To anyone who talks of a 3rd party run
Submitted by GovtPigII on Sun, 02/03/2008 - 13:44I know a lot of people would like a 3rd party run by Dr. Paul if he does not do well on Super Tuesday. In Dr. Paul's own words he has stated that he would continue this course as long as everyone supported him. Well one would have to assume that he means if I ask for 8.4 million by Feb 5th and they give it to me then that means they believe in me and support me, if they fail to reach this goal then who knows.
I am only speculating but I do not feel the support is strong enough, if people really believed in Dr Paul we would have already been at 8.4 million on Feb 1st.

yeah, but....
the supporters aren't that foolish with their money either. As Ron Paul's chances fade, so will the generosity of his supporters. That's why the money bomb totals are going down each time. If Dr. Paul had a better showing in the primaries and caucuses thus far, I'm certain that the supporters would be filling up the campaign coffers in record amounts as we speak. The GOP has provided Dr. Paul with a good platform for his message and good exposure to the masses. Yet, it is obvious to me that the GOP does not want him, as he had been treated as an outcast from the get-go. Therefore, a 3rd party run should be in order....as it is more conducive to a candidate like Dr. Paul in the long term.
On a positive note: I think that the mainstream voters are just starting to awaken and warm up to Dr. Paul. I was @ a dinner last night with a bunch of people (mostly cops and firemen).....and we talked about the elections. Everyone agreed that Ron Paul is the best candidate!!! Just a few weeks ago, some of those same people didn't even know who Dr. Paul was!!
So, it's a bit late...yes. But, in a 3rd party scenario.......we might have a good shot, as momentum is picking up rapidly!! The biggest problem would be getting ballot access in all states though, but it's do-able in Dr. Paul's case...cause we'll demand it !!!

Instead of a 3rd party run,
the campaign ought to consider a write-in effort. In Michigan, and maybe other states, write ins are not counted unless somehow formally pre-registered or whatever.
A write-in of Ron Paul in the general election would maintain our unity.

Legality
Do the sore-loser laws in states such as Texas apply to write-in candidates as well as third party candidates?
I know that if Paul goes third party, he would ironically be barred from running in another party in his own home state.
Someone suggested that Paul could have surrogates run in states like those however, and the delagates won would eventually go to him anyway.
That said, I also think a lot of people would support a write-in effort.
Point well taken.

a lot of people are maxed out
If he were to go 3rd party, all the maxed out folks could start giving again.
Here! Hear!
I tried to say that two days ago during the "bomb." It seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. BTW, I maxed out on the last "bomb."
