Facts All US Citizens Need to Know About Israel and Palestine

Facts All US Citizens Need to Know About Israel and Palestine

Gaza (along with the West Bank and East Jerusalem) is occupied Palestinian territory under international law, determined by the vast majority of the world, as well as the highest court in the world, the UN’s International Court of Justice. Gaza cannot commit aggression against Israel, since Israel is in constant and continual commission of illegal aggression against Palestine by occupying it (illegally and sadistically blockading it and frequently committing terrorism against its civilians, including by targeting them with chemical weapons provided by US taxpayers – see “Rain of Fire” by Human Rights Watch). As documented by Amnesty Int’l, Human Rights Watch, and many others, Israel intentionally targets and murders civilians, including children, en masse.

Israel also kidnaps and tortures children, including by keeping them in outdoor cages, over night, in winter.

In the history of all rocket and mortar fire into Israel, 28 people, total, have been killed. see: How Many People have Died from Gaza Rockets into Israel? http://www.globalresearch.ca/how-many-people-have-died-from-...

Since the year 2000 Israel has killed 1,500 Palestinian children and the number rises daily.

But, even ignoring international law and that Gaza is under illegal Israeli occupation, Gaza did not initiate this current round of violence; Israel did. (see timeline in article link)

Israeli settlement building in Palestine is a war crime under international law.

Palestinians have the right under international law to resist occupation, ethnic cleansing, colonization, aggression, and annexation.

Hamas is the government elected by Gaza in elections that Jimmy Carter (and many others) observed and said were completely fair and free. Israel constantly says Hamas uses human shields. But in Israel’s biggest massacre of Gaza, the one in 2009, all the human rights organizations, including Amnesty, HRW, and the jurist Richard Goldstone, found that Hamas DID NOT use human shields. On the contrary, Israel used human shields, which is a regular practice for Israel. Israel uses civilians as human shields.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Thanks for pointing this out. I bring it up all the time with Israeli apologists, and they don't know how to respond. Indeed, the PA has brought violent resistance down to virtually nothing, and yet Israel has only expanded its Jewish only settlements. As much as I dislike the Islamic extremism of Hamas, it is correct to reject the Zionist enterprise and exercises its right to resistance occupation.

Another thing I find odd is that so many Israeli apologists seem so un self conscious. Do they not realize that Israel has never recognized Palestine? So how can they reject Hamas for not recognizing Israel's right to exist?

Do you know the correct ................

statutory definition of a "US Citizen"? .... If so why do you wish to be one? It is best to be extremely careful when you use this term. There is good reason why officers/employees/agents of the state use these specific words when asking about your status. If you do not know it is best then that you take the time to study the law regarding citizenship.

I know this is not the subject of your post, but I raised it as you made a point of using it.

My 'take' on this issue

Rights are like muscles; you must exercise them to keep them fit, or they will atrophy and die.

The saying is that the

The saying is that the Israelis use their missiles to defend their citizens. The Palestinians use their citizens to defend their missiles.

To me, that is the issue. There is no question that if the Palestinians had their way, every Jew in Israel, if not every Jew in the world, would be dead. They just do not have the ability to do that.

Israel has had the power to easily wipe out all their opposition. Yet they don't.

While we can all feel sorry for any Palestinian child or person who is a victim of these attacks..whose fault is it really? Hamas is the instigator in this conflict, no?

In regards to Palestinians talking about their rights, etc...look, I feel for them. But your rights only exist to the point at which you can defend them. Clearly, you haven't, and currently are not, able to defend your right to your land. Just because you think you have some moral or philosophical claim to a land means NOTHING...philosophy does not stop an enemy from taking that land.

Do you want the other countries to do the work for you? Because that is never going to be a permanent solution...and of course, the way Palestine has handled all kind of diplomacy in the past 20+ years, are they at all surprised that they have no allies amongst the major powers?

We'll said but

One thing that bothers me is that Israel has destroyed any secular groups in gaza using radicals like Hamas , allowing them to bomb Israel and not be destroyed completely , Israelis would tell me they allow Hamas to exist to avoid any even more extreme groups like al-CIA-da from taking over , I don't buy it, Hamas is radical enough to be destroyed ,how do you allow any group to shoot rockets at your people without destroying them if you have the capability , I believe the Israeli government needs Hamas , so to keep the right amount of controlled tension.

