Anyone else get harrassed at the polls?

Hi everyone,
Took half a day off today in upstate NY to go vote and hand out
literature for RP.
Voting went fine and I saw Steve (our meetup leader)
there as an official Republican
observer. Went outside, what I thought was the
required 100 ft. away (even saw a sign on a pole to
that effect) from the entrance and
started handing out the "Win one for the Gipper(Ronald
Reagan)" lit for RP.
Not even 5 minutes later, the priest at the
church(the voting station) comes out,
shakes my hand and sternly admonishes me that he does
not want me there. I answer that I have every right,
I'm outside the 100 ft zone, I have the law printed
out, and I will show it to the police if necessary. He
becomes more agitated, tells me that he even likes my
candidate, but that he knows the law and he is asking
me to leave anyway on "moral" ground because this is
church property, and his parishoners are complaining.
I tell him that I'm not bothering parishoners, just
asking anyone if they're voting Republican. He also
says that "you people" violated church property before
by putting RP lit on parishoner's windshields. We go
round and round over the same issues several
times...I'm not willing to budge and he gets even more
agitated. Finally I say: look, we're not getting
anywhere, but I have literature to hand out. He tries
to block my path, but I go around him to hand out some
lit. He backs off, but I learn later from Steve that
the parish was ready to call the cops, but he convinced
them that it is legit outside of a 100 feet
radius from the entrance. As a consolation, Steve
comes out with the Democratic observer to tell me
where the 100 foot radius is...not at the pole with
the sign (how was I supposed to know!) but in the
middle of the parking lot! They show me the invisible
line and I'm wondering if I should have listened to my
inner voice telling me that this was a stupid idea and
you're not gonna make a difference anyway. I shake
that thought off and hand out lit for the next hour in
the cold. Best part was Ken from our meetup group
coming to vote with his folks and giving me
encouragement. Next best thing, a guy telling me that
he's for RP already, stops to talk with me and tells
me he feels guilty for not doing more (shoulda signed
him up!) Most challenging was a guy who said RP is too
naive in thinking the terrorists will just go away if
we pull out of Iraq..I tell him you gotta pull them all
out and quit meddling...that Reagan would have pulled
them out..he tells me Reagan woulda kicked a...
Most promising was a friendly guy who asked what would
Reagan have done in Iraq...pull them out just like in
Lebanon, I said. He said they followed us here after
Lebanon...I said that's cause we were still there in
other places...he agrees that it's complicated, but he
likes RP's ideas and he respects my opinion...I felt
he was on the border and probably voted RP.
Well this resistance by the parish made me come back
later in the afternoon for another hour. This time no
hassle..Steve comes out once to check whether I'm
staying behind the invisible line (LOL). Most
satisfying were the attaboys I got from several people
for doing this, especially one woman Democrat from the
League of Women Voters, who was thrilled that people
were voting...I told her my story and she was dismayed
that her parish priest would do this.. she told me
that they're getting paid for this and she would check
into it.
Let's just say that I got my Primary exitement, but
I'm glad that this is America and I can do this for my
kids and grandkids.

My optical scanner did not count my vote

I was voting in danbury at 7 am this morning and I was looking at the count total when I put my ballot in. It did not move from 52. I asked about it and they assured me the machines are good. I crossed over to vote against a tax increase and that one did register my vote

No, but I harrassed them...

After I watched the "counting" machine swallow my ballot today, and probably count me (I'm in AZ) for MacInsane, I loudly announced to the whole room how a 15-year-old kid can hack the thing and the 80-year-old Shriner with an "I voted" sticker on his forehead shoved the door into my backside on my way out.

Gotta love AmeriKa!!

Great job!

Great job!

Private property polling places

They're probably right. Their private property rights trump your right to campaign outside of the 'legal' zone.

Personally, I was shocked when I found out that my own polling place is a retirement home. I had always thought that polling places had to be public facilities like schools, courthouses, PDs or City Halls. Having a polling place at someone's home(s) or church seems VERY biased. The property owner can take down the signs of anyone they dislike and have you arrested (theft) for doing the same.

Attaboy!

Attaboy!
