Can I do this at my caucus?
Submitted by Allegiance on Fri, 02/01/2008 - 20:13
I'm going to my MN caucus on Tues, and trying to become a delegate. I was thinking of printing out some of the fliers from www.knowbeforeyouvote.com, and handing them out there.
Does anyone know if I can do this? Is there anything 'wrong' or illegal about it?
I've brought one into work for the break room, and am planning on putting them in people's newspaper boxes over the weekend. I think the caucus would be a great place, since the people are already there.
Anyone?

Yes (Probably)
It depends on the rules for your caucus. But assume you can, and the chairman can always just tell you no.
At my caucus/convention, we had a whole table set up with a laptop playing Ron Paul video, all kinds of literature and signs and stuff, including a handout with some good endorsements from our particular state, and $40 worth of DONUTS. That may give you some ideas. People like donuts.
YES
you can do it.
That is non-partisan; I say do it.
Hell, nobody else is following the law.
Romney has all his sons out bringing bus-loads of people to the Maine caucuses - and he is standing there directing the votes!
This MUST be illegal. He is not even a resident there.
Just do it. We should rent a bunch of school busses and get a bunch of homeless people to vote for Paul - fight dirty like Romney!

By all MEANS do it!
If it's a caucus, not a primary, you are allowed to pretty much campaign inside the caucus. I just got back from my caucus in maine, and Mitt Romney's son was inside passing out fliers, for christ's sake!

voting for delegates, alternates or candidates

Yes, I think that is perfect to give them information regarding the candidates. However, in our caucus, they were electing the delegates and alternates that would vote for the candidates. There were tables for each candidates so voters could meet the delegates for that candidates. We handed out list of all the delegates and alternates that the voter would take with them as a guide on who to vote for. Since we were in the south, prolife was important to this population. Unfortunately, on for us another group called the prolife/profamily Reagan ticket, had a list of all candidates on it except for Ron Paul. McCain ran on Prolife ticket although he spent federal money on embryo research. Our primary was on another day that the voters can vote directly for the candidates.
