Bill Maher on police brutality

He gets it right.

http://youtu.be/Bs9LNAI0nBc

Bill Maher used his closing monologue on the July 18 episode of "Real Time With Bill Maher" to take a jab at militarized police culture in America. He listed different small towns that use military-style tanks and "toys" in their police departments. "Once you start dressing and equipping people like an occupying army, they start acting like one," he said. "Every day there's another story in the paper about cops beating innocent people." He noted that police culture isn't just borrowing equipment and machinery from the army, but also a "philosophy of overwhelming force," citing the rise in SWAT team invasions and police brutality.

He's still a

despicable schmuck.

Let's see...we have a Democratic President and...

Attorney General...hmmm...a majority Democratic senate....oh! the Tea Party needs to do something. I got it now.

Hey Bill, change is a coming and their names are Rand and Ron Paul.

I AM upset about the MIC cops Mr. Maher.

Where have YOU been? Clearly not in tune with the Liberty Movement/Libertarians.

It's Gary Gnu!

No Gnews is good Gnews with Gary Gnu. I always thought he looked like him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAwVIZDAUF0

A lot of people running the Cop Block and other websites

are Libertarians. The original Tea Partiers.

How can one be his age and not ever heard of Doraville?

I guess he never listened to FM radio growing up.
Doraville a touch of country in the city. It ain't much but it's home.

Sigh

First off racist comments. I know he's racist already but to refer to a tea party conservative as "white" is not only inaccurate but also poor satire.

Secondly tea party that have been "complaining about this for years" well they still do - except it's more the libertarians. Fairly ignoramus comment. Ever heard of Ron Paul? Bill is supposedly an informed intellect? - bullshit.

Dude needs to get out. Start respecting people. Stop dividing the public like in the video. Maybe respect their opinions and agree with them instead of blaming them for "not doing enough".

Schmuck!

He gets his little group of fans and panders to them every night to make his mint. It's sad.

The Tea Party is fake, it doesn't exist

Stop pretending those herds of Republican sheeple are anything other than a media stunt.

"In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."--Mark Twain

As far as I'm aware Ron Paul

As far as I'm aware Ron Paul started the party.

It got taken over and turned into the Republican Party's bitch. I agree with you.

Don't know who voted you down though.

Are you a pirate? "R....."

Unfortunately you are incorrect. We had a very successful fundraiser celebrating the anniversary of the original Tea Party in '07 for the campaign.

But, what is known as the "Tea Party" was based on a pre-planned rant by Rick Santelli on Faux Business Channel. They already had the basic infrastructure and propaganda planned, and then Santelli did his little rant and they put their plan in motion. It was designed with multiple purposes, but one side-effect they enjoyed was associating Ron Paul with it, which made any common sense from the liberty movement immediately rejected by the sheeple through media manipulation.

I went to the first one in my area, it was basically mental masturbation for Republican sheeple and Rush Limbaugh listeners.

You gotta love this schmuck, eh?

He votes for the administration that's militarizing the police...and then blames the Republicans for not stopping them? Wow. A-hole.

C'mon, let's at least be honest

The militarization of the police began long before Obama was elected. Not to mention the police state apparatus was centered on 9/11. And, there is just more video activism now.

You sound like one of those astro-turf anti-Ron Paul Tea-o-cons.

I do???

Look at my screen name: LuvRonPaul. I'm not tea party either...not religious enough...lol. I was tea party back in 2007, in CA, but then it got co opted by the religious right soon thereafter, so I quit. I am simply straight libertarian, and I can't stand either party -- they are both corrupt.

The CURRENT administration has divvied up the returning light tanks and other military "toys" to the state/local law enforcement units. That was my point. And, yes, the current administration is way more responsible than Bush is for arming the local PD with toys of war. Fact. Deal with it.

I can't stand Bush...he is the reason we started down the slope of losing our rights. What a punk.

Calling me tea-names (is "bagger" next?) and blaming Bush for the current mess...makes you look like a dem, which I assume you're not. Take care to not alienate people you have waaaay more in common with, than not, based on a small comment on a public forum...

No offense meant

I didn't call you a name, I just commented, and I think rightly so, that what you wrote sounded like something a Teaocon would say. It was just very supportive of the false left/right paradigm.

But yes, it was too brief to get a full perception. I still think you can trace all of it to 9/11 - including the increased pace to the NWO and a world bank.

Right on, Mohusk!

I can't seem to post my reply... It won't let me, only allowing my first sentence to show. I'll keep trying...

ah nice I haven't seen tales from the crypt in years!

I was

at the live taping of this. I loved it. The rest of the show was basically communist though.

I don't like Bill

never have, never will. Same goes for Jon.

I heard him say

that without cops it would be like "The Purge" every night. Was he joking or does he really believe that? I didn't hear anyone laugh.

Yup

Yup the loser is that delusional he will believe fiction as a possible scenario.

You know when a major disaster happens and there are no cops within the first few hours - I only ever see human compassion, people helping one another and trying to rebuild.

I don't know how many times

I don't know how many times people have to be fooled before they learn.

Maher takes his cue directly from Machiavelli, just like his good buddy Chris Matthews. They both smell the fetid political winds shifting and are redirecting their efforts accordingly. I have nothing but contempt for people like them.

"The United States can pay any debt it has because we can always print money to do that." — Alan Greenspan

Funny

I don't hear anything from republicans, progressive republicans, liberals, progressive liberals, state legislatures or Mayors of cities across the United States talking about violence perpetrated on civilians by police officers.

Been my experience, it only matters if it happens to you. Keep the videos coming...

Bill Maher might be Turing around

This police state comment plus he criticized the fact that D's get away w surveillance whereas R's would be crucified. He is a smart guy (though sometimes smart people can be way off on things). Hopefully he's starting to wake up. We'll see. It would certainly be welcome if he did wake up. If he ever does, boy is he going to be shaking his head at donating that $1M to Obama.

I finally watched this video

(my post above - that I'm replying to right now - was a response to what I read in the text from the OP).

I didn't realize he called out the Tea Party in this video. I guess Maher is still a tool after all. Then again, maybe he thinks the Tea Party consists of Newt Gingrich types rather than Ron Paul. Ron Paul absolutely HAS called out the militarization of police.

I'll say it over and over

Tea Party?

Given the libertarian bent of the Tea Party, mixed with the still unaware fiscal conservatives focused on the money...I'd still say that the majority of those who would call themselves Tea Party adherents would still agree that the standing army in our midst is dangerous and wrong...and given my experience...they do agree. Where does he come off with this shit? Sometimes i'd just like to see his smug face get kicked in his whitened teeth...maybe someday he'll meet one of these black clad cops...

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

It is because the Tea-o-cons are fake libertarians

The Tea Partiers are nothing more than GOP stooges who are indeed directed away from real problems by their handlers. They are a PR stunt - and controlled opposition to give us actual libertarians a negative perception to the public.

It was all planned for a long time. Obvious to those of us who are awake.
