Michael, is this a rumor or are you really shutting Down The Daily Paul?

I pray that it is just a rumor!

I come here every day, many times a day, to see what is happening in the country and the world.

I trust the news here before I look anywhere else.

I think it may be time for all of us to meet at local levels, and yes others are working toward huge events, but friendships develop from small groups where we can all have a chance optimize out time and talents.

Maybe for you it would be a chance to put faces to our names.

Also, if possible, is there a way to have a: Daryl@TheDailyPaul.com email?

If so, I would be honored to make it my Primary email account.

I know what your thinking, oh no Not more work! but, think about the advertising it would create for others to come here visit, join and as a benefit of a paying membership, could get an email account.

As a final note, this site has become my home and I hope you find a way to keep it going. Perhaps you could turn it, or spin it to a 501c organization. Then you could hire professional fundraisers to fill the coffers. Just a thought or 2.

But, Thank you for all that you have done! I also thank God that you came to create the Daily Paul when you did!

I also thank all members for the contributions to the growth of the Liberty Movement and for being part of my extended family.

I hope one day soon, we will have a chance to meet.

With all the talk of where the Daily Paul goes from here, I thought I should say something.

I have had this on my mind and thought I would share and see what you all think.
I think Rand Paul should hold off running for President in 2016.
If Rand runs in 2016 and he does not make it, he is done. He will lose his seat in the Senate. I think he should run for his Senate seat and hold off till 2020. I think we need Ron Paul to run one last time in 2016. A sort of I told you so campaign. I fear the Republican party will push Rand to run and then pull some bull crap just enough for him to lose in the primaries.
I think Ron would be hard to beat this time around.

That's it.

My take is: Everyting in life sometimes gets old or stale or...

...loses some of the magic it once had. Even the things we love doing.

My guess is that The DailyPaul (being a lot of work to run day after day and month after month) is probably no different.

But in the end I'm thinking that underlying all the hassle, work and energy it takes to run it, this site is very near and dear to Michael's heart and thus he'll keep it going thru the tough times.

I can't imagine my online life without the DailyPaul.

I'm hoping he feels the same way.

That being said, everyone sending him some financial support won't hurt anything either!

That is a very sweet post, Daryl.

I share your sentiments.

Are there Daily Paul T shirts for sale??

I want one.

I guess I'll chime in--

It seems to me we push Rand Paul too much on this website. So what he's Ron Paul's son. The thing I ALWAYS liked about Dr. Ron Paul was that he was NEVER compromising. He was unflinching in his moral principles and stood strong in his political views. This all resulted in his being CONSISTENT.

I just never saw that in Rand.

The other recent complaint I have is that I don't see enough consistently on Ukraine. This is such an important story we all need to be following it, as it could lead to a full-out nuclear war, especially with the trillionaire miscreant psychopaths we have leading our government and military.

We have to remember why we came to this website in the beginning. It was the TRUTH. Dr. Paul just happened to be a part of an awakening. We know must continue seeking truth at any and all levels, not that Nystrom doesn't do this. He does. We just are missing some very important global stories as of late, and we must stay on top of them. That's all I gotta say.

Not sure how my T shirt comment is related to this.

It's been a hell of a ride.

Well this sucks but it is incredibly difficult to run an online forum; especially one that deals in politics.

I have supported more bans and moderation because I felt the forum had devolved into an echo chamber of speculative theories.

I love this place despite my criticisms. I cherish the alternative news, the cool book postings and the people. I've been here since 2007 and couldn't imagine how the Ron Paul campaigns would had been without it.

Sad to see it go. But it's been a hell of a ride.

Recent Reception

I sure will miss this place.

ronpaulforums.com appears to

ronpaulforums.com appears to still be around.

RPF is full of racists,

RPF is full of racists, anti-semites, progressives, libertines, and crazies. I much prefer LibertyConservatives.com

There's also the newer

There's also the newer http://www.libertyconservatives.com/ which is growing quite fast and doesn't have the ban culture that RPF does.

Support Rand, Amash & other liberty candidates? Check out: http://www.LibertyConservatives.com/

The revenue fell off because

free speech is not permitted on this site. Should have picked a better moderator or none at all. The are many threads, we are not here to talk about the weather. Freedom is freedom of choice; nothing more.

OK, it's friday

Where's the donate form?

EDIT: again

I loved donating before and buying a Ron Paul t-shirt. Michael even signed it for me! Priceless. Why not bundle something in with our donations. Donate 25+ get a signed copy of etc etc from Charles Goyette, Ron Paul, or anyone from voices of liberty.

Just a thought.

As the Smaulgld.com site owner and operator

I know on a lesser scale why Michael is doing this.

-you make no money, indeed you lose money after all your costs fees- you don't make it up in ads, even with lots of traffic.

-it is time consuming to write or in Michael's case mostly to moderate to protect the integrity of the site.

-it can be frustrating- there are often site issues that need to be resolved (by spending more time and money)

-you need a focus that sustains your interest.

The Daily Paul was started as far as I know because of Ron Paul's second run for President in 2008, was sustained through his third run in 2012. The raison d'etre is gone.

