The Last Word on Rand

OK I will vote for him in the primaries and even the general if he makes it that far.
However I do not have that 08 - 12 spirit that I had with his father.
Dr Ron Paul to me is more then a man or a movement.
He is the idea of the true republic.
He is 1775
He is that time before the flint struck the powder at Lexington green
He is that street protest
He is the RevolUTION and we will not see another like him in this lifetime.

You Rand people need to understand that about us Ron People
He is not his father ...

I will give Rand my support but I can't forget 2008 and 2012
The history will repeat ... and It saddens me to dwell on it.

... I will comment on Rand no more forever.

Hear, hear!

Ive been pro-Rand for years even before he ran his senate, and I've been committed to helping him win the GOP primary.

But only a 50-50 chance I'd vote for him in a general election, and right now he's on the downslope.

My last word on Rand the son of Ron

NO

sovereign

Freedom and the Linux syndrome

What am I talking about you find yourself asking. Well, simply put, we all support freedom but we all have our different falvors or breaking points regarding this freedom much like the battle between Linux and the Microsoft desktop wars.

Long story short; Linux is a very secure, robust, modifiable, free, visually stunning piece of software that is far more capable than Windows ever could be. It even gives the user the ability to change it if there is a feature missing or one the user does not like. Did I mention its free? So, why does Linux lose and everybody pay hundreds of dollars for Windows? A fragmented community lies behind Linux while Microsoft has a marketing department that is second to none.

While my fellow geeks run around supporting the different flavors of Linux and espouse the virture of their flavor of choice Microsoft simply offers one version of Windows (that they hamper to sell different "versions") and then deploy sales staff that could sell a deep freezer to a north pole inhabitant. The support around a unified, single version OS allows Microsoft to win.

If the Linux community were to ever rally completely around one single flavor of Linus then Microsoft would be doomed. All of the little quirks that affect the FOSS movement would quickly and utterly be demolished and a pristine and sparkling OS would emerge. However, minor differences keep people from switching. Sometimes these differences are so minor you actually have to know what and where to look for them to even notice.

This is how we lose. The Republicans and Democrats are the Mircrosoft of the political world. It doesn't matter how vile the candidate is or how much their views oppose the voter's view they will still support the party candidate; period end of story. Several opposing factions instantly come together to form a super faction whose sole goal is to get their letter elected and their morals be damned.

Freedom lovers, however, are more like Linux users. They vote on the principles they absolutely believe in and thus fall. They do not fall because they are fewer but because they are fragmented. Much like a Linux user there can be no compromise. As admirable as this is this actually helps the Dems and Repubs secure nearly every major election.

However, if freedom lovers were ever willing to put their differences aside, figure out a way to find a candidate everybody supported, and get the organization the Dems and Repubs have to solely support this one, mutually acceptable (not perfect) candidate then we'd be a force to be reconed with. We may not win at first but we's most certainly start by making a large splash.

I'm not advocating that Rand is or isn't the best person for the job here. What I am advocating is that we will NEVER EVER find one person that makes everybody 100% or even 90% happy. We can, however, find a candidate that leads us in a net positive freedom direction. And though we may not get everything we want so long as our end result is a gain in freedom then we'll have won.

Remember this; our oponents almost never go for the strait up 100% screw us win. They take our freedoms little by little, day by day, chip by minute chip. If we're ever to get those back then we will have to learn to settle for smaller victories like our oponents. We can't win this war with a single shot. They know that. We just need to accept it.

Addendum

As a proof of point we have Dr. Ron Paul. Everybody loved Dr. Paul and threw their support behind him. As I said; he did not win but he made one hell of a splash. Were he a younger man I could actually have seen him winning the nomination and then the presidency within a few election cycles. Unfortunately for us he's well past his prime. Maybe we'll never see another Ron Paul in our lifetime but I'm sure we can find a candidate who we can compromise on. Either that or in 2016 we get to watch another election between Romney, Clinton, and other/write-in.

