What to do with the generation of me, me and me 60-70
Submitted by Susan on Sun, 02/03/2008 - 16:10
I certainly wouldn't characterize the entire generation this way but, some people I've tried to talk with in that group think Hillary is the best choice because they will get more and social security will be safe and she will end the war.
Any advice?

Hillary will not end the war
Hillary will not end the war and actually panders to the stay-the-coursers as if she can't make up her own mind... because she's not. Has a history of finacial scandals that spring up like mushrooms. Bills administration ransacked the trustfund to balance the budget. That doesn't really scream, "I'll save social security".
"But, indeed, no private person has a right to complain, by suit in court, on the ground of a breach of the Constitution. The Constitution it is true, is a compact, but he is not a party to it."
And How Old Is Dr. Paul?
If any generation is "me, me, me" it's this latest one. I have been listening to the same ditty on TV over and over lately - "I want it all, I want it all, I want it all...and I want it NOW!" Or the ubiquitous T-shirts kids are wearing nowadays - "It's All About Me!"
Hate to tell you, dude, but I'm 61, worked my entire life (from the age of 14), and retired from my last firm after 24 years of continuous service. What I have now I deserve. When all of you "kids" out there put in a lifetime of work, instead of thinking that everything should be given to you, then come back and talk to me.
We "seniors" want what we have worked for our entire lives, what is rightfully ours, and no more. Come and see us when YOU have paid YOUR dues. And talk to Dr. Paul about his last birthday, or his 51st wedding anniversary.
Now let's get back to electing Ron Paul as our next President, and stop bickering about who is better. And remember: Old age and treachery always overcomes youth and skill!

I can agree on the current
I can agree on the current youth being more of the "It's all about me" group than the 60+ crowd.
But try to argue against this one:
It is YOUR generation that had it's chance to fix social security for decades, and didn't.
It is YOUR generation that had it's chance to fix the economic problems we have now, and didn't.
It is YOUR generation that puffs out it's chest and declares itself superior to all others because you've been here longer.
Got news for ya.. we're living in YOUR mess. The youth of America didn't cause the escalating problems of the last four decades - they weren't even alive while it was happening, and if they were, they weren't old enough to vote.
If you want what is rightfully yours, grow some nuts and TAKE IT, by voting for someone who is of your age group who can fix it - so those of us who are younger aren't left with the burdens of your mistakes.
Ron Paul is your last chance at redemption. Do you think the next couple of generations are going to say "We were ten years old, and couldn't vote for the man who could have fixed this mess.. but it's still our fault"?
At least.. that's an argument I used on my own parents and it worked.
(Mom did kinda slap at me when I said 'nuts' though)
Hugs for saying that!
Having started to work at 16 (13 actually under the table til 16, that's nearly 30 years of paying into social security with no hope of ever getting any of it. My age group was the first to be forced into 401K's with no standard pension benefits offset it continually losing money. And now we all must live it. I can't agree about the kids today either, they really seem to be up on things and want to try and fix it. I can't say that about any other generation.
EDUCATION FOR HILLARY SUPPORTERS
Tell the Hillary supporters to check out http://www.apaulogist.com. In addition to a very concise case for Paul, there is an entire section devoted to other candidates and why they suck.
And- I noticed that Hillary has the most complaints!
Tell everyone you know about this site, it's helped me to sway a lot of people without lifting a finger.
Great Site
Thank-you
Older people
Trust the TV because it told the truth when they were younger. Now that the TV lies, they can't really tell as well. Additionally, they are far less likely to get on the internet and do independent research. Most have probably not even heard of Ron Paul and certainly have heard a biased, poo-pood message. With some interaction with good folks they would likely come around, but many simply have not been touched by Ron Paul's message.

I'm 65 and on SS. But I've
I'm 65 and on SS. But I've always dreamed of a government that would go by the constitution that our founders instituted. I feel like this may be the best and maybe last chance we will have of getting back to the country we can be. I had it pretty good in the fifties, but then by the time I graduated high school, that's when everything began to change. Anyhow, I'm voting Ron Paul all the way. Even if I have to write him in. Before I learned about him, I wasn't going to vote by taking the smell test anymore.
Too old??
Enough! Don't generalize and mark off all older persons as senile, selfish and thinking only of themselves and their next SS check. I am 77 and SS doesn't pay enough to entice me not to think of the future of our country and of my children and grandchildren. Under our present policy my grandsons and maybe my granddaughters will be sent to the ridiculous and misguided war in Iraq or some other war. And what do you mean by what can you do about us? Unless there is a drastic change in the direction our government has taken, my grandchildren will also be paying for your social security and our enormous indebtedness to China and others.
I will only vote for Ron Paul or write him in if necessary. There are unthinking, uncaring persons in all generations not just in minel

It is not about age
although there are a lot of older people who are totally dependent upon the government.
The AARP is a big fear mongering organization, that caters to the uninformed and vunerable.
Don't forget the YOUNG lady at the MTV debate who wanted to know who would help pay for her birth control.
Give-aways are never "free"
Social Security would be safe if we just ended the overseas U.S. empire.
Getting more freebies WILL definitely come at a price. If not in the form of inflation and taxes, it will be something more precious.
Remember, the more liberty you have, the less of a stranglehold big government has on you. The bigger cost of getting "free things" will most likely be a compromise of civil liberties.
Remember, the bigger government is, the more CONTROL they have over you. Is it really worth it? Of course not.
Here are the assaults on the Bill of Rights since 2001.

