Peanut Butter Cookies with Chocolate Kiss

My cousins (age 7 & 9) want to make Peanut Butter Coolies with Chocolate Kisses. They saw the recipe in Ron Paul Family Cookbook. The recipe calls for the cookies to be baked for 8 minutes at 375 then put the chocolate kisses on the cookies and bake for another 5 minutes. My worry is the chocolate is going to completely melt. Has anyone tried the recipe? I usually have good luck with the Paul's cookbook but this time I'm not sure.

I've been making them since I was a kid

I use those mini muffin pans and bake the peanut butter portions (which have been rolled in sugar) for 8 minutes, take out the cookies and add the kisses, put back in the oven for one minute. I've never made the flat versions straight on a cookie sheet but assume you'd add the kiss in the same manner.

Warm Chocolate Kisses

I make these cookies at Christmas time. I've never used the recipe from the Paul's but I don't reheat the cookies after I press the kiss into the top. The kisses get soft from the heat of the cookies. They are yummy! They never last long around my house!

Haven't made them myself...

But I'd assume the kisses are intended to melt and spread over the top of the cookies as an icing....just a thought.

I've seen cookies with a

I've seen cookies with a Hershey Kiss pressed on to the top. I assumed these were the same. But I could be wrong.

I've seen those as well...

One can press a kiss on the top of a warm cookie for looks and taste - but if you put them in the oven afterwards for 5 min...they will melt.
Probably a choice of what form you'd like the chocolate but again, I haven't made them. You could try a batch and do half and half -
I'd eat both.
