Benton Resigns

He maintained his innocence, faulting "inaccurate press accounts and unsubstantiated media rumors."

"This decision breaks my heart, but I know it is the right thing for Mitch, for Kentucky and for the country," Benton said.

Dennis Fusaro has finally claimed his scalp. More than a year ago, Fusaro -- a veteran of the first and less successful Ron Paul GOP presidential bid -- started taping phone calls between himself and veterans of Paul's 2012 campaign. Right before the 2012 Iowa caucuses, Iowa State Sen. Kent Sorenson had bolted from Michelle Bachmann's campaign to join Paul. Bachmann claimed that Sorenson was bribed. He denied it.

Fusaro kept on the story. He made calls, and released the tapes to the Economic Policy Journal and the Iowa Republican. He got Sorenson referring to a check, confirming a possible bribe from Demitri Kesari, then working for the Paul campaign.

"I know Jesse knows," said Sorenson, after being prodded by Fusaro.

See ya

He won't be missed.

He was also Rand's

campaign manager in 2010.

Ron Paul Is My President

So the Bachmann campaign apparently bribed this weasel too.

Why is that not news?

Benton is a low down, dirty snake.

I hope he rots in prison for what he did to the campaign. He is one of the worst forms of scum that exist. A traitor to freedom, a tyrannical saboteur.

"Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito."

Oh, so now he's saving the "country".....

by resigning? These narcissistic psychopaths never cease to amaze me. Hey Jesse, I got a news flash for you--you're resigning, because there is enough evidence to find you guilty. Nice try though, you selfish pRick. I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt, and didn't want to believe what people were saying was true. Good for Rand though, that you want be around to sabotage his candidacy for your own gain. I bet Ron is really, really proud too.

If he want's to help he needs

If he want's to help he needs to go turn himself in so they can sentence him and toss him in jail. Giving time for it to go away before the election.

I will never quite understand...

how this guy worked for Ron Paul.

Familial blindness.

Familial blindness. I believe if he hadn't been family he never would've gotten the job.

And this where the "Guilt by Association" might hurt Rand along with "He ran Rand's father's Campaign". Unfortunately it's all a little "Too close" to Rand. He's a Relative. I really think it's going to come up, and it will probably be the Establishment GOP that uses it to try and get Jeb in there.

If Rand is smart he will stay

If Rand is smart he will stay as far from Benton as possible, now that his corruption has been exposed. If Rand ever needed to distance himself from someone, this was it. Benton and his cohorts contributed to so many missteps leading the RP Campaign that hampered the successes our people were making.

Ron always had a weak spot for trusting people he shouldn't.

I know Benton was guilty of doing the SAME stuff other campaigns do, but he should have known that the rigged game would never let him get away with the same stuff.

Nice to see one of the Political Operators who are harming the liberty movement go away.

Here's hoping we never hear from him again.

Meanwhile, Harry Reid...?

I never liked Benton, thought RP had a blind spot where family is concerned. However, this is such small potatoes compared to what goes on in politics it really brings me no joy to see him go down.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

How many RP supporters-

Have been saying this for 6+ years. Benton is the same guy that told rand to unite with mcconnel. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Remember when he told ron paul to quit the election yet keep collecting money for him and his 600000$ in CC charges.

Thank god it's finally happened to this grafter.

What Ron Paul Republicans Can Learn From Mitch McConnell’s Ex-Campaign Manager

That DailyCaller article

is not worth the time reading.

I've stated it before about Benton

and his malevolent puppet master Olsen. Read this article and question how anyone involved in the leadership of the Liberty Movement could allow this to occur. The article is a bit dated but is scarily prescient in most regards. They are sharpening their knives and waiting for Rand to show up for dinner and if Rand, as will most likely be the case, allows Benton into the campaign you can write off any donations as a cause of pounding sand down a rat hole.

There are no politicians or bankers in foxholes.

It's already hurt Rand

Just by association it's already hurt Rand, It is going to come up again and be used with a fever. It's all they got on him.

Unconstitutional War - "The story you are about to hear is true; the names and places are being changed to protect the guilty."

Bah. I see none of this

Bah. I see none of this rubbing off on Rand. If anything, Ron might be called in to testify.

The Benton era has come to an end. Good.

There are way bigger fish to fry out there. Come to think of it, Benton fried himself. We did nothing. I hope that he is a better husband and father than he is a campaign manager.

Benton may still be of use for 2016. Does Hilliary need a campaign manager?

"Teapot Dome" scandal! Bribe the campaign. Roll 'em & Poll 'em.

And throw 'em in the oven! A 1924 cartoon shows Washington officials fleeing in panic down an oil-slicked road to the White House, trying desperately to outpace the giant steamroller symbolizing the Teapot Dome scandal of President Warren G. Harding's administration.

During Warren Harding's presidency, 1922, Interior Secretary Albert B. Fall accepted a bribe of over $404,000 from Mammoth Oil and Pan America Petroleum to to get the leasing rights to the oil reserves at Teapot Dome in Wyoming [The US Navy Oil Reserve]. Unfortunately for Fall, the press caught wind and he was exposed. Prior to Watergate this was considered “greatest and most sensational scandal in the history of American politics”.

