Ron Paul Beats McCain in Maine!!!

Primed to Win Over 1/3 of State Delegates (2/4/08)
In the race for delegates, Ron Paul appears to closely trail Romney for first place
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 4, 2008
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – While most reports about this past weekend’s Maine Caucus focused on the purely symbolic presidential preference poll, in the meaningful race to secure delegates to the state convention Ron Paul is primed to finish second with likely 35 percent of the total delegates.
Delegates to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis are elected by the state delegates. Internal results from 10 of 16 counties, including the largest cities of Portland, South Portland, Lewiston, Auburn, Augusta, Waterville, Bangor, and Brewer, show Ron Paul picking up 215 of 608 State Convention delegates so far reported, or 35%.
“Ron Paul’s strong second place finish in Maine, in which he beat John McCain, is proof that this race is far from over,” said Ron Paul campaign manager Lew Moore. “We’ll continue to battle for every delegate in this wide-open race for the Republican nomination.”
In the presidential preference poll, with 70 percent reporting, Ron Paul is in third place just two percentage points behind John McCain. However, the Maine preference poll is purely a beauty contest, and in the actual election of state delegates the so-called “frontrunner” McCain is far behind Ron Paul.

Thanks for a dose of reality.

Colorado You Can Do It!
This is awesome news. Colorado we can do this! I have a lot of my friends tell me I'm wasting my vote. He can't win. Blah Blah Blah. Guess what. None of them will bother to go to the caucuses tomorrow. Ron Paul supporters will be there. I'm working hard to bring 10 tomorrow to vote for me as a delegate. You can do the same. Some precincts won't have anyone who wants to be a delegate. That leaves you unopposed. It doesn't matter if they all want McRomaby in the preference poll. That doesn't count. Delegates matter! BE ONE for freedom!
Also, use Technorati.com to find blogs that mention RP
A lot of these blogs mention RP as an afterthought or to make fun of him. Please comment there as politely as possible but as confidently as possible saying: "we fully intend to take over the Republican Party", My main goal is for the RP Revolution to be taken seriously by most.

I have a question. ...If we
I have a question. ...If we only have 35%of the delegates to the state convention how can we get delegates voted in for the national convention? If Romney has say 51% it seems like his people will just vote in all of their national delagates.
Romney has 51% of the votes
Romney has 51% of the votes which is different than the percent of delegates won.
51%?
Who said Romney got 51% of delegates, thats unlikely.
W00T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is great news!! Great indeed and this should be enough for all the jackasses who still think Huckabee is relevant. Of course the idiotic MSM is going to keep this one under wraps.....
I wish Ron Paul would be more vocal about his winnings, I know he's a humble man but he needs to throw these things in the MSM's face!!!!!!

he's capable of a little bragging...and has to continue to do so
this is NO time to be humble. He can boast! He HAS brought up the fundraising numbers and military donations and that we really think we won LA. He has to act like the he really wants that job, and not just be the whistleblower.
He also has to name names. Instead of saying "one of my colleagues said he wants to be in Iraq for 100 years". Say "Juan McCain"!
Expose that little twerp.
Why haven't the other 30% reported?
Go President Paul!

we actually have till march 20th
to hold caucus in Maine, some still have not done so I am guessing.
They're slowly trickling in...
... and Paul is gaining.

Ron Paul Sweeps Northern Maine Caucuses
Ron Paul Sweeps Northern Maine Caucuses
Fort Fairfield Journal l ,
Texas Congressman Dr. Ron Paul scored a stunning upset win over all three of his opponents in the Aroostook County Presidential Preference Survey during the weekend caucuses just concluded. It also would appear that Dr. Paul's supporters won the lion's share of the delegate seats to the Maine Republican Convention in early May from the county.
There were 3 undecided voters in Aroostook County with regard to the presidential preference. This vote is a non-binding survey merely intended to indicate Maine Republicans' preference for President. Delegates were also selected for many towns to the Republican State Convention.
Aroostook County volunteer coordinator of the Ron Paul 2008 effort, and Vice-chairman of the county Republicans, Steve Martin of Amity, had this to say about the upset results. "I love Aroostook County people. They are the most independent-minded and deeply-considerate folks in Maine. It is clear that Dr. Paul's message of reduced government, lower taxes, personal liberties and non-interference in the internal matters of other nations struck a cord here in Aroostook County. Dr. Paul's opposition to a Northern Maine National Park coupled with his deep respect for private property and gun rights also played a part in sweeping all three caucus locations."
The county Republicans will be meeting again for their regular monthly meetings at the Presque Isle Inn & Convention Center on Saturday morning, February 16th at 9:00 AM.
With all Aroostook towns reporting, the results were as follows for Aroostook's 3 caucus locations:
Fort Kent:
Ron Paul 3
Mitt Romney 2
Mike Huckabee 2
John McCain 1
Houlton:
Ron Paul 16
Mitt Romney 11
Mike Huckabee 8
John McCain 4
Presque Isle:
Ron Paul 29
Mitt Romney 27
John McCain 17
Mike Huckabee 16
Aroostook County totals with percentages:
Ron Paul: 48 votes 34.5%
Mitt Romney 40 votes 28.8%
Mike Huckabee 26 votes 18.7%
John McCain 22 votes 15.8%
Undecided 3 votes 2.1%

Re. Delegate count
Shovelhead, thanks for the explanation on delegate counts. However, based on your explanation, it really doesn't matter how many votes a particular candidate gets in determining how many delegates he receives. Is it true that the number of delegates that a candidate gets to go to the state convention is just a function of who is willing to go? Is this true?
Thank you
Hi GM,
I believe that delegate counts are assigned to each town based on the population percentage of each town versus the state population. In our case, our town may put forward up to 9 delegates. However, only 4 people were willing (3 of us were RP fans). So yes, up to the limit allowed for your town, the number of delegates that a candidate gets to go to the convention is just a function of how many are willing to go. The delegates must, however, be elected by those present at the caucus although no one is required to state who they would vote for before being elected a delegate.
The "votes" have no part of the delegate process, and are just there as an informal poll. So you are correct in stating that it doesn't matter how many votes a particular candidate receives in determining how many delegates he receives.

Paul took 42% of my town delegates
Basically, the Romniacs, Hucksters, and McCainians were about as excited to become delegates as they are to donate to their campaigns.
Ron Paul supporters signed up as delegates in huge numbers. A lot of us were first time caucus goers. It appeared to me that there would have been fewer Romney/McCain/Huck delegates had they not saw the Ron Paul peeps keep signing up. We kinda stood out, we were mostly younger. I noticed some of the old folk watching us closely and reluctantly nominating themselves as delegates as Ron Paul peeps continued to nominate each other.

Please Clarify Important point.
Do you mean that the other (folk) signed up to competing candidates because you overwhelmed them or did they sign up to Ron Paul?
Any evidence that folk are encouraged by your overt presence or upset by it?
Are you saying you should tone it down or up it with the RP display?
Thank you. :)

I believe some would not have been delegates
the best I could describe it was like at an auction...
A Paullite would sign up, then someone for another candidate would sign up. It kind of just kept going. But delegate willing Ron Paul peeps out numbered other candidate delegate willing peeps. This also helped encourage some reluctants among the Ron Paul people to step up.
I don't think they were encouraged by our presence. We weren't very overt, we were pretty low key but clearly visible. At least not most. Some Mitt Romney older folks came up to me afterwards and applauded my efforts and my speech. That made me feel good. But it was definitely a competition type feeling ... not a all warm and fuzzy community Republican party meeting.
