Be of good cheer! (Please read if dejected)

Now that Super Tuesday results are in, many of us may be down in the dumps, dejected, and angry. I have some thoughts to help keep it all in perspective.

I've had my toe in this stuff since 1980 when I heard presidential candidate Ed Clark tell a very small roomful of people, "No one knows better how to run your life than you do." I knew I had finally found a political home.

The grassroots support for the Freedom Message has been unbelievable. I have never in my life witnessed so many folks with such passion and energy and a willingness for fight for Liberty. When I told my wife what I saw happening on the Internet, I added, "Many of them will have their hearts broken." When you know that the message is so right, you are stunned that the majority of our fellow citizens just don't get it.

Please, whether you're new at the game or a seasoned veteran, it behooves you to read Albert Jay Nock's essay "Isaiah's Job." If you've read it before, read it again. It reminds us why we're here, what we're doing, and how to measure our success. Here it is: http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig3/nock3b.html

And finally, with thanks to Brian Doherty for the quote found in his excellent book _Radicals For Capitalism_, here's some sage advice from the great Murray Rothbard: "Quintessentially and metaphysically, [the libertarian] should remain of good cheer. The eventual victory of liberty is inevitable, because only liberty is functional for modern man. There is no need, therefore, for libertarians to thirst maniacally for Instant Action and Instant Victory, and then to fall into bleak despair when that Instant Victory is not forthcoming. Reality, and therefore history, is on our side."

You do good work. I salute you all. Be of Good Cheer!

Ron Paul's Legacy

It would be great to see some of these 569k patriots run for Congress.

Fight On You Patriots

What we say we want means nothing unless we are willing to pay the price to get it.

I look forward to the day when we are not only electing our president but our Sen. and our HR.

Wipe the dust from your face, brush the dirt from your knee and fight on you Patriots.

Freedom

Good article, but consolation doesn’t feed the bulldog

Do you have any idea how much damage can be done between now and 2012? We need to be in the White House NOW. True, our movement received a half million votes, but in 1992 Ross Perot received 19,741,000 (that’s 19% of the popular vote). Sixteen years have passed and where is our government today? Want a revolution? This ain’t it, yall. And don’t blame Fox News too much – when your own party shuns you and acquiesces in the media shunning you by not protesting on your behalf, remaining with them makes you look like a fool to the voters. (And if you want the White House, "the masses" must come around.)

Everyone should be aware that there is, in fact, a third party with the structure already in place who claims to be the largest third party in America (Ballot-Assess News) and is perfectly willing to consider Ron Paul as their nominee – the Constitution Party. They’re a bit too ‘Jerry Falwell-ish’ for my tastes but they have the basic ideas right so I support them. PLEASE read this article, “It’s the Constitution, Stupid!” Go to http://constitutionparty.com/nwews.php?aid=716

At the very bottom of their homepage ( http://www.constitutionparty.com )is a list of candidates. Click on ‘Ron Paul’. The Constitution Party lays their cards on the table:

“The Constitution Party presidential candidate will be selected at its convention in the spring of 2008. We can’t say for sure what will be decided by the convention delegates, but as the party who puts principle above party loyalty, it seems that in the unlikely event that Doctor No is able to capture the Republican nomination, we would stand behind him 100%. The dilemma we have is that we cannot sit around and wait to see what the Republicans are going to do....” “If the Grand Old Party does choose to return to its conservative ideals by supporting Congressman Paul, then there will be ample opportunity to throw our support behind him should our delegates so decide. If he does not win the GOP nomination we will have done much of the work to gain the ballot lines necessary to field a candidate who shares our values and who will govern constitutionally. That candidate could be Ron Paul should he decide to continue his race by seeking the Constitution Party nomination.”

p.s. I’m going to post this in several forums if I can get away with it, so indulge me please.

Our only hope ...

I hope we are not in for another 16 years. We are on the point of fiscal no return. On the bright side, when we really are that broke, Dr. Paul's ideas will be the only real solution, other than leaving the union. Maybe we should all move to one state and try that next. :-)

Thank you

We have had more than 500,000 people endorse us. If 500,000 of us persevere in the goals that we have set, they will be achieved. No one can predict how long it will take. It is certain that by persevering we will be able to bring that day closer and by giving up we will extend our misery.

That's what the free state projects are about

New Hampshire (Free State Project), Free State Wyoming, Montana (Ron got 2nd place there), Alaska, and perhaps a couple of others are places for free people to concentrate. If you are tired of being a tiny minority in a state that is too far gone, try voting with your feet and moving to one of the above.

BTW I second the comments on "Isaiah's Job". This is my all-time favorite essay.