The truth will set you free

In order to attempt to deceive others, you must first deceive yourself. You are so obviously invested in the lies that even if you began to see the truth you will still stick to the prescribed narrative.

If Wars Can Be Started by Lies, They Can Be Stopped By Truth.

What's the logic in this?

Little Wing. The statement above is:

"In the history of all rocket and mortar fire into Israel, 26 people, total, have been killed.

Since the year 2000 Israel has killed 1,500 Palestinian children and the number rises daily.

----------

I suspect you believe this. Tell me why the Palestinians are sacrificing their own children like this?

LittleWing's picture

I suspect you are in complete denial

and you are attempting to 'blame the victims' in this massacre and I find it rather vulgar considering over 100 children killed in this latest aggression. Goebbels would be proud.

If you open the link to the article you will see it is a list of facts you will not commonly see from MSM.

If Wars Can Be Started by Lies, They Can Be Stopped By Truth.

Launching rockets with a 60 to 1 fatality ratio is stupid.

You are obviously misdirecting and . There is not one whit of evidence in my statement that I'm blaming victims.

I'm of the opinion that those Palestinians using rockets for political gain is stupid, ineffective and they should try something else.

You have obviously lost your objectivity.

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty" TJ

Don't get sucked into a battle you have no control over

Why must we be armchair warriors. This is crap that is happening thousands of miles away that should have nothing to do with us. I think we can all agree that governments only understand force and profit from war. People don't start wars. Governments do.

Governments excel at pitting people against each other. Organized religion does a pretty good job of this as well.

Maybe I'm being idealistic, but I wonder how different this picture would look if all the people here were voluntaryist, not organized by religion (just individually spiritual). What if people lived by respecting contracts and respecting common law and individual rights and living by the Non-Agression Principle. Conflicts were settled locally with private groups. No crimes against the state.

As John Lennon said... "Imagine there's no countries... It isn't hard to do... Nothing to kill or die for... And no religion too..."

"We" musn't. But it's a sounding board for anti-semites.

This is their perfect opportunity for spreading their hatred in lame attempts of couching it in feigned "care" about the Palestinians.

As I have previously stated, there are definitely legitimate criticisms of Israel and there are some principled people on the DP making principled criticisms.

However, the anti-Israel majority on this thread are not them. They are "88"s, and their approach to couching their hatred for Jews in a feigned "care" for the Palestinians is described here:

Another excellent post! Thank you for helping to get the

truth out to this community.

Yeah right... another totally one-sided post from a usual HIFer

...Of course it all a bunch of anti-Israel "Facts", more like opinionated spin, and misinformation...

But whatever, keep up your propaganda fest, only every-other thread popping up is an anti-Israel thread, completely one-sided and biased.

Just keep repeating those lies guys. Keep repeating and they will become the truth. Or so goes the theory. Either that or people who want to read objective news stories will simply get tired of it, and ignore your constant desperate propaganda. That must be why it's the same old HIFers talking to each other like talking to the walls, over and over.

Perhaps I am more 'Pro-Israel' than you, Mr.Jed

BTW > I am highly critical of my own governments policies but that does not make me 'Anti-American'!
I agree with this Israeli writer as to what Pro-Israel SHOULD mean:

The term ‘pro-Israel’ should mean anti-occupation, support for human rights, equality, democracy for all peoples under Israel’s control – not hard-line Zionism.

The words “pro-Israel” mean simply to be supportive, or “for” Israel. Yet the term has been hijacked by a portion of Jews (including and perhaps primarily non-Israelis) who have anointed themselves defenders of the faith; they have unilaterally set the gold standard for everyone else in determining what supporting Israel means.

The meaning of pro-Israel, in the eyes of those Jewish-American organizations who often refer to themselves this way, is twofold: first, it involves being apologists for every policy of every Israeli government, and second, it is a permanent mission to prove that Palestinians are 1. Bloodthirsty, 2. Primitive and unready for peace or democracy – essentially, inferior 3. Sinister, all-powerful manipulators of global media, minds and public discourse 4. Politically incompetent. 5. Islamic jihadis, every last one. The camp that calls itself “pro-Israel” has added a third cause du jour of late – broad insistence on a maximalist, warmongering position vis-à-vis Iran.

