We're Back In Business --- Romney "Suspends" Campaign!
Submitted by GiveMeLibertyOr... on Thu, 02/07/2008 - 12:34
Just when it looked like all was lost, WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS WITH ROMNEY OUT!!!
Very soon Huckabee will also drop out and that will make it a 2 man race.
With only 2 candidates left people will at least notice Ron Paul, and when they finally notice him and look into him, he should be able to garner losts of support and maybe start tons of momentum.
People only need to know about him and his message, and when they are informed that's when he gets his support.
That's why he is so hugely popular with people on the Internet, because people on the Net are the best informed people around who know what the REAL news is and what's really going on in the world.

The last thing they want to
The last thing they want to see is their first-choice insulted. They're furious at McCain for many reasons, from dirty politics to his policies. They are good conservative people and they need their first exposure to Ron Paul's message to be something other than us basking in the glory of Mitt pulling out. Mesa Dentists

Back in business?
.
What makes you think the Ron Paul supporters ever stopped? We expected a lot of negativity, even made allowances for it. And, frankly a few got disgusted with the tenacity supporting Ron Paul required. But no, we were never out of business as a campaign.
You may have a point about people noticing RP if Huckabee drops out, but it is very important to keep kicking in a few dollars to the campaign, or else he will lose steam. And yet, many of the former Romney supporters are coming into our tent. That is a good thing. If/when Huckabee runs out of cash and withdraws, then maybe we will get more supporters.
But remember we still have seven months to the convention in St. Paul, MN. Much will happen between then and now. We have seen the unexpected miracle appear when we least expected it. The main thing is to keep on point, not lose faith and keep the message alive with everyone you meet, even strangers. Keep the cards and slim jims handy. Wear your cap, wear your buttons. Don't flinch. It'll be tough sledding for a while. We'll be fine.
BROKERED CONVENTION LESS LIKELY OR MORE LIKELY?
If McCain wins ALL of the remaining states, will he have the required amount of delegates ( I believe it's 1192) to win the nomination? He currently has 613!
Romney quits and Ron Paul receives more donations
Today, just after Mitt Romney announced he was suspending his campaign, the rate of donations to Dr. Ron Paul increased!

Mitt who?
I always get confused by all those has-beens who used to be running against Ron Paul. You know, like Tommy Thompson, Jim Gilmore, Mitt Romney, Rudy somebody...

Hey lets not bash former
Hey lets not bash former candidates. Lets welcome the suport from them! Work with us to restore the constitution and make America a better place. Ron Paul the only conservative left in the race.
True
Tommy Thompson and Jim Gilmore never did anything bad, so I apologize for slamming them. The other two, however, reaped what they sowed.
If their supporters have integrity, they will find Ron Paul with or without my help.

Mitt had more voter support
Mitt had more voter support than Ron Paul. Mitt is more conservative than McCain. It would be wise to not marginalize his candidacy by calling him a has-been, his supporters are right now looking for someone to support. The last thing they want to see is their first-choice insulted. They're furious at McCain for many reasons, from dirty politics to his policies. They are good conservative people and they need their first exposure to Ron Paul's message to be something other than us basking in the glory of Mitt pulling out.
Not everyone has been alerted to the fact that the money we use is fake, the war is waged for oil and they don't even realize they're not free.
If Mitt supporters are browsing and considering Ron Paul, welcome ... glad to have you here!
You're right
Okay, I won't marginalize his candidacy. But I will marginalize him as a human being and laugh heartily at the most expensive ego trip since the Spruce Goose.
I welcome Mitt's supporters. However, the man himself receives nothing but my contempt.

Romney suspended campaign...
and is retaining his delegates.
so how does it work?
He gets to choose to keep the delegates or give them to whoever he is going to endorse?