I hope everyone sends this link out to everyone they know.
I don't believe these things on this list are going to go away if ANY of the mainstream candidates are elected. The powers that be put too much work into this to turn back now. Remember, none of the mainstream candidates, if elected, will be actually running the show.
That's why we call them corporate puppets.
How to talk to older generation.
I am 70 so I have some insight. The older generation is naturally afraid to loose social security, but that's what happening right now, albeit slowly.. Since nobody is going to lend us more money the Feds accelerated printing money (or creating money or "injecting credit") which brings inevitably inflation and drop in value of dollar. The dollar dropped roughly 50% in last 10 years and 12% last year and that also means that everything -GDP and standard of living dropped by same amount if valued in Euro. Do really seniors think because value of homes went up from let's say 100 000 to 150 000 is because the house appreciated? It did not - the dollar is worth less! The government uses "core inflation" which does not include anything which tends to rise like food, energy cost, healthcare cost, veterinary care cost, tuition and many other items as basis for Social Security benefits adjustment. Since "real" inflation runs at least 5% higher than "core" inflation the seniors in 10 years will loose at least 25% of their benefits - if current trend continues. More, if there will be run on dollar because other countries will switch their reserves from dollar to Euro or basket of other currencies. That can happen as early as this year.
There is not one candidate in the race - except Ron Paul who will address this issue by fixing the monetary system, where private bankers owning the Federal Reserve (it's private bank!) are slowly draining Americans of their possessions by issuing more and more worthless money. To vote for Hillary is voting for continuation of the current system and eventual financial demise of USA.
That's Crazy
I am 51 and my husband is 64. I have not talked to one single Hillary supporter in my age group. Some of the dumb sheep that are Democrats are voting for her over Obama but not because they like her; they just like him less. The people you are talking to are probably old hippies that are still Communist at heart. That is not all of us, PLEASE.
Healthnuttie for Ron Paul

I think maybe that's it
I wanted to read all these answers because everything I mail to my mom and aunt falls on deaf ears both of whom are in that age category. My Dad in law, in his mid 70's and his girlfriend are very receptive to voting for the Constitution and it's a really sharp contrast. All three have old fashioned pensions I can only dream of, plus social security. I'm glad to hear something that strikes a chord as to a possibility why they are so steadfastly against even hearing the message.
Screw you! I'm 61 and have been fighting the system…
… since before the majority of you were even born. I supported and voted for Ron Paul in 1988 with his .5% popular vote. You will find just as many young idiots as there are old idiots (in fact, more so). If one had the power to push a button and wipe out everyone collecting social security, it wouldn't change a thing with regards to the elections, vote fraud, media bias or anything else. It is a great gift to be given the power of understanding, common sense and reasoning that so few of us seem to have. Unfortunately, it will take a complete and total economic collapse and a few staged nuclear attacks on American soil before the scales begin to fall from the eyes of the American sheeple.
"It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." Samuel Adams
“Just look at us. Everything is backwards; everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the major media destroy information and religions destroy spirituality”
Most of these people are
Most of these people are lost, lost, lost to any intelligent argument or even whiffs of reality. 90% can't see past their next SS or Medicare payment. After 70 years of mindless, pro-big-government propaganda, they've regressed into infants sucking at the federal teat. Give up on them! Not to be cruel, but they will be dead soon, and thankfully so, taking their blind and sheepish loyalty to government with them.
Give up on these people! Our future, and the future of freedom, lies with the under 40 crowd, who have grown up seeing the obvious lies and failures of government.
"They will be dead soon."
Really smart...really very Ron Paul. Go away.
As I said ....NOT TO BE
As I said ....NOT TO BE CRUEL ..... it was merely a statement of fact. Or do you think that average longevity is suddenly about to jump to 120?
I'd have to agree except we are 43 and 45 respectively....
my neighbor (ron paul supporter) is 42. How about we change that to "under 48" :)
Well, I'm 45 myself, but
Well, I'm 45 myself, but feel that it is those a little younger than me who are the most "awake" to what is really going on in the world. But agreed, it was a blanket generalization ---- my mom is 76, and she is going to vote for Ron Paul, even though she thinks FDR was a "great man" (sigh).
She promised to bomb Iran
Where are they getting this idea that she will end the war?
She also plans to keep sanctions on many other countries.
