Looting Resumes In Ferguson; Local Police Ordered To Stand Down

So now police are standing down? Is the idea to let looters inflict so much pain that the citizens will beg the police to bring back the Fallujah-style policing tactics? Clearly there's a middle ground between Fallujah and the "wild west". Yet another reason to have a 2nd amendment. If these are the only 2 options (lawlessness vs combat-zone) given to people by police then citizen militias are needed.

After a day of relative peace, things turned ugly again in Ferguson when shortly after midnight crowds again resorted to looting and vandalism in multiple businesses along West Florissant Ave with the focal point being the QuikTrip convenience store which Mike Brown allegedly robbed. The incidents seemed to gather steam after 12:00am.

According to KTVI, at least 200 St. Louis County Police officers were on scene and helping handle the situation. They confirm the Domino’s Pizza on West Florissant was set fire and burned. They also confirm multiple businesses vandalized and looted. But the shocker happened when county Police told Fox 2 News that its officers were at the Ferguson Market earlier when looters showed up, but were ordered to “Stand down” by Missouri State Highway Patrol incident commanders at the scene and basically withdrew and allowed the looters to have their way with the store.

The DHS tactics used by the

The DHS tactics used by the city police, then disallowed by the state police point to the manner in which federal governance treats mere citizens. The law enforcement on display by state troopers, the day after DHS tactics destroyed any hope of city police acting within the law, was a retrenchment of the way service and protection ought to be. My kudos to the State of Missouri, and their reassertion of state led law enforcement. The DHS; its surplus military hardware, and teaching how to use it in crowd suppression was soundly superseded by this state. Ought to be a lesson in proper service and protection for all city police nationwide, who have been 'gifted' with riot gears.

That's Ridiculous

The games being played by the police there is a disgrace. They let it burn in order to make it seem like they need the military-style storm troopers.

PATHETIC.

Looter/Protesters

The Looter/Protesters are pathetic. I wish people would stop characterizing every legitimate police action as a "police state." The looters need to change or they will go extinct.

The police are too compromised to have any authority

The police are not trusted by the populace, so if they tried to suppress the protests/riots they would become the object of rage. Standing down probably helped defuse some of the tensions that could have made this riot much bigger.

I'm not feeling any love for Rep William Lacy Clay who got up in front of an emotional crowd and basically accused the police of a cover up. That just added gas to a smoldering fire.

I think 'inciting a riot' requires direct advocacy of rioting, but his speech came damn close.

My advice for people in Ferguson...

Be weary of agitators for violence. Do you know that person? Does anyone you know know that person?

As well, the State has control of the media and will use it to demonize your actions - where you have no similar recourse. Refuse to participate in violence, and instead peacefully protest for meaningful accountability and equality under the law.

Looting and vandalism of private property will not help advance your position but will, instead, place financial burdens on parties not guilty of any wrongdoing.

If you discover that it's primarily outsiders at the fountainhead of calls for violence, report it on youtube or twitter.

Here's a disturbing sequence of events

Look at the video. There are people trying to guard the store and quite proud of the wares remaining intact.

"More than two dozen people blocked off the store with cars early Saturday, then officers commanded them through loudspeakers to free it up."

If this is all the same store in this story, then the police dispersed locals and prevented them from protecting stores from looters.

I wash watching the live feed this morning....3 am ish

My understanding from watching the events unfold, and people posting, the folks trying to block the looters were threatened with violence. Someone in the looter crowd stated they were going to get their guns and come back.

I think that was the reason they dispersed.

I heard them saying in the CNN

video about the looters threatening to burn the store if they didn't let them at it, but they were standing their ground at the time they said that so they at least didn't disperse at the first threat.

Yeah, the looters do have some power to force the locals away, but at the same time that makes me think those are people who came to that town just to loot because the psychology of mobs says the locals just saying "no" decisively would cause other locals to stand down. Their sense of individual responsibility no longer gets transferred to the collective when one of their own says it isn't right.

Oh, now you want the Nazis?

If you called me a Nazi and threw shit at me for helping protect you I'd tell you to f off and walk away too.

These protesters are acting like children and you want the cops to do what? Protect them from themselves?

Looting the stores will bring more unemployment, more abandon buildings and less services.

One cop kills someone and so all cops are oppressors - you are no different than the person who says one black man robs a store therefore all black men are criminals.

"If you called me a Nazi and threw shit at me for helping protect you I'd tell you to f off and walk away too."

Good. Take all your military hardware and your jackboots and walk. We don't want an occupying army.

"These protesters are acting like children and you want the cops to do what? Protect them from themselves?"

Cops should start by policing their own and bringing corrupt cops to justice. Then they should act like officers of the LAW and not an occupying force.

"Looting the stores will bring more unemployment, more abandon buildings and less services."

You're absolutely correct. It's wrong. Perhaps the police and citizens could work together to protect property.

"One cop kills someone and so all cops are oppressors - you are no different than the person who says one black man robs a store therefore all black men are criminals."

Yeah, except this isn't an isolated event. This is a long train of usurpations and abuses evincing a design to reduce us all under absolute despotism

"The United States can pay any debt it has because we can always print money to do that." — Alan Greenspan

Huh?

You don't think there's a middle ground then? And don't tax dollars go toward paying police? But they're allowed to just "change their mind" and decide to no longer work and that's okay by you?

The common law of agency already answers all of this.

If the Principal accuser invokes the agency of peace officers to keep the peace and remove criminal looters by bringing them to justice then the lawful agents already have a contractually bound duty to keep the peace and they have bounds of lawful operations in that duty .i.e. protect rights of innocent until proven guilty by jury, no cruel and unusual punishment.

The middle ground is the already defined by Constitutional contractual bounds which is all rooted in the common law of agency. But no one knows this so we just have lawless chaos were no one knows what to do because everyone has ignored the protections of law resulting in a lawless society on all sides.

Whatever happened to common sense?

Oh I forgot, the cops have had common sense removed and replaced with training to only follow orders.
