precinct leader advice please

0 votes

Okay, I decided to buck up and get involved directly with the campaign as a precinct leader.

So I'm trying the nonadvocacy phone script. I've gone through the first entire page on numbers. The majority weren't home.

Of the ten or so that one, only one nice old lady was willing to participate. She of course is voting for Clinton.

I don't want to say this is a waste of time, because doing anything for the Paul campaign is not a waste, but in the desire to make the best use of my time, am I much better off going door to door. It's also worth noting, that I live in a heavily democratic area.

thanks

In the bluest state

I found that 90% of undeclared/republicans will take slim jims and DVDs in Massachusetts. I keep it short and sweet, a simple smile and "I have some free info for you" as I reach to give it to them, very rarely do they not take it. I've actually found it's more likely that registered republicans won't take it compared to undeclareds. I have experienced canvasing working, not only from my own canvasing but from my friends in other towns being hit by their precinct leaders and then they decide they will vote for RP. I believe canvasing is powerful; it shows that people really care about the candidate to sacrifice their own time.

there is no substitute for shaking your neighbors hand and sharing a brief message about Dr. Paul. Canvass!!

How to Win

We won delegate spots for Dr. Paul here in NV and took 2nd...

for open primaries

this may be useful for Dems if they can vote for anyone in the primaries -- esp if they are on the fence:

I really like that flier comparing Obama, Hillary, and Ron Paul
They used it as a local newspaper ad in Nevada early Nov.

also...

...if you know a democrat (check your meetup group) that has converted to paul, bring him along and have them point blank say "i changed parties to support paul for X Y and Z"

wait for reaction....its beautiful. ;-)

MAIL

If you can mail out info on the issues... on the phone they can cut out off but if they get mail and open it you have a better chance I think.

Walking also helps if they are already a Repub... don't waste time with Dems on the list. We just need to hit U, R and I's not D's.

to do list:

get precinct addresses for ALL registered voters. get a buddy to help. go door to door day to day.

introduce yourself as a volunteer canvasser supporting a democratic process survey (something along those lines).

ask:

what are your top two issues concerning you regarding U.S. politics?
(have boxes you can check on your sheet)

are you registered with a party to vote? record answer in your boxes

are you 100% decided on a candidate?
"yes", ask why? if its firm, say thanks and good luck
if it is incorrect answer (know the others' voting records) then politely point out the discrepency with "did you know that x voted for y?"

if "no", then ask if they have heard of dr. paul? if they say they won't vote for a republican no matter what, simply thank them....but do try and hand them a slim jim. explain that it will most likely go to a brokered convention (this also helps with "he can't win" answers...point out NV, LA and pending ME, MT, etc) if "no" and open...hand them a slim jim (i prefer slim jim b for dems) and then deliver paul's positions on their top two issues.

if you get obvious converts, GET their phone number/address/email...something for follow up. if you get, I'll look into him, thanks....leave them materials.

after you get a chunk of committed contacts, submit that to HQ. Repeat in a month.

keep up the good work!

Lemonade

Hello fellow Precinct Leader,

Make Lemonade. Lots of Democrats? that's not perfect, but its not that bad either. ID as many as you can and then you can intiate a strategy on how to turn them over. The nice thing about the Precinct Leader campaign is that it breaks things down into manageable chunks. Also to, we are laying down the groundwork for a general election run and many democrats despise Hillary. Working on their terms with their issues, many will find they actually like him once they learn more! You're just the person to help them along:)

Good info in this thread

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I think it will help fence-sitters go ahead and sign up for the precinct leader program.

BTW, Texas is an open primary state, so we are talking to everyone who will listen.

IF WE HAD IT TO DO OVER AGAIN

We would have registered more Democrats and Independents. If you don't have to register GOP then you can focus on everyone.
