Solar Roadways: At the White House!

We were sworn to secrecy until now, but Solar Roadways was invited to the first ever Maker Faire hosted by the White House. The event will feature Makers, innovators, and entrepreneurs of all ages who are using cutting-edge tools to bring their ideas to life. We we're honored to be chosen. Off to the White House now! Will report back tonight.

Complete lunacy

I'm in the solar industry out in Hawaii. This idea is absurd. It would cost the entire gdp of the planet 10 times over. They are using microinverters for EACH panel. That is so inefficient and expensive. Not to mention all the other nonsense.

No train to Stockholm.

On the surface...

The surface. Where the rubber meets the road.
I need more info on the material and design of the surface.

It appears to be fairly smooth even with the traction topography of the surface.
Almost glass like.

I'm thinking oil and water do not mix.
Roadways are covered in leaking lubrication oils and coolants from cars.
Then it rains.
Slippery When Wet?

Asphalt and concrete roadways are subject to this hazard.
Modern tire tread design attempts to mitigate the effect.
The smoother the surface, the greater the hazard.
Water alone sheeting the roadway is dangerous even with a new, oil free surface.

Other than that, I think it's super cool.
I seen it on Indiegogo a few weeks back.
I like the solar collection aspect to be sure.
Why not veneer the south side of other structures with it?

I can see it being rolled out at large amusement parks.
I would be conducive and a good proving ground.
On public roadways...I dunno.
Software/hardware/malware/cyber attack/power loss, etc.,

Ability to arbitrarily route free travel...corralling if you will...
And the eventual leasing of ad space, intersections at a premium of course.

I'd like to see this rolled out in the private sector such as amusement parks,
and see where it goes from there.

And I'd like to know more details on that pesky surface!

How about

Grooved surface.
We do it with concrete and asphalt in notoriously slippery areas.
And we do it after the material is in position.
With these super strong glass panels we can groove the surface in the factory.
There is some crazy stuff out there. Even miraculous like nano-paint

Groovy Baby!

Hey 'Cuda!

The grooving of asphalt definitly helps.
I've seen it done across the country.
The solar road surface would have to be etched?
With grooving in high hazard stretches?

You may be on to something here.
Now, if we can figure out how to stem the tide...
Of the no doubt still legendary...
Pittsburgh Potholes!

Growing up in Pittsburgh will give one excellent driving skills!
Route 51 was like a slalom for vehicles! Vroom! Zoom!

The product as is, would be fine for Disney.
Mutifunctioning as routing, announcements, advertisement.
I can see it been both fun and functional in that setting.
Emergency instructions/routes, lost child, etc., very useful.

Nano! I love nano!
Give me a tiny little nano tube!
Dura-Lube everything!
No. Really. It's awesomeness in a bottle!

'Cuda. Yinz ar making me homesick an 'at.
I need chipped ham from Isleys and Jumbo from Gian' 'Iggle.
I want to red up my room and get some gum bands!
First they tore down Forbes Field.
Then the Nixon Theatre.
They barged into Market Square with their shiny towers.
Then they tore town Jenkins Arcade. Where I spent much of my youth shining shoes, watching the whole glorious maelstrom of the busy city spin around me in a surrealistic ballet. I can still hear the soundtrack.
When I think of coming home, I wonder; what is left...for me? What is left of my precious Dahntahn...
Ah, who am I kidding. Pittsburgh is still the most beautiful city in the country!

The Burgh is like a high price whore.

The wife and I went up air last Saturday for an autocross.
BMW put on for some of their customers.
They let you take any model and run it through the autocross circuit. Then you took it out on the road through a circuit in the city. It was first class. Breakfast, lunch, logo mugs, all on BMW's dime.

The weather was perfect. Warm, sunny, clean. We had a ball. They had it at High Mark stadium parking lot. Right on the river near Station Square.

Then we looked at some hahses for sale up on Mt. Washington.

Just had a fun, relaxing day in the city.

But when you turn on the news and see the daily bloodshed, the robberies, the cruelty between people... It just makes you think twice about putting yourself at the mercy of crooked thieving politicians and cops. The police state mentality.

I fantasize about reverse jacking the shoot em up boyz.

So yes Pittsburgh is special, but I don't know if I could take it everyday.

I like living in "Gun Town", and Worshington County. It's about half ahr sahth from Pittsburgh. Low taxes n' at. We just got a Fiori's Pizza opened up. And a Franco's too. The Gian' Iggle is jus up aire bot a mile n' half. We got the best casino in the state 4 mile from the hahs. Meadows Racetrack and Casino. The Harley dealer too. And the BMW dealer is half mile from the haas.

Life is good in Gun Town (Cansburg)

What a great Saturday!

I'll be sure to let you know when I come to visit!
I'll buy yinz an Arn City Beer an at!

All the best to you and yours!

Typical solar scam...

did you watch the video? it is more pie in the sky than practical applications. Reminds me of the Jetsons and how they saw the future. Good for spending money and getting government grants though.. ugh

Solar Freaking Roadways

I loved the video, even if the presentation is a bit "in your face".

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

I like the idea. Probably not

I like the idea. Probably not ideal for every road, but would be great in some areas.
