Paul Ryan SMASH - Ryan to IRS Commissioner: 'I don't believe you'

June 20, 2014 10:34 am

Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) lit into IRS Commissioner John Koskinen over the missing Lois Lerner emails at a Friday House Ways and Means Committee hearing, flatly telling him he didn’t believe his excuse for them being gone.

The emails of Lerner, the former tax-exemption chief at the center of the investigation into IRS targeting of conservative groups, were reported lost in a “hard drive crash,” an explanation which Koskinen said was on the line.

“I’m sitting here, listening to this testimony, I don’t believe it,” Ryan said. “That’s your problem. Nobody believes you. The Internal Revenue Service comes to us a couple years ago and misleads us and tells us no targeting is occurring. Then it said it was a few rogue agents in Cincinnati. Then it said it was also on progressives. All of those things have been proven untrue.”

Ryan called Koskinen’s explanation for the loss of the emails “unbelievable.”

“You are the Internal Revenue Service,” he said. “You can reach into the lives of hard-working taxpayers and with a phone call, an e-mail or a letter you can turn their lives upside down. You ask taxpayers to hand onto seven years of their personal tax information in case they are ever audited and you can’t keep six months worth of employee e-mails? And now that we are seeing this investigation, you don’t have the e-mails, hard drives crashed. You learned about this months ago. You just told us, and we had to ask you on Monday.”

Good. It's about time some

Good. It's about time some of these "servants" get some balls. Call these liars exactly what they are LIARS !!!

Beware the cult of "government"...

Ryan vs the IRS ?.....

I'll pick the IRS goon over Ryan. This is just political theater. They are smiling at each other like the rehearsed it in the privy.

Send that hard drive to

Snowden in Russia, Maybe he has the expertise to extract the emails, so we can see the (emails) truth.
When the truth is hidden, there can be no real justice.

What really needs to happen

at the next congressional hearing for the next tyrant in line is that a gallows needs to be erected right in the hearing room. Just have it sitting there in the background the whole time.Every once in a while when the tyrant is telling some ridiculous lie, give the rope a gentle swing.

is anyone in prison yet ? Nope, didn't think so. I wonder what the next scene of the play will bring.

More talk, no action

"I don't believe you, but I'm not going to do anything about it. I'm just going to get real mad so my constituents believe I'm angry for them and they will keep me in office"

This is what all establishment hacks actually say, if you translate it into politicanese.

Ryan almost said ...after a long train of abuses...

I guess he caught himself and didn't want people to think that "tyranny was lurking just around the corner". Don't forget..we must "reject" these voices. lol

He did that so he would not be " EricCantored'.

It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people that pay no price for being wrong.

A pat on the back for doing nothing - nope not gonna happen

ooooo - he called him a liar. I am sure I guy that is committing a felony in covering up another felony really cares that he is called a liar. I am sure he is looking in the mirror right now questioning his morals and values - or not.

This is the problem today - some GOP hack goes and "calls him out" and all the conservatives act like they won something.

Only the people losing get excited over calling the winners names - the winners don't care - well - because they won. Obama is winning - so call him and Lerner and everyone else all the names you want. Meanwhile they are kicking liberties ass and the rule of laws teeth in .

Paul Ryan On The Record

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

Man you people are harsh...

Give Ryan at least a little props. I could care less if it is Ryan or some other crook. Thank you Ryan for having balls this once and, at the least, calling a treasonous lying crook a treasonous lying crook.

A grain of rice can tip the scale. Who cares if all he does is call them out, that's something. Am I saying it's enough? Or justifies anything he (Ryan) might have done (or not done)? NO! I'm just saying it's something. People can't just keep bashing. Negative reinforcements only go so far. Reward the good behavior. Give him a pat on the back. Hold some more feet to the fire Ryan!

I LOL'd at:
Whoever off screen: Will you let the man answer the question.
Ryan: I didn't ask a question!

If ignorance is bliss, Washington DC must be heaven.

Calling him out is the first step...

I'll give him an "atta boy." Now, I want him to lead Republicans to follow through with a special prosecutor. I also want the Republicans to change our tax system that will limit the IRS to collection of taxes through businesses, ie. Flat or Fair Tax as a first step toward collecting taxes through tariffs only.

If we start heavily taxing imports, jobs will return from overseas.

Now, if Ryan does that, I'll believe he's appalled.

Ryan was in office when Republicans had control of both houses with the presidency and they gave us Medicare Part D, expanded the DoE, DEA, allowed a steady flow of illegals, increased our debt, championed corporations over individuals, allowed the housing bubble with bailouts and lead us into a war that we can never win without paying a price the majority don't want to pay.

He has a lot more to do than callout the Commish of the IRS in a hearing.

Also, Ryan was a willing participant in the way Ron Paul and his supporters were treated at the RNC.

