What Romney's Quitting Means for RP
I just received this from Kevin, head of the meet-up group in Medford, Oregon.
Romney is gone!
He's gone because he is insolvent. They are not saying so, of course. Bain Capital, I predict, will be welcoming Chinese investors, if it survives.
Edwards is gone because he lost a huge chunk of his fortune in a hedge fund collapse. They are not saying so, of course.
Huckabee is next. He has insufficient money.
McCain will not be able to fund his campaign the traditional insider way because the insiders and the warmongers are at the center of the financial whirlwind that is striking our overextended credit based financial system.
We, the People are not going to be there for McCain.
Hillary is short of funds. Obama is short of funds, but will be doing better than Hillary.
This is coming down to a Ron Paul vs. Obama contest.
This could be the first time the winner spends the LEAST amount of money. This race looks to me as if the winner will be the one who manages his money the most effectively. If Ron Paul runs the country's finances as well as he runs his campaign finances we'll be out of the coming worldwide hyper-inflationary depression much faster than if any other candidate prevails.
I've started blaming the Democrats whenever I go to the supermarket, but the truth is that they all are incompetent, Democrat and Republican alike.
SAVE WHATEVER YOU CAN. THE NEXT MONEY BOMB THAT ACTUALLY MATTERS WILL BE COMING SOON, probably as soon as Huckabee drops out and it's a two person race.

Things are moving quickly! Mitt Romney just QUIT (or 'suspended his campaign'), leaving only Huckabee (who should also quit soon), McCain and Ron Paul. The Thursday LewRockwell.com page has 3-4 articles urging Paul to move on now to a third party run.
In light of Romney's departure, Paul needs to announce he is going to run 3rd party, AND continue his run for the GOP nomination through to the convention. This should end the media blackout immediately, because an independent run will spoil it for McCain (it'll be pretty hard to keep ignoring someone who has just ruined it for the frontrunner). It will re-energize the grassroots beyond belief, and provide an out for loyal Republican Paul supporters who still want him to win the nomination. For the next 6 months supporters can build his name recognition, supply him with money bomb cash, and pick up delegates towards a major show down in St. Paul.
Quoting someone from a forum:
"That said, there is a reasonable scenario where he could win as a 3rd party candidate, if that comes to be.
Hillary gets the Democratic nomination
McCain get the Republican nomination
By that time, Ron Paul has a solid 10% across the country on his own.
Half of the Republicans hate McCain
Half of the Democrats do not support Hillary
Draw 10% from each party who hates their own candidate, add that to Ron Paul's 10%, add in another 4 or 5 from the general population that normally doesn't vote at all (we have a 50% turnout, usually), and Ron Paul wins with 35% of the general election!! "
That's the essential fall formula. But the independent ballot process per state generally occurs over the summer, so he can't wait until September. Plus (to repeat myself) if he announced he was running 3rd party soon, it should have the paradoxical effect of ending the media blackout. The storyline switches from "Paul the long shot, ignore" to "Paul the spoiler, play up" by a media that essentially wants Hillary to win. They would WELCOME seeing the conservative vote split up, as it fits the elite's general scheme of having a weakened GOP candidate lose to Clinton. They don't seem to be factoring in the power of Paul's ideas, which can also pull votes from Democrats who don't want to vote for Hillary.

Constitution Party
The Constitution Party, is I believe, already on the ballot in all 50 states. I bet they would LOVE to have our man!
Can we get him on the ballot?
Does the GOP have any rules against simultaneously running a third party run without giving up your spot on the Republican convention?
THAT would be an exciting campaign.
**The storyline switches from "Paul the long shot, ignore" to "Paul the spoiler, play up" by a media that essentially wants Hillary to win.**
This is what they've been waiting for.

Obama short of funds? He got $32 million in January alone.
Go President Paul!

There are many McCain and Huckabee haters
Ron Paul is the only one left :)
Huckabee will be next to leave and it will be very soon.
Ok... How do We Do Indy at Same Time?
As a Northern liberal Ron Paul Supporter, I concur with the conservative gentleman from South Carolina. (Welcome on board to you and *all* Romney supporters).
We should not bash Romney too much now. He's out. Let's focus on McCain.
My question now is how do we (the grassroots) effectively get Dr. Paul on the independent ballot while he continues (as he very well should) his delegate war inside the GOP machine?
I mean what a great leverage to have walking into the GOP convention and tell the elite: "Hey I'm here for your protection!". "Protection from who?" asks the GOP elite and the hundreds of uncomitted delegates on the floor. "From those thousands of Revolutionaries out on the street who are threatening to put me on the independent ballot in November unless you fake conservatives play ball!"
Now that would be a sight to see!
McCain is not
going to run out of money. The GOP is still going to support him and the donations will start rolling in. I hate to say it, but republicans are going to back McCain before seeing Hilary in the White House....actually I'm not so sure about that because so many republicans seem to dislike McCain. But, why did he do so well on Super Tuesday? Sorry for the ramblings....
Please don't do Paul such a disservice by posting this
Knocking on Romney who made a very classy move today is not the way to win hearts and minds. This is my first day in this forum and I don't want it to be my list.
1) Romney is not insolvent. He left Bain 8 years ago and his investments are in a blind trust--not tied to Bain. In fact, when he left Bain, he could have taken much more with him and he would have been a Billionaire. Instead, he divided it among his partners and gave them ownership when he left. In what is normally a cut-throat, jealousy-filled, and agressive world of international finance and investment, you won't find a soul at Bain Capitol who would bad-mouth Romney.
2) Jump on the whole independent idea! Ron Paul needs more voice to his message, but it really needs to come from him and not some of the twilight-zone followers who are novice politicians, and don't research what they spout. Ron Paul is a principled man, but would probably do better with a little "natural selection" among a few of his adherents. Go "indy", but be respectful.

This my friend comes from
a very active meet up group in Medford, Or. It is hard for me to defend someone who is tied into CFR, etc. Very difficult. He would do their bidding not that of our Constitution.

I am consistently...
...as vehemently "anti 3rd party idea" as anyone here. But I have to admit, Lysa's idea about doing BOTH (also staying in Repug race) at the same time might actually be workable??
Golly oh gee, where have you been?
I've been proposing this for months.
"Welcome to 2008: The Year of Ron Paul!"
Can he do both?
"Paul needs to announce he is going to run 3rd party, AND continue his run for the GOP nomination through to the convention."
Can he do both at the same time?
