Federal Bill Gets Majority Vote in House But That's Not Enough

More than ten thousand people from across the United States came to the TrueVote site to urge passage of a federal bill requiring a voter-verified paper record and mandatory audits. The bill, HR 5036, received 57% of the vote last Tuesday, including 16 Republicans, but needed a two-thirds majority to pass.

HR 5036 received 239 votes of support and 178 votes in opposition. The Democrats brought the bill to the House Floor in a way that did not allow amendments and therefore the bill required two-thirds support. The Democrats did not want to vote on amendments raising issues like Voter ID requirements. It is possible, but unlikely that the Democrats will allow the bill to go forward and take the risk of unfriendly amendments.

TrueVote.US, will continue to build its base especially in strategic districts nationally to support HR5036 and other efforts to restore meaningful elections.

At the federal level we will need overwhelming grass roots pressure to end touch screen voting and restore a paper-based system that allows an audit and recount of the voter's intent.

We will also push to improve HR 5036 -- TrueVote.US opposes an amendment that allowed funding for touch screen systems to get a paper add-on (an wasteful investment of tax dollars on a flawed voting system) -- and to bring the bill up for vote as soon as possible.

But from the beginning I was posting on this topic 40+ months ago and the post would always die.It just does not matter who wins what if old style paper ballots are not reinstated before the convention and before the General Election.

I heard it briefly somewhere that all they need to do is give it the ok. It costs money though and NJ is pretty much broke too. We don't have DieBold in my town. But it does give a computer read out.

The old style punch out the little square where you line up the slide arrow and push the handle down to perforate the ballot card that has numbered tear off receipt is the only way we can go, no concessions on this.

All ballots MUST be hand counted at the polling place. No moving them to a "secure location" to count them.The count starts right after the polls close and no one goes home until it's finished, this is our duty even if it takes all night. This is how We The People did this in our very near past and it worked fine. Precinct by Precinct The MSM is declaring winners in the primarys by entrance polls and we need to put a stop to this nonsense.

I agree. This is the first step to a real election. It is also the only hope for Dr. Paul. The second step would be a 100% exit Poll. But really, this is the thing that absolutely must, must, must be done.

Yes, get the 50 states up and the contact information for each state. Thomas, if you cannot head it up and stay after it, then keep this post coming until the person who will do it is on board.

1. we need to get a website up listing contact info for all the 50 states for the governor's office.
2. since county clerks not in favor of paper ballots, maybe we need to pressure them too. netronline.com has contact info for county offices in all states.
3. email, phone, fax the hell out of them requesting paper ballots.
4. each meetup will do their state

Shameless Bump There is way too much mindless chaff on this board and this besides doing what we have been doing (canvassing, slimlims, donating ect) IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE get with it people. How are we going to organize this? Do we need a website to coordinate all 50 States to pressure State Govs. to do this? How do we formulate a concise plan of attack? Can we get Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter to endorse this or help us?
