Are Local Newspapers the way?

Like most of you, I'm angry and frustrated by the National media black-out. It's become more than apparent that the "will of the People" is of less than no interest to elites like Rupert Murdoch.

I've read many times that "All politics are local". With that thought in mind, I'd appreciate some feedback from y'all on an idea for economically and effectively spreading Dr. Paul's message.

Every community has a local newspaper. Our rural North Carolina county weekly reaches the majority of folks and people here actually read it. They also discuss it among themselves. It's not a part of any big media conglomerate... it's owned by a guy in our community with no obligation to "toe the corporate line". Advertising rates are modest and it covers the entire county. I suspect that most of you have a similar paper in your area.

My question is: Even though we've been silenced by the corporate media, do we have an even better and more effective "secret weapon" at our disposal through our local newspapers? How could we organize our efforts to en-masse reach every "Topeka Tribune" and "Selma Sentinel" in the country. Explain the positions. Tell the story. Wake-up our fellow Americans to the corruption of our current system and to the hope that exists in a Ron Paul presidency.

Larry Lepard did a heroic (but expensive) act with his full page ad in USA Today. Are local papers the vehicle we've been looking for?

Any thoughts?

Listen, Call you papers and aks them if they are interested in

interviewing you meet up group. Have a special event like a meet up group/ blood donation and get free press.

Just please put your best foot forward. No CFR, Conspiracy stuff. Talk the about the importance of sound money and constitutional law. Local papers will eat this stuff up!!!!!!

Great Idea. That blood drive

Great Idea.
That blood drive thing would make great local stories too.

I brought this up before

When the RP HQ released his economic recovery plan. Could we just run a whole page ad? Too costly? Need permission from HQ or are they planning on doing this themselves? I really think the economy is the one common thread that people will sit up and listen to.

Local free papers - state by state list

The following web page contains a list, by state, of free publications and their circulation numbers.

manofcommonsense ads = terrific

We ran the 1/4 page Manofcommonsense.com ad in our local paper, the Bee News (we skipped the larger regional paper) and included an email address. They just came out yesterday. I think it's the first time there were any ads in the area! (That I've heard, anyway).

We also ended up running some classifieds in our local PennySavers paper. The classifieds can be very cheap - it was about $5 for 12 words, 25 cents per additional word. If you place it in 2 or 3 categories, it's still very cheap. And we ended up putting it in a few different locations, each with readership of about 15,000 or more.

At least, minimally, people who see the ads will know Ron Paul has NOT dropped out -- despite the lack of media coverage!

And let's hope they contact us or do some research!

Yes Absolutley!

I ran a 1/4 page ad in our area shoppers guide this week that was distributed county wide. Our local meetup leader started gettting calls off the ad from the first day. Just do it!

does anybody have ads for local papers?

www.manofcommonsense.com is a good link.

Does anybody have any other links of ads for a full page local newspaper ad?

full page ad

Just found this site today, & there is a link at bottom for advertising

In my rural area in Colorado

In my rural area in Colorado our little Ron Paul Meetup group has been putting ads in the local newspapers for 3 weeks now. We also did a mass mailing to as many people in our county as we could afford (printing, envelopes, stamps). We also have taken flyers around to businesses as well as put them on any public bulletin boards. These are ways to bypass the MSM, so we should all do what we can in our areas, no matter how small.

local newspapers are the way

I think local newspapers are the way to go.
My local newspaper, is the Latrobe Bulletin.

I am debating about putting in a full page ad the weekend before the PA primary.
A full page is $1644.75.
A half page is $841.50.

The paper goes to 8100 homes and the publisher said they use 2.4 as the multiplier to calculate readers. So, that would be 19,440 people.

I have already maxed out my donations to HQ, and I think this is really the way to go.

yes good idea

It sounds like a lot of people , including my area, have been placing small ads in local papers even classifieds which are not expensive. everyone looks in classifieds for jobs, to buy things etc. the reach is pretty big!

put a supporter's ph# or email address so they can contact someone locally.

would be great to have one website to coordinate all the small town papers. like if we have several ads running in one area/county, maybe others in that area who want to help can work on a neighboring area instead
... just to make sure all areas are covered

note that many states also have press associations, eg in Utah they used the state press assoc to place a lot of ads for a low price

absolutely -- here's an ad you can run

www.manofcommonsense.com

I called my town's local paper, but it turns out (of course) to be owned by a larger media group, and I can't get my calls returned. I will keep trying, but I'm too late now for Feb 5th. If my primary were later I would absolutely do it, and I will probably do it, anyway, because Ron Paul is in this one for the long haul.

THIS IS THE GREATEST IDEA

THIS IS THE GREATEST IDEA YET!!!!

SOMEONE SHOULD MAKE A WEBSITE THAT LISTS EVERY LOCAL NEWSPAPER,

WITH A LINK TO DONATE TOWARDS THAT SPECIFIC NEWSPAPER CAMPAIGN!

WE COULD THEN SELECTIVELY DONATE TO THE STATES RON PAUL IS AFTER! AND WIN ALL STATES THAT WE PUT OUR MIND TO!

THIS REVOLUTION IS MIRACULOUS!!!

I agree with you

this is why there needs to be an UMBRELLA site....whether it's ultimateron.com or some other to have these types of ideas on the FRONT PAGE so that all of us can check in.....and CHIP IN.

We all need a CENTRALIZED place....

The Ron Paul campaign HQ needs to help us with this....b/c many have maxed out and want to give more to ideas like this but there doesn't seem to be any coordination.

Jesus is the saviour of the WHOLE WORLD, "As in Adam all die, so too in Christ ALL shall be made alive." (ICor.15:22) All means all. The pagan 'hell' of literal fire & eternal torment is a lie and is SPIRITUAL TERRORISM. http://www.hopebeyondhell.net/blog

empty: That's a great idea!

empty: That's a great idea! Use the National nature of the Internet to collect and then provide funding for specific local efforts at critical "pressure points". I wish we'd thought of this weeks ago... we could have "bombed" all of the Super Tuesday communities.

Anyone know what legal organization "status" (LLC, non-profit, ?) something like this would need so as not to run aground of FEC rules?

The ads need to have a consistent and "Pro" look to them, imho... we're building a brand here.

This could work! Sure would be fun to "flip-off" Fox news...

UPDATE:

Just found this site:

http://www.usnpl.com/address/npmail.html

3800 Local Newspapers in all 50 States. Word or Excel list for $69.95 can't beat the price, huh?

If a full page ad cost on average, $1000, we could blanket the country for $3.8M dollars! That's value
