Rejecting National ID

0 votes

Last year, seventeen states passed legislation objecting to the REAL ID Act, a massive national identification program the federal government is trying to foist on the American people through their states' driver licensing systems. Virginia may soon join those states in the REAL ID rebellion. Today, the Virginia Senate's Transportation Committee will consider a bill to reject the unfunded mandates in the REAL ID Act.

Too bad for Florida

that our governor, Charlie Christ, is a big-time Bush/McCain-smoochin neocon. I think he's already sold all our toll roads to private companies for a big fat check for himself. He'll sell the rest of us out too.

AZ Rejects it

My state (AZ) is rejecting it ostensibly on the grounds that it would cost too much to implement. After all, we have lots more people to sift through, and it wouldn't be politically expedient to start rounding up people and deporting them under the guise of National ID.

I've always hated the idea. I'm glad my state is digging its heals in. Napalitano (our governor here) has really impressed me the last year. She's been doing the work that the Feds won't. Even though it's not technically the state's job. We've had illegals leaving the state in droves because of strict supply-side (employment) legislation that she passed.

Even if you still dislike her, she at least has the good sense to reverse-course when the current one isn't working.

According to an interview on

According to an interview on RPRRadio, AZ has already agreed to RealID via your drivers' license through something called AMPANET (hope I spelled that correctly).

The interview was with the main gentleman (didn't hear his name) behind the StopRealID Coalition on Mrs. Iserbyt's show (which airs every Saturday).

I'm not sure what day it aired. I'm thinking Feb. 2nd but could've also been Jan. 26th.
