Maine is a SUCCESS

OK, so I decided to post this as a new thread because I am very frustrated at all the HATE that some of you guys are throwing at the RP campaign regarding the Maine Caucus results.

You all expected a big win and when you look at the results on yahoo or cnn you think HQ really screwed it up but you are wrong.

The MSM is reporting the results of a NON-BINDING straw poll and they are using those results to GUESS at the number of delegates that each candidate will get. What you need to know is that TWO things happen at the Maine Caucus.

1) A straw poll is taken. All the Republicans in town get together and cast a ballot. This is what the media reports.

2) Delegates are elected to the State Convention held in May.

Yahoo and CNN are only GUESSING on the number of delegates to the State Convention in May for each candidate. They are taking the straw poll results and ASSUMING that the delegates to the state convention will reflect this breakdown.
HOWEVER, the delegates are not bound by the straw poll results. You may have a case where Town X voted 90% for Romney but all of the delegates from Town X are RP supporters. I know for a fact that in one town RP got 40% of the straw poll vote but 85% of the delegates.

PLEASE DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED BY THE FAKE DELEGATE COUNT THAT THE MSM PUBLISHES. There is no way for the MSM to know the # of delegates supporting each candidate because delegates do not state their preference until the State Convention in May. PLEASE DO NOT GET ANGRY AT THE RP CAMPAIGN STAFF. They did a great job in Maine because they understand how the Maine system works.

Just wanted to add a little Post Script here...
Thank you to all the RP supporters from around the States who sent good wishes to us here in Maine. There are still some towns that caucus tomorrow and I hope for the best there. We were very lucky to have Dr. Paul come and visit us last week and get us fired up before the caucus. HQ did a great job. I got phone calls leading up to the caucus to encourage me to show up. Also received a nice mailer a couple days before the caucus. The State Coordinator in Maine, Ken Lindell, showed up at the caucus and gave a fantastic speech (best by far on behalf of any candidate). The precinct leaders handed out a nice piece of literature that contrasted Dr. Paul's record with that of the other candidates. I think everyone did an excellent job. I would like to ask that anyone who still has a primary or caucus coming up, PLEASE just try to get one or two people to come with you! If everyone does this it will double or triple the vote total for RP. Also, become a delegate to your state convention (especially in states like Maine and Colorado). That is how we will win the nomination.

Other precincts?

any update from today?

Will we ever find out how

Will we ever find out how the other 32% of the precints voted?

Well, how the heck are we supposed to know?

All of these caucuses are confusing as all get out!~ and I don't trust the State GOP officials as far as I could throw them. They're being strongarmed to deliver against Ron Paul

Results from York Maine caucus today

Here's the run down.

presidential preference straw poll

Romney - 42
Mccain - 22
Paul -14
Huckabee - 1
Undecided - 1

Here is what I found interesting.

1. no ID"S checked
2. some people did not have to sign in others did
3 During the informational portion. Mccain had 2 supporters speak on his behalf, 2 others tried to speak negatively about Mccain and were shut down. Ron Paul had 5 people speak and others wanted to but they cut the time off. Romney had no one speak intitially, then when no one would speak, 2 people spoke because they said they felt they had to since no one else would.
4. It seems as though all 14 people (my wife and I included) who voted for Dr. Paul also became delegates. So I believe we got 14 out of 25 delegates to the state convention.

So the guy who gets almost half the votes can't even get a supporter speak on his behalf.

Also Ron Paul was the only candidate that had an official campaign presence there. I was also told by a caucus goer that my speech convinced him to vote for Ron Paul so I at least feel my time was well spent

This is EXACTLY why Maine was a SUCCESS

Ron Paul WON that caucus location - he received over half the delegates

This happened allover Maine. You will not hear the media report it because we are not "bound". Oh I guarantee you that the RP supporters are indeed bound. lol

Ron Paul 2008

Great News!

This is GREAT NEWS!!

A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for James Madison.

Another great story

I love RP supporters - we are the little doers - chipping slowly away at the elite - person by person - vote by vote!

how do you know this?

considering there many sides to this story, I don't know what to believe. Is there a link backing up your point and how come there is no comment from Ron Paul's web site about this?

Repeal the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and the 16th amendment - sound money for our communities and out of Washington, DC.

Monroe, NY

Maine meetups had excellent organization

and everyone is reporting back their individual precinct numbers

in my town we got 42% of the delegates despite only receiving 22% (2nd place) finish in popular votes

Ron Paul 2008

Also, everyone needs to think about...

The best way to use your delegates to create a brokered convention, if Mcain is leading by a lot then you would swing your votes towards romney and vise versa. We can create the brokered convention as long as we play it smart.

I agree. Ron's no dummy.

I agree. Ron's no dummy. He has been doing this for a long time and so long as he has some money in the bank he can keep doing this. The key to the whole issue is a brokered convention. I can understand some peoples dissappointment, but one must have faith in Ron and the Cause.

Think about Washington at Valley Forge in defeat, his soldiers starving and freezing to death.

Don't give up, Ron knows what he is doing.