While as Michael says quoting George Harrison, all things must pass, it would be a shame to see the DP community disperse.

I would be willing to add at my own expense a forum adjunct to smaulgld.com if any one is interested.

Over time perhaps we could add chat and other features. Add me as a friend on the DP or comment here if you are interested.

Michael deserves a big thanks for all his time and passion. And I thank him for allowing me to participate.

Please subscribe to smaulgld.com

I understand...

I understand that you gotta do what you gotta do. Our hearts will collectively sink when we get the 404 error the first time. This site was my #1 visited site during the 2011-2012 election season. There will be a giant vacuum come 2015-2016 for Rand's run at the White House.

why should he shut it down?

and if he does, why doesn't someone else just put it back up?

jrd3820's picture

Just put it back up?

This is Michael's property, he is the only one who can put it up. The site, the domain name; it is his.

He has discussed the possibility of shutting it down partially due to revenue dropping. If he does so, other ppl can put up the dailypaulnumber2, but it won't be the same.

However there were some complete geniuses in the chat room last night talking about how this place is a gold mine and they could do it better for less money. They have been saying things like that for a while, but they would never do it because they know they couldn't do it better for less money.

They point is, someone else can't just put the dailypaul back up. Someone else can work on making other versions of the dailypaul, but most people are just talk and wouldn't do that. That would require a lot of work for little money (just like Michael does now) and no one really wants to do that. They want Michael to do that for them.

However there were some complete geniuses in the chat room last night talking about how this place is a gold mine and they could do it better for less money.

Cloud hosting is 12 cent per GB from Amazon(up to 10TB/month)(which is one of the most expensive providers) http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/pricing/

1 TB is 85 million pages of text(this site is basically entirely text based)

There is no possible way this site takes more then 50 bucks a month to host. If time for programming is the factor, why doesn't Nystrom ask for help from the dozens of programmers on this site? If moderating is the factor, I'm sure there are a few dozen people willing to do it for free(including me). I wouldn't be surprised if some SEO's would be willing to help for free.

To say that is losing money because of hosting or something is an insult to anyone with even slight web intelligence. I don't care if Nystrom want's to make a buck from this site(I know I would), but don't be disingenuous about the reasons he wants money, Be forthright with what he wants help with.

The hardest part of any website is getting users(and that costs big), this site has an established user base, thus it's a "gold mine" of potential advertizing money.

Tools of war are not always obvious. The worst weapon is an idea planted in the mind of man. Prejudices can kill, suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has an everlasting fallout all of its own.

jrd3820's picture

Do it. Make the site. Stop talking and do it.

No really, it would be a great entrepreneurial venture. If it is so easy to do which you said it was, and you could have a goldmine by doing it; do it.

'Daily Paul' Appears to be Preparing to Shutdown at the End of the Year

First Peter Schiff cancels his daily radio show, now this. Is there stagnation in parts of the libertarian movement?

I really think that this is a reflection of the difference between Rand Paul now in the spotlight versus when Ron Paul was in the spotlight. Ron ALWAYS talked hardcore pure libertarianism, which caused people to search out and try to understand libertarianism, everyday it was new people becoming part of the libertarian movement. As chronicled here, Rand's message is a muddled message, where in one instance he even declared that libertarianism was an albatross around his neck (TIME).

That type of talk is not going to cause people to try and understand more about libertarianism. In fact, judging by the Schiff and Daily Paul actions, the marginal followers of libertarianism are likely drifting away from libertarianism.

Debbie's picture

This is BS.

Peter said he is going to be doing at least a 2-hour podcast weekly of just him talking, no commercials, no interviews, just his straight analysis, and he's going to be doing more of his video blogs like he used to do before the radio show. I'm looking forward to that and think that will be great. EPJ has always been against Rand; almost seems like an agenda.

it's more politics as usual these days and mostly conformists (boring except for Snowden). i'm for the long view anyhow. i'll back Gary Johnson if he runs. i'd like to see that 1% become 5% and on and on and spread the libertarian message of ron paul world wide.

I felt the same way when I chose to leave Alex Jones' forum

I had the same feeling you have now when I made the conscious decision to discontinue my frequent conversations with like-minded and not-so-like-minded individuals on Alex Jones' forum a long, long time ago.

I felt certain that I would never, EVER, find such a unique home on the interwebs for me to continue my lifelong education through this sort of communication.

(I think you can guess where this little story is headed, yes?)

My experience here on the DP over the last 6+ years has been nothing short of life-changing ... and that is saying something as someone who has been a Ron Paul supporter since 1984.

Yep, Dr. Paul is awesome, but the Daily Paul community is awesome-er.

I'd hate to see it go

but, I realize that eventually all things must pass away.

Debbie's picture

No, they must not necessarily pass away.

It depends on if someone wants to keep it created or not.

eventually though

all things will pass away including you, me, michael, ron paul and the planet.

I Can't Imagine...

I come here often to read about all of the crooked cops. I just never seem to get tired of hearing about them although I've near really understood why bad cop stories have found a home here.

I'm just glad they have.

you should put The Free

you should put The Free Thought Project on your favorites if you want to follow the cop stories.