Edit: Woops, this is supposed to be in response to the comment made by dddienst below:
"It is apparent that the principles that founded and made America great are dead or only exits in a 5% remnant. Maybe we should found new America in Antartica or on the moon. Moon base New America."

I just put it in the wrong place.

Why

Why is freedom only found in cold states?

The article is profound

As a student of the Bible and a devout Christian I really appreciated and was inspired by that story. I have thought, all along, that Ron Paul was like the prophets of the Bible preaching to the masses but only a few seem to get it. Now I realize he isn't preaching to them, he is preaching to us, the remnant. I thank God for him and his message and whatever happens we have found more of the remnant through this message.

Healthnuttie for Ron Paul

Healthnut4freedom

Remnants

I loved that article. Must read for all. Thank you for posting this. The seeds are being planted for future generations. My children have learned so much about freedom because of this campaign. They teach their friends and their teachers are simply amazed.

In Good Company

Thank you for this wonderful post and the uplifting essay. We may have not gotten through to the masses, but I find solace in the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of us in the "Remnant" left in the U.S. Even though we are a small part of the population.

I'm pretty happy today,

I'm pretty happy today, despite Ron's poor showing. Why? Because when I voted yesterday, it was the very first time I vote FOR someone I liked and trusted and actually supported. Ever since 1992, I've voted AGAINST Bill Clinton, against Algore, against Kerry, against congresswoman Rosa deLauro, against everyone, because there was nobody I liked or trusted. Ron Paul changed my idea about honourable public servants, and his campaign continues to inspire my dreams for the future. I only hope that Dr. Paul stays in the race all the way to the National Convention and, before the entire GOP and nation, terribly excoriates the party leadership for their appalling lack of principle!

"Cowards & idiots can come along for the ride but they gotta sit in the back seat!"

thank

you, I needed to hear that.

Over 15,000 people know...

I was one of the 15,000 people who voted for Ron Paul in Alabama yesterday.

Even though he did not earn a high percentage of the vote, I am encouraged that there are 15,000 people in my home state who know the truth about freedom, our economy and big government.

This is an amazing step forward.

These people are not going to forget what they have learned, on the contrary, they will continue to spread this knowledge.

No matter what you may think after the results, we are winning.

Do not fade into that good night!

People I ask that you take a breath and look at what is going on. Pay no mind to the media contest. The delegates, that is where it is at! Have faith in Ron Paul.

please read

Hello fellow avid Ron Paul supporters. Although elated about the existence and popularity of the campaign, I am somewhat downtrodden by our media. I am writing a journal article for my college about Ron Paul and the media, in contrast with his grassroots political following. If any of you guys have any stories about campaigning, I would love to hear them, I am looking for stories to put in my piece. Also, I am trying to form a meet up group in New Hampshire, even though the NH primary is over, I feel like the movement is not, so please anyone with great stories about the campaign, frustrations with the media, send me your thoughts to hharrington05@nec.edu
Thanks guys!

Freedom!!!

The Glass

Is yours half empty or half full?

Mine? Well, it is 50% water and 50% air. I need both to exist.

Whatever the outcome of this primary or general election (and I still hold some hope for the convention and platform), we have and will continue to do powerful things. We did not get in this mess overnight and it will take some time to undo it. We must stick together for the long haul and not let this unity erode. This is critical. As new patriots run for office, we need to chip in money to help them get elected. We need to continue to write our local papers and news media. We will prevail, eventually. As the saying goes: Freedom is not free.

All that said, I have learned some important things in this election. Some I have practiced, but now I am more apt to complete. Think about the impact of 561,000 people doing these small things, step by step.

- paying off your debt, including your mortgage
- investing in gold/silver
- having food storage/water
- growing a garden
- having guns/ammo/fishing tackle
- getting off of the grid as much as feasible (solar, generator, etc)

We will be the prepared ones. We will be those who our neighbors come to when people are in bread lines. We will be able to tell them how and why and what we can do about it.

Run for a local office. Do the simple things above, step by step, month by month. You CAN do it.

Thank you Dr. Paul for your inspiration.

I agree

The folks who have just heard of Ron Paul this past year, are surely disappointed at the results .. but for those of us who have been around for awhile, things have never been better.

8 months ago, I never believed that Ron Paul would get even this far. We have come a long way from 1988 when he did not get even 1% of the vote. Now we have possibly other people like Ron Paul getting seats in Congress; and with the growing internet, it is only going to be harder for the media to blackout these libertarian ideas in the future. On CNN last evening, one of the panelists even had the audacity to ask "I wonder where this Ron Paul voter got her information about him." The big government controlled media is losing its grip.

