Please calm down........a brokered convention is what we want and what we will get. No one is dropping out.......All of the glitz of the media and the primaries means SHIT!!!!!!
Read this......

Looks like Huck, McCain, and Romney will be splitting the states....no clear winner......we must stay in it.
so get off your butts and become a delegate!!!!!
»

I love this
Super Tuesday in my opinion was a sign of the times for the GOP establishment, it is in complete disarray. You had Huckabee take the South (this was an obvious outcome), Romney the Mountain States (again, did not surprise me at all), and McCain all the other states (California depends heavily on the military industrial complex, so a no brainer). Granted I was not too happy to see that the "other" in some states had a higher voter turnout than what Paul received. But Paul placed really well in the West, especially my home state of Montana.
Agreed!
I am in Minnesota and last night at my caucus I became a delegate!

We will get a Brokered Convention when Hell Freezes
A Brokered convention? Why would the GOP allow this to come down to a brokered convention? Because Lincoln did it in 1860? Lincoln was what the party wanted in 1860. The party got what it wanted then and will get what it wants now.
Do you people not understand that the GOP is actively against Ron Paul?
Do you think the GOP will not have Romney, McCain, and Huckabee in line before the convention starts? These people will give Americans open borders and the Amero and have them believing they are doing America a favor. They can surely handle a staged convention.
The best thing you can do for the GOP is delay for as long as possible any preparations for a run as an independent/third party.
I disagree
McCain and Romney hate each other, and both are in for the long hall......Huck winning state yesterday also helps because that gives him incentive to stay in. I would be surprised if this convention is not brokered.

The ONLY plausible scenario at this point
Would be if Mitt dropped out and Huckabee (due to finances) dropped out. Otherwise it's going to be VERY hard to "broker" a convention where we have not met basic minimum's in state wins (5 states I believe was the minimum).
I will support Ron, regardless. If he goes third party, if he teams up with someone else, if I have to write in his name on election day, he is the ONLY person getting my vote unless he chooses otherwise.
But at some point we have to become "optimistic pessimists" or in other words "realists" on the chances of a brokered convention with absolutely no "wins" to our credit. I am just being honest, but in this for the longhaul.
Not 5 state wins, but
the majority of delegates in 5 states. Republican National Convention Rule 40, para (b).
Do you have some inside information on how many RP supporters have been elected delegates, or on how many RP DOESN'T have?
In LA I've heard rumor that some of RP's delegates may have mistakenly joned the ProLife-ProFamily slate. Plus there are still 20 delegates up for grabs there. In NV Romney was awarded the most delegates, but of the delegates in NV, do you know how many of them are NOT Romney supporters but instead RP supporters?
Point I'm making is we don't know how many RP delegates there are, and we probably won't know until the Convention. It may be that, even though we've not won a state's popular vote yet, we may already have the majority of delegates in 5 states. This is an unknown.
There are only 2380 people whom decide the GOP nominee, and tehy don't vote until September. The state votes we are seeing now are near meaningless.

How About a "Delegate Letter Bomb"?
If it is true that national delegates to the convention can vote for whomever they want, then why not try to persuade them to support Ron Paul? If there were a way to obtain their names and addresses, we could bombard them with letters. Each delegate could potentially receive thousands of personal letters from Paul supporters explaining why Paul is the only chance the party has of winning against Clinton. The only obstacle would be the rule requiring that the republican party nominee win at least 5 states in the primaries. But we've already seen how the party is quite willing to change the rules at the last minute haven't we?
Not win 5 states,

Delegates? Brokered Convention?
To other commenters: It doesn't matter so much how many delegates Ron Paul " won" ie 10 or 20 or whatever the current number is.
That does not preclude Ron Paul supporters who happen to be delegates (& *may* have to vote for someone else on the 1st round of voting at the convention) from voting for him during the 2nd, 3rd or whatever rounds.
Here are 2 articles that explain this pretty well:

The way it is working, Ron
The way it is working, Ron can end up with many more delegates. Many delegates are uncommitted so far. If they can be talked into Ron we still ave a chance. It depends what happens at county, state, and local conventions, so JOIN your local GOP if you have not, yet. 'Course, after that is the Electoral College, who knows what they would do..
Brokered Convention
Makes me =).
I've been saying this before the campaign came out and hinted at this strategy. This is our best chance. Ron Paul can sway a room with his knowledge of our countries direction and respect for the constitution. Our job is to get enough money to make it to the convention and obtain enough Ron Paul delegates to that convention even if it's to vote for McCain or Romney or Huckabee in the first round. That's why Florida and other primary states are still important! They still have to caucus and choose delegates.
But do I feel jealous for those delegates that get to vote for Ron Paul in the first round at the convention!
Huckabee's job is done after this week, but hopefully he'll stick around a little longer to ensure more splitting of delegates but we'll see. If or when Huckabee leaves the race, his delegates could definitely swing our way.

What are delegates?
I keep seeing the word delegate slung around every 2 seconds on this forum. It's not like someone couldn't know what a delegate is by now. There's a constant barrage of conjecture slurring around everyone's heads about delegates are what really matter. Do we still have to be subjected to the same 20 posts being rehashed every time minutes telling us not to worry it's about the delegates delegates delegates delegates delegates delegates delegates delegates delegates.
OK I get it now.

People forget too quickly
Maybe all of you are new to the revolution, but we had a HUGE push last summer to get people to become delegates. Many reports stated that we had more delegates than anyone else. We WANT a brokered convention. Because we have plenty of delegates that will be able to vote for Ron Paul in that scenario.

Wow.
Keep dreaming. It has a very small possiblity of being brokered, but it will be with HUCKABEE holding the crucial delegates, not Ron Paul. He will be king maker for John McCain. Ron Paul will be lucky to get a shitty speaking spot on the first night. Or not.....he would probably be heckled off the stage at the convention.
I expect all of you brokered convention cheer leaders to come back here a few days from now and admit this war was fought and lost long before most of you joined the discussion.
THEN we can have a constructive discussion about a third party libertarian run that will keep the movement alive until a national general election, give time to educate the masses, and sow the seeds for a revolution four years from now.
I like the enthusiasm, but without a realistic logic guiding the discsussion we continue to flail.
