Farewell to the Daily Paul

Recently Michael announced that he will keep the ark afloat for a few more months before shutting it down(http://www.dailypaul.com/comment/3467430).
I'd like to say thank you to Michael and everyone else here who have made this community what it is today. I am disappointed that the DP will be shutting down, but at one point or another I realized that liberty doesn't live on a URL, it lives in the hearts and minds of us all.

O Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:

But O heart! heart! heart!

O the bleeding drops of red,

Where on the deck my Captain lies,

Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! My Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;
For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;

Here captain! dear father!

This arm beneath your head;

It is some dream that on the deck,

You've fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;

Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!

But I, with mournful tread,

Walk the deck my captain lies,

Fallen cold and dead.

I know you'll go on to do other things Michael, but this proves your success with the DP.

Finally, I'd like to open up the comments to let members say their farewells, to connect with other DP'ers before this place shuts down, and to chart a course of action to spread the ideas of liberty.

I remember Michael saying he wouldn't allow this site

to become the Daily Rand - Is this part of the reason as we get closer to the 2016 election?

Rather shut it down instead of feeding the delusions of Randian grandeur.

I like illusions instead of delusions

less likelihood of mental disorder. :-O

Nooonooonoooo! Don't close the door yet

This has been one of the longest and most rewarding relationships I've had in the last decade! Besides my pets, lol

Maybe more help from moderators?

This is my *go to* place for the best information on political topics. What a loss of a great one stop shop resource!

I hope Michael just takes a much needed break and then comes back refreshed.

Michael, we appreciate all you do for Liberty!

Im sure the DP will take on a new face

Michael deserves a big offer for this site. It has plenty of members and multiple hit's which is an advertisers wet dream.

I sincerely appreciate what he has done and salute him for bowing out on top.

Hang in there folks, this is a more likely outcome:

I didn't

even realize it was shutting down. Wow what a surprise it will be if I come here and find a parking page after all these years.

Maybe they are all going Galt on us

Anyone have a map to the gulch?

Currently consuming: Morehouse's "Better off free", FDR; Wii U; NEP Football

We still have Tom

We still have Tom Woods.

Peter Schiff has also cut back...way back... on the amount of time he'll be devoting to his talk show.

I don't believe for a minute that the DailyPaul will be ...

...shutting down.

Maybe I'm just optimistic, but if Rand runs for president, the DailyPaul will become one of the hottest sites on the net.

I think it will even surpass its success during Ron's campaigns.

And can you imagine if Rand were miraculously to win the presidency??? Or even the GOP nomination (which the RNC will fight all the way of course).

This site MUST stay around.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Then get an investment group

Then get an investment group together and make Mike an offer he can't refuse. He obviously has no plans beyond the end of this year. Full stop.

The MAN can't see the DP's value?

How much did they get for the Huffington Post?

I say let's low-ball him on the first offer.

We can always go up.

Even the Foreign Legion only requires a five year commitment

Two tours in seven years nearing eight. I think Michael has been exemplary in his commitment to keeping the DP up and running with minimal downtime and in facilitating a central hub for Ron Paul supporters to meet, share ideas and run with them.

Maybe in someways with people of diverse backgrounds and philosophical leanings, the DP was starting to resemble the Foreign Legion.

"...a reputation as a haven for cut-throats, crooks and sundry fugitives from justice" and also having many men escaping failed romances. Tweedie said that since the legion had asked few questions of its new recruits, it became "an ideal repository for the scum of the earth."

Indeed, membership with no questions asked. But I'd like to think we all gained something by reading each others posts and engaging in ideas genesis. Opportunities, when they present themselves, don't always last.

C'est la vie.

questions from some jetsam

Why open up membership these past couple of weeks?....just to announce that DP will shut down in 4 months? I dont get it...

Why not introduce a system where members purchase X amount/annually from beefed up DP store in lieu of straight-up donations? I would like to buy DP silver/gold coins etc.

As an election year, 2016 will most probably see quite a bit of increased traffic/membership. Alexa currently shows like a 25% annual decrease in most metrics for DP...was this caused by closing of Ark doors?

Hey Mates,

Can we all be more gentle and considerate, PLEASE!

Seems like A LOT is going on behind the scenes.

Possible suggestions:

-less bickering, fighting, down-voting, negativity;
-more uplifting and inspirational posts/comments
-more ideas and personal success stories dealing with life
-new paths, views

-anyone live near MA that can offer a getaway for 2? anyone live someplace big, beautiful and peaceful that can welcome 2 guests? does Ron Paul live on a farm? Maybe he can share some personal wisdom with our MAN?

-more jokes/humor needed?
-destress tips?
other ideas?

Someone said to me recently that Michael could go to

any State in the entire country and would never have to pay for a hotel room, since DPers would happily open their homes to him and his wife. I know I'd certainly welcome them into my home for as long as they wanted to stay.

Wouldn't we all?

I admit

I have no idea whether Michael is just thinking aloud because he cares about us or whether he's warning us because he cares about us. I have no clue as to what Michael actually plans to do, but whatever he does, we have to respect his decision. You never know, the DP may get an increase in traffic for the midterms.

No, he's serious this time.

No, he's serious this time. End of the party train.

Mid Terms Increase - Why

Is the DP showcasing any candidates?

RG, I didn't know you were a newbie.

Your posts have bummed me out on many threads. It's very confusing to know whether you are 'for' something or 'against' something. Seems like you keep switching sides? Or I just don't comprehend your lingo?

More positivity at this fragile time would be appreciated. What is the point of being unsupportive on several things where support is needed?

How about sharing with us what you like about the DP? I can't access your intro post. What do you think will cheer up our Mayor & Captain?

(none of your downvotes are from me)

Sorry Sorry Sorry

When I need an excuse I just say Sorry, I'm from Iowa. Then people seem to know right away that they have to forgive me.

I know you girls think differently than men. I am married to a woman and she is correcting me all the time. She is usually right.

The MAN will perk-up soon because as soon as this election is over the 2016 Election begins. When you search Rand Paul (Future President of the United States) you come up with the Daily Paul.

MAN would cheer-up if he goes to Ames for the 1st Presidential Debate. MAN can stay at my little brother's place. The winner usually gets about 5000 votes. If Rand [WON] by 5000 votes that would send a clear message to America and MAN would be very HAPPY and we can all celebrate with a Mud-Shark, my favorite brew.

I saw Governor George W. Bush give his 1st speech at the Ames debate. It looked to me like Forbes had more buses than W but the locals is probably what pushed W over the top. Of course the most important person for Rand in Iowa is Jan Mickelson on WHO Radio in Des Moines, 30 miles from Ames. I have been on Jan Mickelson's show 3 times.

If you go to Ames USA2012 you can stay at my big brother place.

I'm so sorry I upset you with that question. It will NEVER happen again. I promise. PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
