Report: Mike Huckabee Set for Libertarian Party Nomination Run
http://freethoughtsociety.org/?q=node/617
I just got a phone call from a relative in West Virginia, a long time, hardcore libertarian who relayed to me the wildest story. He's totally a straight shooting guy and its not like he lays crazy rumors on me all the time, so whatever he said he heard he heard. And apparently there's a rumor going around that Huckabee is set to drop out of the presidential race and give a go towards the nomination with the Libertarian Party. Along with him, his staff, and his money would apparently come his constituency. And it would be all because of his call to abolish the IRS that would be the bait.
Man, that presents a great big WTF!!
On one hand, its totally whacked, because the Libertarian Party I know (of the mid-1990s) is so not going to get into bed with a southern baptist minister. On the other hand, things have really changed after 9/11 and, from what I've been told, "a bunch of Texas Republicans" have taken over the Libertarian Party. Much of the original, purist platform has been watered down (including the non-initiation of violence pledge membership card) and replaced with a Republican Lite Agenda (as told to me by an ex-candidate for PA governor). So maybe things are different enough, since I've been heavily involved, to make this thing a reality.
I mean, we've got Democrats and Republicans. The Republicans, in many ways at one point, represented the rhetoric of small, decentralized government. Bush has given away the store to the Chinese (and where's bin Laden?), expanded government like he was doing an LBJ impression, tapped our phones, set up a network of gulags, and instituted massive new entitlements to further enslave my progeny. I guess the deaths of millions of service men in the fight of international communism was for nothing since everything we fought against, and defeated, still seems to keep coming at us at home. And now our military is exhausted, stretched thin and unable to defend our borders. We go hat in hand to the communist Chinese to obtain loans to run this collapsing government and cartel dominated fiat banking system. And the Republican Party has morphed into... the Democratic Party. We've got a multi-lateralist internationalist war-mongering welfare state party vs. a uni-laterialist internationalist war-mongering welfare state party.
Isn't democracy wonderful?
Anyone know anything about this? I'll post more if I find out more.

I heard that ....
I heard that John Edwards was also considering seeking the libertarian party nomination ... Should be an exciting race ...

The other candidates went to
The other candidates went to Washington, and Washington changed them. It didn't change Ron Paul. Ron Paul's goal is to change Washington, and that includes Mick Huckebee.

Haha!
Not with his tax voting record!
'Fraid not, Huck!
Also, I thought the LP was going to extend the invitation to Dr. Paul to run on their ticket. I also thought that they had their party on nearly half the state's ballots already.
I think it's a great rumor,lol
It is probably a joke, but a great rumor. Wait till his supporters catch wind of it.

The LP has no interest in Huckabee
Oh, come on: I'll be a delegate at the LP convention and there isn't any way Huckabee will be considered. The only uncertainty right now is whether Dr. Paul's intentions will change between now and May: he won't be nominated if he makes clear he doesn't want to be and he almost certainly will be nominated if he is open to it. If he still doesn't want to be considered, we'll nominate another standard bearer to represent the pure libertarian viewpoint.
There is no question that the LP might bend a little for someone whose overall value to the cause of liberty outweighs minor disagreements with our platform (as was the case for Dr. Paul in 1988 and would be in 2008), but that is very different from expecting the LP to burn its principles completely, as it would be nominating a clear non-libertarian such as Huckabee.
Most of us in the LP have been very supportive of the Paul campaign: he has been a friend of liberty his whole life, and has not let his disagreements keep him from actively supporting and promoting pure libertarian projects (Paul wrote the foreword to Harry Browne's book of libertarian soundbites: LIBERTY FROM A-Z, and gave a rave review on the back cover of Mary Ruwart's fabulous introduction to libertarianism and elaboration of how it would apply to today's issues, HEALING OUR WORLD). At LP meetings, you'll see many people call themselves "Ron Paul Republicans" to refer to their having reregistered Republican solely to vote for Paul before planning to return to the LP.
Please show respect for some of the biggest supporters of the Paul campaign. We're not stupid enough to confuse Paul's abolition of the income tax with Huckabee's replacement of the income tax with a national consumption tax. We know who is a friend of liberty and who is not.
Indeed, if this is a McCain-Clinton race after September and Dr. Paul decides simply to run for his current House seat, I would be very surprised if he didn't endorse the LP candidate for president. He ALSO knows who is a friend of liberty and who is not.
Are you and cdwimer related??????
Witmer is so worried about Paul supporters not being civil-THIS IS A REVEOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO AWAY YOU PUKE!!!!! OR IS IT MITT OR MCINSANE????????????
Get some sleep

Huckabee has slammed PAul for being a Libertarian
On several occasions during the campaign, Schmuckabee has dismissed Ron Paul because "he is a libertarian."
Huckabee is no libertarian. He is a progressive who plays lip service to Jefferson and the tenth amendment but is about as conservative and libertarian as Ted Kennedy.

Joke
Yea that can't be real. And if it is, the Huckster is wasting his time because of his stance on certain issues including the war. I really can't imagine the libertarians taking him in, and if he flip flopped enough to be nominated by them, yea... haha.
(S) Mike Huckabee vs (L) Ron Paul
A lot of libertarians don't think Ron Paul conforms enough to their principles, never mind Mike Huckabee. The man is a statist.
I have voted Libertarian since I could vote in 1988, and have every intention of voting Libertarian again should Ron Paul not on the ballot. I have no worry that Mike Huckabee will have an (L) next to his name when I'm in the voting booth this November.
Not a chance
Even the Libertarian Reform Caucus would find him unacceptable. Nor can I see the Constitution Party nominating him--most of them already support RP, plus they have their own candidates they could choose from.
Where do you get this stuff?
Huck is going to pass up a chance to be McCain's VP so he can run as a Libertarian and get ignored and shut out of the debates?
It must be fun to sit around the dorm room thinking up this nonsense.
Did you forget about Rudy? or Jeb?
Hucks in the back of the line for picks, he knows he's got less of a chance to be a VP for McCain because Rudy is stumping for him now and there's always Jeb Bush with his fat head.
I'm almost sure Libertarians
I'm almost sure Libertarians already got a nominee. Saw it last night along with a list of other below the radar candidates.

Check this site out. Colberts on it. It's hilarious.
"But, indeed, no private person has a right to complain, by suit in court, on the ground of a breach of the Constitution. The Constitution it is true, is a compact, but he is not a party to it."
No nominee for LP yet, and about a dozen candidates
But Huckabee will never be accepted by the LP, he doesn't meet the party requirements, and his religious whackoism makes him a non-starter in the LP. He would need 5% on the nomination ballots to saty on, and that probably will not happen. And I sure as hell wouldn't vote for him for anything!
The CP? Hard to say.
The LP selects its nominee Memorial Day weekend in Denver. Don't fret the ongoing platform controversy as it is basically meaningless since nobody follows it much of anyway, nobody outside the LP reads it, and ask 10 libertarians about it and you'll get 400 interpretations.
