We've Hit Peak Bacon, People. Everybody Panic

The price of bacon keeps getting heftier.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average price of a pound of bacon in American cities rose another 6 cents in June, to an all-time high of $6.11. That's a 14 percent increase since June 2013 and a whopping 41 percent more than it cost in June 2012, when people were already writing articles about how expensive bacon was. Here's a graph illustrating the dramatic rise in bacon prices over the past couple years:

"If you allow central pig

"If you allow central pig farmers to control the issuance of bacon and steal your eggs through manipulation of bacon inflation and bacon deflation, your children and grand children will wake up starving and homeless, lucky to get by on a crusty dried half piece of bologna and a couple of blue jay eggs they found in the park."

Its very sad.

We are getting porked by pork.

That's the sodium nitrate/nitrite verision.

REAL bacon has been over $10 a pound for several years now.

You'd be lucky to even find a 16oz. pack of real bacon in stores now as they have all gone to 12oz. trying to keep a ≈ $8 price point.

Bernanke's rebuts:

"We've been very, very clear that we will not allow bacon inflation to rise above 2 percent."

"Although bacon inflation is generally good, bacon inflation that is too low can pose risks to the economy - especially when the pork-barrel economy is struggling."

Thats funny

SU wwwweeeet. Like to see the silver price going up too.

Hog virus

There is / was a pig virus spreading around the country that was killing large numbers of piglets. I understand it was traced to the feed. I don't know if the industry has gotten the problem under control yet, or not. In the mean time the disease is cutting the supply of pigs.

Free Ranging Hogs

A ranch manager in Brooks Co., Texas, said he won’t eat wild hogs caught near the border because they are known to feed on dead illegal aliens.

Actually I think this represents

the overall rise in goods and services, especially food in this case.

3 days ago after a 2 mile race I stopped with the wife to get some bacon. I commented to her that the price had gone up and she stated we were going the way of Europe. I do not know the validity of this, but her statement was that food in Europe had gone up to the point it was requiring a substantial percentage of their budgets just to eat. Regardless of Europe, due to inflation and manipulation of the markets, it is costing me more to feed my family. I have seen an increase in our food budget the last 2 years and most of it the last 6 months.

It is my opinion that this is another form of slavery in action. I think the goal of the PTB is to have every arena of life controlled; food, lodging, health care, education, etc. The more it costs me to live the more I have to work and the more I am invested in the system. There is a war for every budgetary item you have.

Plenty of feral hogs in Texas.

And plenty of fat pigs in D.C.

It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people that pay no price for being wrong.

I'd like to see that chart based on silver.

Makes me wonder if 5 pounds of bacon was around a dollar back in the 60's?

I do think the demand for bacon is increasing

we as a society, are no longer ashamed of our love of bacon. It's added to everything now (donuts, salads, soda (see photo below). Even on my super healthy recipe site (wellnessmama.com) she adds bacon to lots of dishes.
So bacon might not be the best marker of things to come (other than lots of satisfied appetites).
