Update: Daily Paul New Registration Stats, Final Tally + Account Upgrades

Update: I'll begin updating new member accounts from comment only privileges to full privileges today.

- - -

Last Thursday, Daily Paul registration was open for 24 hours.

We had a total of 483 new users who signed up! 217 were either spammers, never activated their accounts, or never made and introduction and thus had their accounts deactivated. Still, that is a net addition of 266 new users in one day. And it looks like we got some real quality people.

New users still have probationary, comment-only accounts. I will begin upgrading the accounts tomorrow to full privilege accounts.

Thank you everyone, and welcome aboard.

If you registered for an account, but did not make an introduction as requested, and have found that your account was deactivated, email me through the site contact form with the username and/ or email address you used to register and I'll reactivate the account for a day so you can make your intro.

That is a testament to all your hard work and creativity. I hope you are proud of that. And Yay for 266 new internet friends!

This seems like a good place

to express much gratitude. Thanks.

Thank you sir.

I appreciate and relish the opportunity to contribute. Thanks again.

Great to hear so many new users. I understand why you keep registration closed. It would be a pain and I wouldn't want your job of going through all of these accounts to manage status etc.

Thanks for all the hard work you do Michael and staff!

Woohoo I made the cut! Lol jk. But thanks for the account, I'll make the most of it. Happy to be a part of Daily Paul

I am seeking to learn the way things ACTUALLY are, not the way someone tells me they are

I think...

You should do this annually or more Michael, I'm sure it's tedious vetting all of them, but keep the community growing :)
I, like many others love the DP, it's a source or news, info & opinion that I otherwise would never see. Keep up the great work, but remember if we don't grow then our range of opinion stays completely narrow & it's not productive. Just my opinion, peace, love & gold

Thanks!

Thanks for not deactivating my account. I scrambled to register that day and then things got busy and I forgot to visit the introduction thread. I'll go hunt that down now...

Hi Michale :)
Congrats on the new members, that's fantastic! Hope it's okay that I post here with the Q...I'm still not able to have full access even after I renewed my paid membership?
Thank you for your time.

Look forward to hearing from them...

Thanks Walters

(For the life of me, I can never remember how to spell your first name, and I don't want to butcher it.)

I'll try to make time to listen to this sometime this week.

No worries... Call me anything but late for supper...

My Dad and I share the name. I'm a junior. We don't spell it the the same as others.

Derrel Eugene Walters, Jr.

They all called me D.J. growing up. I've been Derrel for the last 10 years or so.

More detail?

How did you classify spammers? Were they doing Drupal bot registrations? How are you sure that new restrants saw the requirement to announce?

Curious how some never activated...bots again?

Oh yeah and newbs also have chat privilege so we've been seeing a fair amount of them.

Not such a bad haul. Hope it sets a precedent for future arking.

Smudgie

Spammers are classified as people who spam.

Spam: Irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent on the Internet to a large number of recipients.

There are a few folks who got on and thought this was some kind of an announcement platform. Compose once, then copy/paste, copy/paste, copy/paste on multiple threads.

There might have been a few bots. But more common than bots (which can still be defeated by Captchas) are click farms / spam farms found overseas.

There are specifically unique username and emails types that are signatures for spammers. I won't go into it in detail here, but I've been doing this for over 10 years now, so I've got an idea.

Maybe some of the people didn't see the request that they introduce themselves, but they can try to register next time the ark door is opened.

Anyway, I like people who are respectful and who are paying attention. I'm not into the average riff raf.

Thanks Smudge.

Beyond your individual determination

of spam, It would be cool if each of us could ignore any thread we have no interest in. An IGNORE option would allow us to customize our preferences to those topics we feel strongly about and eliminate those which appear as clutter to me.

nice!

Thanks again Michael! Glad to be here!
