Fla. mom arrested for allowing son to play at park gets free legal defense

The heavy hand of Florida law enforcement slapped cuffs on a single mother last week for the crime of letting her son play at a neighborhood park by himself.

Charged with child neglect, Nicole Gainey faces up to five years in prison. If convicted, her 7-seven-year-old boy could end up in state custody.

Think the arrest is a small town one-off? Think again, says John Whitehead, a constitutional attorney for the Virginia-based Rutherford Institute.

There are no unusual circumstances in this case, he told Watchdog.org. It could pretty much happen to any family, he said.

Back in my day.... :)

Man am I getting old..

Anyway, my dad was a barber for many years before becoming a teacher. From about my second grade year through my sixth grade year, during the summer months he would take us to the donut shop for breakfast and coffee, then straight to our local park where he would drop me off with my fishing pole, tackle, and worms. I would fish until lunch time, and then he would bring us lunch. After lunch I would keep on fishing, or he would drop me off at the public pool, also at the park. Then he would come pick me up after he closed down his barber shop, about six pm or so. Never did we have a problem, never was I kidnapped, molested, beat up, or bothered. It was either have fun at the park, or sit in a barber shop all stinking day, and that wasn't hard to decide.

Video Says it all

I don’t get this at all,

our parents in 4th and 5th grade used to let us play at friendship park by ourselves after school until it got dark. It was custom. What’s the difference? Nobody watched us or anything and it was a city park.

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

I remember those days.. The difference seems two fold

1)Violent crimes are either more prevalent and more publicized, or more publicized.

2) People are not standing up to the more statist solutions proposed in great enough numbers.