"Atta boy, Ryan, you told him." Now what?

Too many here agree with George W. Bush:

"You are either with us, or you are against us." And since Ryan is not a Libertarian, anything he says must be decried.

Ideological purity is personal. If you want to restore freedom, you find common ground and build coalitions. Holding grudges because of differences removes opportunities for good. Maybe Ryan is a terrible person with ties to the Mob for all I know, but if he challenges the IRS, on that one issue at least I can support him.

"Sometimes it is said that man cannot be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then, be trusted with the government of others? Or have we found angels in the forms of kings to govern him?" -Thomas Jefferson

That's odd, one lying rat calling the other rat a liar.

Eff Ryan and his war-mongering too.

A classic example of the pot calling the kettle black.

What prosecutor would take up

What prosecutor would take up the case? What court could be impartial? There is no Justice in this land, there is only Just-Us.
It's a big club, and you and I are not in it.

"The United States can pay any debt it has because we can always print money to do that." — Alan Greenspan

Typical GOP idiocracy in full effect - just a show boat

Instead of insinuating he is lying - why not just have a staffer mozy on over to the IRS building, get a copy of the IT Department's disaster recovery policy(which is required by law), review such policy and then you dont have to insinuate he is lying - you can have him brought up on charges before his ass even leaves the seat.
Then you make it known that EVERY IT staff member is getting called before Congress and ANYBODY caught lying is going to prison. I don't give a rats ass how many you have to call.

That's how big boys play - they dont stomp their feet and call people liars - they beat them at their own game

And where is John the monkey humping a football Boehner at. Why has he not started impeachment proceeding against this guy, the Director of IT, the Director of IT's next 8 people in line, those people's subordinates and on and on.

The "hard drive" crash explanation is sooooo ridiculous it would be funny if not for the fact that the GOP is just falling for it. Like Lerner's emails are on her harddrive - what - they don't use Exchange servers at the IRS, they dont have disaster recovery plans, offsite backups, archives.

Hey - someone call Barracuda Networks - I have a great lead for them - LOL!!!

They hunt ducks like Cheney

If they really were serious they would have established the IT evidence chain first so they really had the target in their sights.

I'll take my Liberty, it's not yours to give.

And that is why you call the entire IT staff to testify

you can still establish the chain of evidence.

And what's really sad is all this show boating portrays an image of credibility in the sheeple minds. They will say, "Did you see Ryan attack the IRS Commissioner in that hearing?! He is the real deal! A man of the people! One of us!"

A mouth

with no teeth.

Fuck Paul Ryan and his theatrics. He doesn't give two shits about the American tax payer and that is well established:

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

This is a little easier

to gloss over:

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

Big Hat - No Cattle

The GOP is great at making noise. They can solve this immediately by passing one of the several available bills that would eliminate the IRS. Try to get Ryan to talk about that. Let's see him cut the IRS 100% out of the budget instead of proposing a meaningless 3% cut.

Also, it seems that they have enough stonewalling to indict. They do not need a special prosecutor. They can hire top notch prosecutors to advise the Congressional staff. The special prosecutor can be hired after the little guys are in jail. Then he can offer the little guys freedom in return for higher level prosecutions.

In any case, whatever they do, there has to be some substance and less empty noise.

So what are you going to do about it Ryan?

My guess is nothing. Also, Ryan should consult with an IT professional before he gets up there and grandstands. He should ask him about their disaster recovery strategy. If he does not know then subpoena the IRS CIO. I have been in IT for 20 years and I would bet a year's salary the IRS has disaster recovery strategy. Every large organization does. It is likely all data is backed up to tape and moved offsite every morning/night. There is an entire industry that caters to this and it would be the highest level of incompetence if the IRS does not have the most advanced DR strategy out there. If the emails are not on tape off site somewhere then the only conclusion you can draw is that they were intentionally deleted. So, if that is the case - what are you going to do about it Ryan? Nothing - again, I'd bet a year's salary they will do nothing. I hope I am wrong.

This of course calls into question their entire organization,

as if it needed that already. But if the IRS asks you for your records and you cannot produce them, are you not penalized? Do they not assume that you are lying? How can it be that they can keep records of hundreds of millions of taxpayers without losing them, and as soon as somebody puts them on the spot for one particular set of data, they have miraculously lost it? And in a "hard drive crash?" Puuuhhhleeezzz! Even my stinkin' home computer doesn't lose anything if the hard drive crashes. For $60 you can buy Acronis True Image and back it all up automatically. Or, barring that, Windows has its own built-in backup program. This testimony is just beyond preposterous, and a complete lie, but I'm betting that you hit the nail on the head that nothing will come of it.

Ammo For Persecuted Subjects

It seems to me that a smart defense lawyer, somewhere, should be able to use this IRS fraud as an example of why their records have no reliability as evidence for prosecution.
