenic lakes and great weather contributed to a wonderful event.
Daytime temps: High 70's, Low 80's...clear skies, low humidity, and nightime temps of 48-50 degrees, with a gazillion stars out at night!
Schenectady NY:
Birthplace of Geo. Westinghouse.
Hotbed of "REPEAL THE SAFE ACT" with many yard signs to that effect.

Here's hoping you also have a good summer.
God Bless, Danton

'Ride-in' Movie Night

Wow! Betty! Nice "Line-Up"!

..although there were at least 4 bands performing onstage each day/night, the most prominent was "Blue Oyster Cult", who were fantastic!...and yes, there were "original members" who performed with gusto, and great virtuosity.
NOTE:
Getting a "contact high" was a common occurrence...no cops in attendance ANYWHERE on the site! LOL!
Although lakes were nearby, water temps were still chilly due to low nightime temps....bathing suits were optional also, always were.

I like your "Ride-In Movie Night" idea....there are a number of drive-ins near me back home now (Lower Catskill Region).
Seems a "movie-night" is in order soon....something to get started on for sure.
Thanks for sharing that...hope your summer is a blast!

Jean Shepherd Summed It All Up

...in an NPR Radio "appearance".

"Before Garrison Keillor and Spalding Gray there was Jean Shepherd..."
I submit to you:
"... April 28 1983 - Summer's Coming: Don't Blow it This Year"

Enjoy!

Although I will be busy...

....catching up with projects left unattended and not yet completed, I will be conspiring to get-away-from-it-all.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.....

....see what I mean?

It's been a rough winter...especially for myself.
Just got a call to ride with some good old friends to the "HARLEY RENDEZVOUZ"...Hope to see ya!!

My entire town used to be like that for 3 months at a time

sadly, about 20 years ago they decided they needed more government and Incorporated it and it's been going downhill ever since. There's a few die hard hold outs though that still whoop it up every year though. This is what real freedom looks like, and it scares most people. :(
