*Help* Basically should EVERY RP supporter apply to be a delegate?
Submitted by missdavenport on Tue, 02/05/2008 - 22:07
I confess, I am lacking in knowledge on delegates but am counting on someone handing me a quick education.
Let's say every Ron Paul supporter tried to become a delegate. What about the delegates that are already in place and supporting other candidates? We can't just dispose of them right? (not that it's not a tempting thought - heh heh - kidding.)
I mean, each state sends a finite number of delegates. How do we assure that these numbers will favor Dr Paul, when the popular vote has been lower than majority up till now?

Yes, Yes and Yes again
The campaign has been telling us for months to become delegates in our state. Only the delegates will get him elected. So, yes, everyone needs to become a delegate!
Healthnuttie for Ron Paul

The Campaign Website
Has info on each state telling how to become a delegate, but I did see today that the info wasn't correct in one state. Check with your state GOP, but be warned that they aren't very excited about Ron Paul people wanting to join their exclusive club!
I am a respected member of my community, and yet, when I went to a county GOP meeting to promote Ron Paul, I was treated rather rudely. I also contacted a state GOP person, not mentioning RP, but asking how to become a delegate, and the person did their best to discourage me, Basically saying that I had to be "known" by the GOP and campaign to be a delegate. I don't think this is so, I think they are just assuming someone that asks is a RP supporter, and they don't want us!
I think we need to start locally, run to be a precinct committeeperson, and take over their exclusive club!
Yeah, thanks. My sister just
Yeah, thanks. My sister just asked me and I warned her not to mention that she is necessarily in favor of RP (do they make you *swear* allegiance or anything before they consider you?)

Mississippi
In Mississippi the gop delegates are "bound" to the majority candidate of the state vote. I would love to be a delegate. Hell, I've even contacted the state gop since there is no info on a county office. Haven't herad a word from anyone three weeks later.
Yeah GOP is *bound* alright, as in CONSTIPATED.

don't forget history
"In May of 1860, the votes of 233 delegates were required to win the Republican nomination. Abraham Lincoln arrived at that convention starting only with the support of the 22 delegates from Illinois. He went on to win the nomination."
We’ve given you a Constitutional Republic, lets see if you can keep it. --Benjamin Franklin
YEEEESSSSSSS!!!!
Yes-yes-yes-yes-yes-yes- YES!!!! The GOP & msm neglect to tell people that this is what is needed! For some states it is too late. For others - find out & become one right away! That is the best way to support Dr. Paul along with donating!

"For some states it is too late." You mean as in the winner-take-all states that already voted? And some states have all their delegates chosen already, too?

No, as in the deadline is past states
The great thing about a brokered convention is that after the first round of voting when no one has +50% of the delegate votes, the delegates are free to vote for who they want. So, if a Ron Paul supporter is a delegate from Florida, the first round he votes McCain, and after that he votes Ron Paul to the very end. From what I have seen, McCain is winning the popular vote, but he seems to lag in delegates (like Maine where he won 2nd in popularity, but Ron Paul won more committed delegates, which is the whole purpose of the caucus). Sometimes the delegates are on a slate so you know who they support (like Louisiana), but other delegates are chosen just because they volunteered. Montana, for example had slots available that no one filled.
All states have their own rules. In Arizona, the delegates are selected by people with positions within the GOP. If you don't have the position of committee chairman before the end of the previous December, you can't vote toward sending the delegates to the national convention (at least according to my understanding). That is what too late means. In other states, there are still spots waiting to be filled, and the more Ron Paul supporters that have the spots, the greater the surprise in September when his online support suddenly emerges when it really counts.
Romney seems to be the person who is paying more attention to the delegates in caucus states where we think we are winning. If he were to drop out, who knows where they would go? I think Ron Paul is a lot of people's second choice in the west. Mormons are very much pro-Constitution. There is strong support for Ron Paul, but you don't see it because Romney overshadows what is going on. He is much more visible because of his religion and Olympics experience in the West, Whatever happens, don't give up. Our position is so much stronger than what is being reported nationally.
Thanks so much for shedding