I agree except...

"You Rand people need to understand that about us Ron People
He is not his father ... "

Am I mistaken or are we all Ron people here?? I supported Ron in 08 and 12 and plan on supporting Rand in 16 (assuming he doesn't veer too close to neocons in the future). What does that make me?

Of coarse I agree that Ron would be a better option than Rand but that is not an option right now. I get what you are saying I just don't like the way it is worded; it seems demeaning in a way. Then again it is typed and we all know how that can skew the context.

proverbs 20:15
There is gold, and an abundance of jewels;
But the lips of knowledge are a more precious thing.

Not to mention

that for some reason typed words look a lot better than they are. Then you come back the next day and wonder what you were smoking and why you didn't buy a second ounce.

Great Post

I agree with you 100%. Rand will never be Ron and I think most of us understand that. I told my wife this morning, I've always been on board with Ron 100% but with Rand maybe only 95%. I'll take it. There will never be another Ron. I have more faith in Rand's policies, however, if Ron is alive to see them implemented should Rand become president.

Like I said, great post - you summed it up well.

I totally agree. I'll support Rand for sure but Ron was a very

...special candidate.

A true American statesman in the style of our founders.

I'll support Rand (like I did in his senate run), but I'll be about half as motivated by it all.

But I am looking forward to helping foment the coming civil war within the republican party.

That's no issue

If you stay in 2012 forever, that's fine. To act like we're not 'Ron people' because we like Rand also is lame. Hating Ron's son does not make you more 'Ron people' than the rest of us.

I commend any Last Word

I commend any Last Word effort to end a circular debate.

10-15 million more voters need to believe in non-interventionism (liberty) at home and abroad to change America. Minds changed on Syria. Minds changing on privacy. "Printing money" is part of the dialogue. Win minds through focus, strategy.

Ron Paul is.....

Rand is like Grover

Rand is like Grover Cleveland.

Ron is the truest Prophet in the last 2000 years.

Please be careful on your way to Canada. Rand will need live support. ;)

Anyone care to take bets??

Beware the cult of "government"...

Ron will always be the man.

I'm voting for him for the rest of my life. No one can take his place. Ever.

I do like Rand. I believe him to be wise as a serpent. Watch and see what happens. He knows the game far better than we do. And trust me, he was there in 08 and 12. He knows what he's up against. When he runs, i'll support him. And we'll have a money bomb that will shake the rafters of the GOP.

Get in the GOP NOW.

When did common sense become a super power?

"GOP NOW"

Is it a requirement to be in GOP in order to participate in said money bomb? I dont understand why you told everyone to "Get in GOP NOW".....

The reasoning is probably: a)

The reasoning is probably:

a) In many states you have to be a registered Republican to vote in a Republican primary. It's the only reason I registered republican (or to vote at all, for that matter... Ron Paul got me caring!).

b) If you want to be on committees or effect change in the *local* party when the elections roll around, you also would need to be a member.

However you would clearly not need to be a member to donate to a money bomb.

You have to do much more than

You have to do much more than vote in the primary. You must become a delegate at all levels. Primary votes are nothing but a glorified straw pole. The delegates hold the power of who gets the nomination.

AIPAC

I keep asking myself, how would this be going down if the Lobby Whose Name Must Not be Spoken were not part of this equation?

While I admire Ron immensely,

While I admire Ron immensely, it is the ideas that carry on. I have great respect for Rand. In many ways he is like his father.
However, there are some issues that I will not compromise on.

If Rand does not back down on some of his foreign policy views, I don't know that I could support him for a Presidential run. Anything that even hints of Neocon stink makes me run in the other direction.

Good thoughts

Ron is 1775 and Rand is 1975.

Rand is the best R but that is not saying much. Hope our kids can live in a system free of this 2-party nonsense.

Im a Ron person.......

And a Rand person. I like both flavors. The flavor of Liberty. ;-)