I hope he comes out swinging now
I know that Dr Paul's approach has been that of a gentleman. Maybe just maybe he has kicked into a somewhat more proactive stance if the CPAC speech is any indication of what might be in store for everyone now.
Sometimes it is the loudest squeakiest wheel that gets some grease. Obviously the MSM would like to 'anoint' McCain, and has done so on several MSM outlets, CNN, MSNBC etc...
Let's hope we all get LOUDER with the RP REVOLUTION!
Let's not pay too much attention to all that. I don't know anything but this: Hard work even harder than before is what is required. And don't forget more money for the campaign! Donate today...even 10 bucks will do...
Look. You're Wrong.
Like someone below said, Romney out is a bad thing. We could have had a brokered convention, and now, thats not an option. Romney did that to screw Paul over. Huckabee is in to claim a VP nomination, and Romney wants a chance at taking another run in the coming elections. The news is just going to ignore him more than ever now.
-------
"..the government should be afraid its people."
-------
Romney suspended his
Romney suspended his campaign, but he's kept his delegates. Even if he said he's supporting McCain (which he probably won't), those delegates aren't officially bound to vote for McCain.
I don't think McCain will get enough delegates to avoid a brokered convention, even if Huckabee pulled out tomorrow.
Sorry, but your way off
Sorry, but your way off base. Many Romney supporters like ron paul in case you haven't noticed the threads from them here all day.
It's still about the delagates and no one has them sewn up.
What may come????
I hope there is a convention. It just feels like we are forced into this (McCain or Huck) and "WE THE PEOPLE" are having no voice, no thanks to the MSM!!! We have to be persistant!!! I would vote for no one but RP!!
Everything I read says
That the State party will redistribute the delegates. Since the people in control of the state delegates will not want a brokered convention (and since Huckabee will drop soon - maybe after being offered VP) - There is no hope of a brokered convention.
Please spend your time and money supporting RP republican candidates, and preparing to support a third party candidate.

Period.
Now that Romney has dropped out, Ron Paul can't help but get more attention. Even if he doesn't win, it's all about getting the message out. I'm in this for the long haul, just like Ron Paul is.

Ron Paul is my President.
keep educating people
keep handing out slim jims, educating people and keep running for the gold.
Yesterday an acquaintance of mine told me that Faux news is "fair and balanced" I laughed and explained my reasoning and also gave the constitution a plug in there too.

Golden Opportunity
Now that Romney is gone its time to redouble our efforts to core conservatives that wouldn't have voted otherwise. The primaries in my state were on tuesday, and I did vote for the good Dr, I encourage those of you who's state's primaries havn't gone yet to vote and tell everyone you know that was a Romney goer to vote for Ron.
That's what I find most interesting...
The neo-con talking heads have been very much opposed to McCain as the nominee. It will be fun watching them eat crow to promote him now since they will never back Ron.
So after all the "it isn't over, we still have the brokered convention to look forward to", are we ready for a third-party run? I sure would like to know before I contribute any more money that might not be able to be used...
This made me
laugh very much. Someone drops out because they didn't succeed and another candidate consequently succeeded and this means Ron Paul is back in business. This is hilarious. It's the kinda of logic you use to belittle something though this person actually believes it. Gosh, Romney is out because he realizes moron McCain is becoming the nomination. Huckabee seems to be open to joining Mccain to become the VP. That makes sense for them since Huckabee will bring the religious sect in. The only option left is for Paul to go third party. That is what he should be doing. He won't win but he also won't just be a message candidate. He is more than a message and less than a winner. He is essentially a healthy threat. He should run third party to hopefully maybe get the Democract candidate to possibly feel forced to adopt some part of what he is advocating for.
You are right
This OP being on the front page of DailyPaul is what is wrong with our movement. We not back in business, we are far far from it.
It's about diluting the vote, not concentrating it...how can so many people miss this fact and just spin random nonsense that encourages everyone to waste their time sitting on DailyPaul "hoping", "thinking", "visualizing" Dr Paul's victory.
Everyone who didn't run or nominate themselves for Delegate should be BANNED from DailyPaul. We have no strategy, just a lot of misinformed people who don't trust anything, do anything viable and therefore have irrational beliefs.
Wishful thinking? Perhaps, but it is not over.
Ron Paul, February 28th, 2008. There is a CNN debate.
Romney is not technically out so he still holding onto his delegates (that's why these guys use the term "suspending").
It is unfortunately that Romney is not spending his money to go up against McCain (he's not a fighter). But if (and its really a big IF) we come to a contest convention Romney's delegates are free to choose who they want (and it won't be McCain).
Lastly, Ron Paul now has a better opportunity of taking the remaining western states since this is where is strongest (both in $$ and volunteers).
Of course, no one has actually presented the facts of how many delegates are still up for grabs. Here is the breakdown (according to CNN.com):
McCain 714
Romney 286
Huckabee 181
Paul 16
To win the nomination is 1,191 and there are still 1,183 delegates up for grabs (all of this is an estimate, recall the Paul campaign says that it may have 30 more delegates).
With these hard numbers in mind is it all done yet? I do not know for sure. What I do know is that Paul is strongest in Caucus states and Texas and Washington are sure Paul strongholds.
Of course, if Paul and Huckabee split up the rest of the delegates we will have ourselves a contested convention.

Why wouldn't they?
If you heard Romney's speech, he has pretty much given McCain his endorsement as the only candidate who will secure our occupation in Iraq and endlessly fight 'terror'. Why wouldn't his delegates support McCain at the convention?