So-called pro-Israel types are not only saying that these two/three are the best and only ways to support Israel. They are also saying that anyone who thinks differently is against Israel. Such a person who is also unfortunately Jewish or Israeli may be branded no less than a traitor, self-hater, lunatic, idiot or worse. The Israeli mainstream press has adopted the wrong definition wholesale.

Here is what permanent apologists for all Israeli government policies and demonizers of Palestinians actually accomplish. They perpetuate conflict, by supporting Israeli government policies that perpetuate the conflict, and they command that Israel’s greatest enabler, the U.S.A., do so too. They scream down criticism in a most hysterical and undemocratic way that is antithetical to both American and Jewish traditions. They employ and entrench shameless racist stereotypes that ought to make “never again” crusaders shiver, although many won’t.

Put simply, those who embrace the term “pro-Israel” support the occupation of over four million Palestinians who live permanently under military law or as refugees, while Israeli Jews living next to them walk free.

How this behavior supports the country of Israel or the People of Israel is a moot question. It does not. It maintains the policies that maintain the conflict; that’s about as anti-Israel as you can get.
http://972mag.com/i-am-pro-israel-too-reflections-on-972s-us...

There are thousands of Israeli Jews that are speaking out and protest against the brutal illegal occupation and Israels current policies. I respect them for bravely and honestly criticizing their government. To me, they are the Israelis that are truly pro Israel.

'If Israel ends its status as a consistent violator of human rights, decolonizes Palestine, and respects its neighbors, it could be a pleasure – and legal – to work with and support Israel.

Germany, Japan, and South Africa went from being the most reviled countries on Earth to being some of the most admired. Maybe Israel could undergo the same transformation, but not unless we, US citizens, help by ceasing to enable Israeli terrorism and war crimes by illegally supporting them.'

Would you have the time to point me to a good article

or documentary that explains what you think is really going on over there? I'm interested in your perspective as a libertarian, Christian Jew. I was raised to think today's Israel was a holy nation, but now I'm seeing this other side--it's kinda like when I realized America wasn't what I thought it was. However, I know that Palestine would be killing just like Israel if they had the resources. thanks in advance

Yawn!

Facts:

1) Palestinians and arab/muslim people repeatedly have declared war against israel and attacked israel.

2) Israel is legally occupying these areas since they have been forced by war to move into these lands to defend themselves.

3) Israel has given this land over to the palestinians to police with the agreement that if the palestinians could maintain order and live peacefully with israel, israel would leave them alone.

4) Palestinians have failed to maintain peace and have openly attacked israel and sheltered those who attack israel.

The UN recognizing a state that cannot maintain order in its own borders is a political act and has no value. It almost guarantees that its neighbors will be forced to invade it out of self defense.

This is a problem only the palestinians can solve - until the palestinians can maintain peace, they will not have peace.

Down vote the truth!

Hurry - you can't let the truth stand, down vote it now.

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

Claim racism to hide the truth

It is a fact.

It is not derogatory.

Just because you don't like the truth, you resort to name calling.

I didn't hide anything, I revealed racism by you against arabs

and muslims. There is no Palestinian military so who is Israel defending against? If they're terrorists how come you don't apply American law and call for public commissions, investigations, prosecutions, and trials?

I resorted only to explaining my view regarding justice, then you resorted to reaffirming racism disregarding justice.

There must be no money for criminal justice left in the ole' jewish ottoman land trust... all of it was spent on war, deception, and settlements.

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

So pointing out who attacked israel is racist?

Funny how that works. Maybe you need to review history since the countries that attacked israel identified themselves specifically as arabs and muslim.

Also notice that you make references to jews even though israel has a significant muslim and christian population.

As to no palestinian military - they seem to fire a lot of rockets for having no military.

I don't support israel or the palestinians. Hamas has created the invasion by their actions - call it blow back. Sad they can't live peacefully side by side, but it's not my problem.
