Double toilets

Only few months ago Russian Olympic city Sochi was ridiculed for double toilet. Here is one of the links.

Some of the wittiest commentators were cracking jokes and calling them as a concession for the world community from Mr Putin for some of the earlier funny comments regarding gays in Russia.

I have found a grandparent of such double toilet. Surprise, surprise this double toilet has been invented in the United States, in New Jersey.

If you check the craigslist link, please vote the "best of".

We deserve a credit, we need to show those russkies, that it is the United States that are the cradle of inventions and the powerhouse of creativity.

For some reason...

I have seen that toilet before.

Oh, one more thing about the second seat

It gives the flies a more convenient place to go in and out than around your skinny butt.

Yeah I remember those

I'd think the utility of the two seater design is kinda obvious: outhouses were shared conveniences. Not like the master bedroom came with it's own. Plus in times of dire physical extremity, you could sit on one and puke down the other.

TMI?

People started easing the seat edges pretty early on, splinters were a complaint if you didn't. Windows were popular as you had to leave the door open to see what you were doing without them. Window screens were rapidly adopted as a countermeasure to flies and the dumping or sawdust, lime or fireplace ash could kinda help with that.

Grabbing toilet seats and retrofitting them to outhouse use was just a matter of convenience and common sense. I've seen that all over. That's in the same league as pneumatic tires on horse drawn carriages. Some technologies go backwards quite handily. But outhouse seats had doors over them for ages. They do help.

I note this model has a vent stack! That represents a level of technology unheard of in my past. We see that in contemporary designs. That's one thing the National Park Service did for us: they have taken the outhouse design to the next level with self-ventilating composting potty houses. Get a heated seat in there for winter use and we might just start using them again.

There is nothing strange about having a bar of soap in your right pocket, it's just what's happening.

Outhouses were still in use

when I was a kid and I don't recall any of them not being two-seaters.

Usually no more than one of the holes had an actual seat. Maybe it's because by the time you dig a hole that big and build a building, it would seem wasteful not to cut a second hole in the board for emergencies or being able to look down and assure yourself there are no snakes or mean roosters.

Yup.

Especially in many areas of Alaska...nice houses with no indoor plumbing.

Sorry...me likes my indoor plumbing.

My great-grandma

had a hard time with the idea of going to the bathroom in the house. She thought that was gross. She finally had to give in to the convenience of it when she broke her arm at 96 years old.

Is further comment necessary?

Is there a noose on that top

Is there a noose on that top floor. Since we're already being shit upon, we may as well get something out of the deal.

I'm game, anyone want to

I'm game, anyone want to saddle up next to me? We can discuss whether Rand Paul is a brilliant political tactician or if he has been co-opted.

Maybe Bill3 wants to share a roll of TP with me and debate whether or not anarchy is a viable way to organize a society (or not organize a society).

My personal favorite though, would be a rousing back and forth about whether or not God exists.

I promise to courtesy flush, my being such a refined gentleman and all.