I wish Ron Paul would accept the Libertarian nomination, as he would probably garner a record setting percentage for this party in a national election, which would pretty much prove progress over the years. But in any case, the results this year were AWESOME if you look at the big picture over the past 3 decades.

Dr. Paul has mentioned 'the Remnant' in a recent speech

Thanks for the post! I like the article you referenced. I was somewhat surprised to see it was first posted in 1936...it sounds like it was written last week! It should be read by everyone reading this forum.

My ears perked up while listening to Dr. Paul recently (could have been the WV convention yesterday, I'm not sure) when he acknowledged 'the Remnant' out there. That simple statement re-affirmed my understanding of Dr. Paul's commitment to the cause of liberty.

Dr. Paul's candidacy in the last year has garnered a devout following who can easily be considered the 'Remnant' which resides here. I look at the numbers that Dr. Paul has generated in the last year and I am thoroughly encouraged by the outpouring of support for his message. It does not take a majority to make an impression on our fellow devotees to the message of liberty or those eager to hear that message. Each new adherent to the principles set forth by our founders only strengthens our cause and the inevitable transition this country will be facing in the coming years.

Thank you

"I knew I had finally found a political home."

This happened to me last year. I had been very interested in politics for a while but also realised that I really could not be a good political leader. Now I know that nobody is a good political leader in a socialist system, they're just power hungry idiots.

Sorry...

...it didn't help. Still depressed as the numbers speak for themselves. Guess I should consider myself "lucky" to have the "freedom" to even post this comment. Although potentially my home could be raided for even participating in such an online forum. Is there any shade on the spectrum between the Patriot Act and Martial Law?

JJ

What there is, is a shade of Hope!

What matters is that you get it. Now that you do, do not get down but spread the word. Yep it is depressing to see the truth about how messed up this country is but what is the choice? Its either the truth or to be clueless and happy. The clueless and happy are going to take a hard fall, the people that know the truth can at least try to change the outcome. Keep hope in that our numbers are growing and that we will in the end have a Revolution. The desire for freedom will not end.

I'm sorry that it didn't...

...help. You probably won't like that I also told my wife Ron Paul would only get single digit results. I want him to win, I'd hoped for some isolated areas of success. But I knew what to expect. Every presidential candidate I've ever voted for has gotten sigle digit results. Why? "The mass-man is one who has neither the force of intellect to apprehend the principles issuing in what we know as the humane life, nor the force of character to adhere to those principles steadily and strictly as laws of conduct; and because such people make up the great and overwhelming majority of mankind, they are called collectively the masses. The line of differentiation between the masses and the Remnant is set invariably by quality, not by circumstance. The Remnant are those who by force of intellect are able to apprehend these principles, and by force of character are able, at least measurably, to cleave to them. The masses are those who are unable to do either."

But we are making progress, despite appearances. Taking the long view, freedom is spreading around the world. And it will spread faster - because now the Remnant has the Internet!

Thats why Pentagon is

That's why Pentagon is looking for a treatment for the Internet, I recall I read recently.

If anybody there wants to escape the police state

If somebody is willing to leave US for socialist Finland, I can try to help in the arrangements.

Socialist Finland?

Ron Paul's values basically boil down to individual responsibility a.k.a. individualism. As individuals we have the power to change ourselves and our country. As we make ourselves better we make our country better.

Socialist values boil down to group responsibility and dealing with groups a.k.a. collectivism. In exchange for mediocrity the collective group offers safety and security. There is no incentive to excel as you will be regressed to the mean through taxation and loss of individual rights. Without leaders the average keeps dropping. This leads to more extreme forms of tyrannical government as the people demand a higher average an average they used to have, but no one steps up to raise the bar.

Why would we want to move to a socialist country when we are trying to stop movements toward socialism here? We believe in capitalism and we believe in the individual. That is why we are fighting for liberty.

JOhn

Well, I remember some people

Well, I remember some people referring to Finland as the United States of Europe. So other people's views may vary, but I said "socialist" just to denote that I'm not particularly happy with our social democratic government. However, some people might prefer the fact that we still are not as much a runaway police state as the United States are.

Finland

Nice thought (and I am sure it has crossed many peoples' minds) but we do not want to jump into the fire (Finland) which we are trying to put OUT, here.

If Ron Paul is not elected, the entire planet (no, not THIS year..) will very likely end up being a 'prisonplanet'.

FYI, last September there

FYI, last September there were an American family seeking asylum in Finland.

Socialism is a part of what your fighting

It is apparent that the principles that founded and made America great are dead or only exits in a 5% remnant. Maybe we should found new America in Antartica or on the moon. Moon base New America.