Stealth campaign - brilliant strategy

I don't know if y'all read it, but there was a post on here a while back from a former campaign staffer for Dr Paul who said that we're entering phase two of the campaign? This is what they were talking about. The other candidates are campaigning on a traditional platform of getting their smiling, waving selves up on people's TVs so they can shmooze their way to the nomination. What's happening with our campaign is ingenious, IMHO. We're quietly building an army of dedicated supporters on the ground - primarily through the precinct captains scheme and other things of that ilk - which is yielding genuine support at the level required to become a genuine force at a brokered convention. We have more delegates than Huckabee, by the sound of things, but we don't want to go trumpeting it from the rooftops because at the moment the frontrunners are attacking each other and that is great for our guy. He can stand off to one side, deliver a message that makes him stand out from that crowd, make them look like the squabbling schoolboys that they are and quietly build enough genuine support to swing the nomination come RNC time.

This is founded on his supporters keeping faith though, no matter what is arrayed against them. It is a campaign of We The People, not one man. I hope that we have enough thick skinned supporters out there to do that - and I believe we do. If we can fill the precinct captains program with enthusiastic bodies and the campaign continues to pick up delegates where the other candidates are relying on their fair weather suporters to make a commitment that requires far more than fair-weather support, then I really believe that we can win this nomination.

If we do, it will be the most remarkable presidential campaign I've ever seen or heard of, and it means that once the nomiation is secured, we will have a network of precinct leaders ALREADY IN PLACE who know their areas, know their target audience and are ready to mobilise en masse at the drop of a hat. No presidential candidate in history has had that. If we get the nomination, we'll win the presidency. And I do mean WE. This movement has single handedly restored my faith in people - and it had been severely lacking, believe me. I'm proud to stand beside you all.

Stay strong and keep the faith.

great post

Keep the faith. It's all we have after all. If we lose they will usher in the NAU, REAL ID, Amero, and other nasty stuff. So it's Ron Paul or nothing for me.

Thick skin is in.

I am so grateful for posts like this one. Seeing as how I first voted for Ron Paul in 1984, I must admit to being very impressed with his current presidential bid. He has come quite a long way even in the last year. Keeping this revolution in perspective is difficult, but I am already blown away by the support that this lone congressman from Texas has garnered in just 12 months time. I can still recall the euphoria I felt when he announced the forming of his presidential exploratory committee, but that was nothing compared to the day he announced his candidacy...and after having done so in such a classy fashion, too. Dr. Paul gets his enthusiasm from us, he has said so on several occasions. I get my enthusiasm from Dr. Paul and from posts like this one.

Wake Up

We need a win, a no SH**&T win on Super Tuesday or Ron Paul the Republican will have to become Ron Paul the independent.

Cold Hard Facts!

KT

KT

Cold Hard Facts

Ron Paul does need to win ... delegates. And the Delegates need to win State conventions; 5 of them to be precise. That's all. After that he just needs to keep winning the hearts of delegates. Those hearts will vote come the second and third ballot rounds in the national convention. I've seen this plenty of times in the LP conventions; it works as long as it's a close race between the front runners, and the vote is too close on the first ballot round.

So, perspective here:

#1: Win 5 state conventions to get into the national convention
#2: Win the hearts of the delegates so that, when the others are free to vote as they please on the second round, that they vote for Ron Paul

For any spies on here. Good luck trying to stop us and remember every word. I won't be repeating this again.

Maine turn out to vote

catsome of portland, ME
Feb 3, 2008 11:49 AM
OK ONLY 170 people show up in Portland a city of 64,000. ( I'd say "liberal leaning" didn't have MUCH impact)

ONLY 250 show up for the whole COUNTY of kennebec--- population 100,000(?)

4,556 show up for the whole state-- population 1.25 million. granted 69% of attendees -- but that would still ONLY make the total an estimated and pathetic 6,000 turn out.

I'd say no matter WHAT candidate they choose the R party is in deep trouble in Maine...the only thing the R's do better then the D's is PR, spin and manipulting the press ..."vocal minority

so true

When I was going through the 700 pages of phone numbers in my town, there were like 7 Democrats to 1 Republican.

I think the Republican party is in deep trouble everywhere. Just look at the voter turn out for each side thus far.

Ron Paul 2008

Ron Beat John in NV by over 400 votes, 32% TO GO!

We can still get this one.

After Tuesday it's all about us.

Thank you for this information

it is comforting. Also, I now believe even more important than winning will be how many people have been awaken to the crisis that is happening under their noses. When things get dicey we want them aware of what is going on.

Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.

someone please explain...

Ok, so we've heard that despite the numbers in Louisiana, Nevada and Maine that it's the delegates that count and I agree. But WHEN will we find out how many delegates we really have in those states?? I keep hearing May is when these state conventions happen...will will really have to wait that long? HQ HAS to to have an idea what the total is.

Loose Lips Sink Ships

Why would HQ tell the opposition that we have them beat before we have it locked up?

I'm not saying it's true or false, but you have to know that all the delegates will be lobbied hard to change their support one way or another, and if we reveal our numbers, that won't help.

Further, nobody likes a candidate who assumes they own one's vote. Nothing could be worse than a candidate saying they won, and having the delegates resent it.

Patience. Ron Paul for the long haul.

if only

I could digg you up!

We're not on a boat, we're flying.

In other words, our momentum will carry us past their firewall.

Maine is a Success!!!

Delegates are what counts.

they are correct.

in Nv, in my precinct we had 8 delegates up for grabs.

we(RP supporters) got 7 of them.. but 21(out of 33) people voted for Romney.

They thought the vote would get the delegates. that's how most of these caucuses are going.

Just to let you know.

I am one of those delegates. ;)

Now THAT cheers me up!

Thanx!

Way to go.
