STOP CALLING MAINE GOP - FROM CAMPAIGN HQ
Dear grassroots Ron Paul supporters:
It has come to my attention that the Maine State Republican party is being flooded with calls from around the country, complaining about the results of the presidential preference poll conducted at the caucuses held around Maine last weekend. I am asking all of you to PLEASE STOP these calls and e-mails. They are hurting the Maine Ron Paul campaign and are mostly without merit.
Here are the important facts that you need to know:
· We have independently verified that Ron Paul came in a close third in the Presidential preference poll with about 18% of the vote. There is no significant discrepancy between the numbers reported by the Maine GOP and those reported by our precinct leaders.
· Nobody is sitting on any results. The reason that only 70% of precincts are reporting is that the law allows each municipality to schedule its own caucus up until March 20th of every even numbered year. Those municipalities that have not reported have not caucused yet, and might not do so at all. Since all of the big cities and towns have already caucused, the 30% that have not represent less than 10% of the potential vote.
· Ron Paul did very well in Maine, and our campaign has been treated very fairly by the Republican establishment in Maine. Ron Paul’s vote total in the preference poll was the highest we have seen in any caucus or primary so far. We also picked up many delegates. We estimate that we came in well above John McCain in the delegate count.
Please stop calling and e-mailing the Maine Republican Party. The Maine GOP has a small number of staff and they have been very fair with us. We need to maintain good relations with the party staff and leadership going into the State convention on May 2nd if we want to have a chance to elect Ron Paul delegates to the national Republican convention. Rude and disrespectful calls from Paul supporters are a reflection on the Paul campaign and they damage our chance to build on the hard work we did in Maine to win delegates at the caucuses.

Folks - for all those of you who are being pig headed and insist that people keep calling it is YOU who this posting was intended for.
HQ is asking you to STOP. You are making the situation WORSE - NOT BETTER.
People are being RUDE and obnoxious. PLEASE STOP.
Most of the people in this country don't have clue one of how this process works or what is involved. This is clearly evidenced by everyone who thinks this is a "primary" where people vote for president and then the winner goes on. THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS IS ABOUT. This is about DELEGATE selection to STATE conventions. GET IT YET????? The MSM WANTS you to believe this is a presidential nominating election - IT IS NOT.
Let the people on the ground in Maine handle Maine. If they need your support they will ask for it.

The problem is a large number of supporters are convinced that the world is one big conspiracy against Paul. Therefore when things don't go their way they reflexively assume the worst, like vote fraud, coverups, etc, and start calling and emailing people threatening them with legal action, ranting about revolution, threats of physical harm, etc.

yes, it would be helpful, but that doesn't excuse
anyone who is making threatening, rude and disrespectful phone calls. I'd rather such people just leave the campaign.

You people dont understand the difference between Delegate count and popular vote. He got 3rd in popular vote and 2nd in delegate vote.

Basically what she said was
1) Her town caucused with about 14 people.
2) 4 people volunteered to be delegates. 3 were RP people.
3) All were nominated in her town to go to the state convention to vote in a primary (I believe in May).
4) So the results were that Ron got 75% of the delegates in her town.
After the caucus they had a presidential preference (straw) poll. The results of this poll were (I can't remember exactly but we'll say):
Romney 7
Paul 3
McCain 0
Huckabee 2
Undecided 2
The delegates are not bound by this at all. They are free to vote as they choose in the state primary in May. This poll was "the beauty contest" but it wasn't important. What is important is that (our) the delegates go to the state convention and vote for a candidate, and you know who the 3 will vote for. And who knows by May the other one might change their candidate for RP too!
I hope this makes sense. I haven't slept yet tonight so my brain is a bit loopy.

You have to right to vote in a scheduled caucus and then that vote may be cancelled because "it won't matter?"
Sorry, being denied your RIGHT to vote is caging, pure and simple.
I'm going by the HQ statement which says that some areas just may not do their scheduled caucuses. That's something to get mad about.

Always Seek Information From Our People In-the-know, First
You have to trust the people in the campaign in the area affected to be on the front lines and wait for them to call for help. Otherwise you may do more harm than good.
I always trust that the local groups are on top of things, and would approach them first to offer help, rather than try to do an end run over something that may not really be a problem.
We need allies, and failing that, we need not to have enemies within the system.
