Barack Obama Issues Another Executive Order: Gay Partners To Be Buried In Vet Cemeteries

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A year after the Supreme Court struck down a law barring federal recognition of gay marriages, the Obama administration granted an array of new benefits Friday to same-sex couples, including those who live in states where gay marriage is against the law.

The new measures range from Social Security and veterans benefits to work leave for caring for sick spouses. They are part of President Barack Obama's efforts to expand whatever protections he can offer to gays and lesbians even though more than half of the states don't recognize gay marriage. That effort has been confounded by laws that say some benefits should be conferred only to couples whose marriages are recognized by the states where they live, rather than the states where they were married.

Gay marriage is all about benefits, not love

If the government wasn't handing out benefits to married couples, there would be no push for government sanctioned marriages.

I contend that there is much that same-sex couples can do to assure they have legal rights to make health, childcare, and inheritance decisions for each other by visiting a lawyer and drawing up power-of-attorney, custody, and inheritance agreements. A lot of the interpersonal 'rights' straight married couples take for granted can be secured privately without government sanctioned marriage.

But government granted benefits changes everything. If the government is handing out money or favors to couples, it has to define who is and is not a couple. The busybodies love that one because there is always somebody who knows better how the rest of us should live. Of course, they say, white an black should not marry. And cousins can't marry. The couple must be healthy, so no marriage for you without a blood test. You must be 18...or 16...maybe 14 or 12... You can't marry more than one person, and you can't unmarry and remarry without following specific and expensive rules.

We could eliminate much of the contention around 'marriage' if people were not so intent on getting free stuff, and if the government wasn't allowed to give free stuff (redistribute wealth). Then it really wouldn't matter if my neighbor married his Labrador Retriever, or six women, or another guy. If it costs me nothing, then it is none of my business.

So I don't want to debate who should or should not be eligible for Social Security benefits, or a plot in a government cemetery. I want to get rid of the corrupting influence of government largess. The rest will take care of itself.

I just hope this

doesn't turn any of the other straight dead vets gay.

I'd rather have a bottle in front o' me than a frontal lobotomy

All I can say is I would

All I can say is I would never thought that up in a million years.
