What % Of Americans Do Not Know The Popular Vote For POTUS Is A Charade?

I've watched the thread regarding 26% of Americans who don't know the Earth revolves around the sun with some bemusement.

Seems there's 3 main responses to this factoid:

1. Stop being a judgmental creep and try being nice to people.

2. How do we know the factual assertion is correct besides being told that this is so?

3. 26% is pretty LOW considering what we know about our corn-fed, inbred, brain-dead culture.

The question was easily mired in secondary considerations. But what % of US citizens know that the popular election for President Of The United States is NOT the process by which we select one, that is was NEVER meant to be the method and the actual method is selection by a small group of persons called electors? And this is constitutionally mandated?

Seems a pretty good alternative question if one accepts it's scaling down. Our disposition regarding the sun is solar-systemic in scale but the POTUS is the the gravitational center of political life on this planet.

I'm pretty sure that there is already

a movement under way at the State level to have state legislatures change their election law to mandate their delegates, by law to cast their votes for the winner of the popular vote regardless if it is not the same candidate that won their state election. I'm pretty sure that NY is one of the states that made this change. In other words, candidate X could have won the State of NY but if candidate A wins the national popular vote, NY's delegates would be bound by State law to elect candidate A at the convention.

It's Who Counts The Votes That Matter...

I believe it was Joseph Stalin who said that..

That is worthy of something.

Actually current election laws

make it far less separated than you seem to be claiming, and lamentable far less than it should be. It is a brilliant system conceptually though.

Well written article including by Lew Rockwell author and blogger William Norman Grigg, including comments from Ron Paul.

The question was asked in some obtuse way and the conclusion that they reached in the survey doesn't reflect the actual responses.

That's tricky - depends on the definition of "charade"

If you are saying that every election is rigged and no votes are counted, I might disagree. It is rigged in the sense that, in my opinion, the votes in "key" states is manipulated. I think there are many small-population areas where every vote is counted. And, I have no doubt that if the votes did not come out in some state the way they predict then it would be "fixed" somehow, but that is all opinion.

I would absolutely agree that the primary, the sheeple being manipulated by the press, and the false and unimportant issues discussed is what makes it a complete charade.

So, to your question.

I would say at least 90%. That even includes, unfortunately, some people here at Daily Paul (especially those that voted for Romney)

"In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."--Mark Twain

I think the op means it in the sense of how many people know the

electoral college elects the president and not the general citizenry.

Am I close smudge?

Very few people I imagine.

Indeed, the charade is the vote

It doesn't matter if they are counted or not. It doesn't matter if the votes are flipped. The popular vote has never determined who is president, it doesn't have any effect on who is president, not even a little bit and it never once has.