1922, Secretary of the Interior, Robert Fall leased drilling rights to the Teapot Dome Oil Reserves to Harry Sinclair’s Mammoth Oil Company, and the Elk Hills Reserve to Ed Doheney of the Pan American Petroleum Company. These agreements were no-bid contracts, and were incredibly generous to the oil companies, but an investigation indicated that the Generosity went both ways…as Fall Had received hundreds of thousands of dollars in kickbacks from the oil companies for the back-door deal. It all might have gone unnoticed, but Fall made some extravagant improvements to his lifestyle that he couldn’t possibly afford, even as a cabinet secretary…and an investigation unveiled some no-interest loans made to Fall…and it all came apart in one of the biggest government scandals in history…the biggest up to Watergate. So Big Oil involvement in Dirty Politics is by no means a new phenomenon…nor is it a new phenomenon to see highly placed government officials with their hands out to Big Oil. Teapot Dome was just the prototype of what was to come…and is still coming.

Footnote: Mr Fall took the fall. The bribe payers skated. Big Oil got bigger & bolder.

Footnote: The bribe receiver was prosecuted & served jail time. The bribers avoided convection for bribery; yet, one served brief jail time for having juror tracked around town. How is it the ones perpetrating the bribery skate?

It appears that is the question of the century.

A very powerful question -- one supporters of Ron Paul's 2012 campaign should all be asking.

"How is it the ones perpetrating the bribery skate?"

my thoughts...

Aside from his exorbitant payment, I try not to criticize Jesse too much. Every time I talked to him, he seemed smart, capable and hardworking, and his interaction with CNN certainly helped Ron get on television more.

There were a ton of forces preventing Ron from ever winning the nomination. I like Tom Woods a lot so I respect his criticism. But I think Jesse et al were just doing what they thought would help Ron.

I don't hate the guy and I don't think he's some ultimate villain. I do wish Dennis Fusaro would had spoke up and put an end to this stupid Sorenson-bribing thing. I do not understand why his response was to secretly wiretap his friends instead of setting them straight and ending this debacle the moment it as proposed.

Benton publicly hated on Ron Paul supporters during the campaign. He was so self absorbed he took credit for the successes of the grassroots and then actively tried to suppress the grassroots' influence. He probably thought he was a great campaign manager, but he failed to see that he didn't do shit but stand in the way of other people, then take credit when he couldn't stop their successes. Screw Benton. He's a piece of shit.

I feel bad for Ron Paul and I

I feel bad for Ron Paul and I feel we have the answer to what Doug Weed was telling us at the close of the 12 election cycle. He said something happened that we would all find out about. They may have had this over Paul all along. I can almost see this being a set up and Benton was fool enough to take the bait.

Keep an eye on Sorenson... If he is out of jail in a year and buyig a bigger house we will know.

Teapot Dome Scandal: Convict bribe receiver. Bribers skate free!

Teapot Dome Scandal
Written by The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica, Last Updated 12-26-2013

Teapot Dome Scandal, also called Oil Reserves Scandal or Elk Hills Scandal, in American history, scandal of the early 1920s surrounding the secret leasing of federal oil reserves by the secretary of the interior, Albert Bacon Fall. After President Warren G. Harding transferred supervision of the naval oil reserve lands from the navy to the Department of the Interior in 1921, Mr Fall secretly granted to Harry F. Sinclair of the Mammoth Oil Company exclusive rights to the Teapot Dome (Wyoming) reserves (April 7, 1922). He granted similar rights to Edward L. Doheny of Pan American Petroleum Company for the Elk Hills and Buena Vista Hills reserves in California (1921–22). In return for the leases, Fall received large cash gifts and no-interest “loans.”

When the affair became known, Congress directed President Harding to cancel the leases; the Supreme Court declared the leases fraudulent and ruled illegal Harding’s transfer of authority to Fall. Although the president himself was not implicated in the transactions that had followed the transfer, the revelations of his associates’ misconduct took a severe toll on his health; disillusioned and exhausted, he died before the full extent of the wrongdoing had been determined. Mr Fall was convicted of accepting a bribe in the Elk Hills negotiations and imprisoned. Doheny and Sinclair were acquitted of charges of bribery and criminal conspiracy, but Sinclair spent 6 1/2 months in prison for contempt of court and contempt of the U.S. Senate. Although the secretary of the navy, Edwin Denby, had signed all the leases, he was cleared of all charges. While “Teapot Dome” entered the American political vocabulary as a synonym for governmental corruption, the scandal had little long-term effect on the Republican Party. Calvin Coolidge, a Republican, was elected president in 1924.
"Who says a watched pot never boils?"

Will Jesse Benton, Campaign Manager, the alleged bribe receiver be tarred & feathered?

More importantly, will those doing the bribing skate free? See: Teapot Dome Scandal for perspective on a much larger national bribery scandal... While the bribed went to jail... the bribers...

"His river pilot's license went delinquent in 1862."

Glad to see your posting license did not go delinquent, too.

I can't wait until

I get Jesse's prison address. I'll be his most frequent pen pal to remind him what a worthless pathetic, arrogant, opportunist, egomaniac he really is. This IS a blessing for the Rand Paul campaign no matter what the Benton apologist cry.

An even worse sentence

might be for him to have to work at some minimal
wage shit job in the real world like millions of other people do.

I don't know, he might be competent enough to be assistant
manager of a convenience store or something...
