Why GIVE Wisconsin to McCain? -- TWO Events on February 19th

0 votes

I am SADDENED to see all of this emphasis on Washington and February 19th.

It is as if the campaign is completely COMATOSE.

Just as the media is ignoring Ron Paul -- the entire Ron Paul "official" campaign is COMPLETELY IGNORING the fact that Wisconsin (with an OPEN PRIMARY, with SAME DAY voter registration, a known "independent" and "maverick" streak, and FORTY DELEGATES, 24 of them allocated by DISTRICT to the winner of THAT DISTRICT -- and a primary ON FEBRUARY 19TH).

** Where is our "official" campaign coordinator? ZIP.

** Where is our "official" campaign office? ZILCH.

** Where is even JUST ONE campaign event (even by someone on BEHALF of Ron Paul) -- in our state? NADA -- NONE.

****** This is INSANE.

What makes it MORE insane is that I know our local GOP leaders do NOT want John McCain as their nominee. I know this because at a recent GOP "Voter Vault" training event two weeks ago in Milwaukee, an informal "hand show" straw poll was done during lunch, the results:

Rudy Giuliani -- approx 20 hands
Fred Thompson -- about a dozen hands
Mitt Romney -- approx 20 hands
John McCain -- ZERO hands (and a lot of "oh my's")
Mike Huckablee -- half dozen hands
Ron Paul -- over a dozen hands (and we know MORE because several RP supporters were "incognito" in their bids to be "trojan" delegates).

Understand the IMPORT of that -- the majority of the GOP LEADERSHIP in the state of Wisconsin does NOT want to support McCain. They will do so ONLY if they see no alternative.

You see, since the "official" Ron Paul campaign is choosing to completely IGNORE our state, and is "nowhere to be seen" (they discount the grassroots) -- they are being given NO CHOICE. So in essence, the campaign is GIVING John McCain the entire State of Wisconsin.

We even have an upcoming MAJOR event -- the Milwaukee County Reagan Day Dinner -- on Friday, February 15, 2008 (Serb Memorial Hall - President’s Hall -- 5101 W. Oklahoma Avenue – Milwaukee) -- with NO presence by the Ron Paul campaign. WHY NOT???

OK, folks... you can stop calling. There is now ZERO chance we will get anything in Wisconsin, see snippet from RP email below:

Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get. But with so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter.

To me that paragraph is the equivalent of Romney's "Suspension" speech; it means he will no longer be making ANY campaign appearances around the country, and instead will be focussing on getting re-elected to Congress. Only Huckabee can stop McCain now, and since he will probably drop out shortly after the next race, the MSM's Frankenstein creation of opposing candidates will go unchecked...

So long and thanks for all the fish.

PoliticalLore article outlines why Wisconsin AND Texas

are both very important... and therefore why RP HQ is smoking some strange stuff in abandoning WI...

Daily Dose keeps up fraud and takes credit where it is NOT due

See recent entry:
Daily Dose "Smoke" on Wisconsin

I see no point in misleading people into thinking Wisconsin is going to be some great success, when we the "invisible" candidate and "non-existent" campaign have a poor showing.

I guess at least by highlighting the grassroots they are in a round-about way admitting that they've betrayed and abandoned us to our own "quixotic" efforts.

(But apparently there is still enough money on hand to pay a blogger to surf the web and post a few "wrapper" paragraphs on the efforts of others. w00f.)

I Agree

I was wondering that too. Even one day up there would help. It seems like everywhere he went right before Super Tuesday he did well, North Dakota, Minn, Washington, Colorado. I don't think HQ realizes how much just a stop in a state gets out the word locally about his views. All it will take is one day away from Texas.

Quit Griping and get campaigning!!!

If this is really grassroots, you don't need an official campaign worker to tell you what to do. In my county, we worked the precincts and ran ads in the local newspaper for three weeks prior to the primary. We didn't wait on the campaign to do it for us. Having slim jims and signs from the campaign was nice, but we had all been buying supplies ourselves before the campaign ever had the money to send them out. We had had a 2 x 4 sign in our yard for months and since we had to buy a minimum of three to get one, we got two other families on major highways to put up the others.

In another county, the local meetup group had rallies three weeks in a row that got news coverage, again without anyone telling them to do that.

Get to Work and quit complaining. Being negative just hurts the campaign.

No one is asking for the campaign to TELL anyone to do anything.

No one is asking for the campaign to TELL anyone to do anything.

What we are expecting is that the F'ing campaign itself ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING... instead of sitting on it's fact backside GRIPING AND COMPLAINING constantly that they need more money.

The painful truth is that they are currently doing nothing with the money they already have.

And as for YOUR arrogant "Get to Work" -- you're only showing yourself to be a fool -- grassroots efforts in Wisconsin have been huge (read the posts BELOW your own) ... we're all tapped out here. But we're watching poll numbers dropping because all of the other candidates are popping up all over the state...

And Ron Paul himself has dropped TOTALLY out of sight the campaign -- from the evidence of EVERYONE's eyes (most will ignore all of OUR signs, billboards, and ads as the work of stubborn fools, or pre-bought ads that didn't get canceled -- heck Romney, Giuliani, even Fred Thompson are still on the pre-printed ballots as well, so that's not proof of anything). If the campaign wants to even "pretend" that it is still ACTUALLY running, then the candidate or his surrogates need to get their butts back on the trail.

And in reality, there is no campaign to "hurt" anymore.

Can HQ relay a message to

Can HQ relay a message to Ron Paul? Maybe we can get a picture of Ron in a cheesehead and saying a few words on youtube? It would take 20 minutes

No, HQ sadly does NOT relay, and a YouTube would be pointless.

When a candidate "skips" a state entirely and makes NO appearances within that state -- and there are not a whole "host" of other primaries around the same date -- then he/she is essentially sending a very LOUD and clear statement that they do NOT care -- has already deemed the state a loss -- or has essentially stopped campaigning -- and worst of all, that they also couldn't care less whether the supporters within that state look like fools.

Local media WILL point this all out, and IMHO, rightfully so.

But if you want, you can still chalk it up to media "bias."

I though this was a very telling note... on this DailyDose blog entry

Just a few minutes ago I was watching Wisconsin news (we are close to the border). That little line that runs along the bottom of the screen was listing Presidential candidates scheduled events for Wisconsin. At the end of the lineup was “Ron Paul (I was thrilled to see his name) no events scheduled”. NO EVENTS SCHEDULED. They finally have something about Ron Paul on TV and they are announcing nothing!

So see, we got the local media covering our (sadly non-existent) campaign here in Wisconsin. W00T!

Can You Schedule Something Yourselves?

Look for opportunities to have someone go and speak or have rallies. It's a big country.

If we were sending more money, he could fly a charter.

There may also be issues with election finance. Much of his staff (and I assume that means office expenses, too) have been shifted this month to the Congressional campaign. After that, they'll be shifted back. I'm not sure what that may entail.

Also, be sure and check the campaign schedule. They don't publish too far in advance, but it may be that they have things scheduled but the press did not know it.

IMissLiberty

IMissLiberty

Money is not the issue.

They have over $5 million still on hand at last report.

There are no excuses for this any more than there were excuses for him "skipping over" Michigan completely.

Locally we have done all we can.

They don't publish too far in advance, but it may be that they have things scheduled but the press did not know it.

That would be very typical of the campaign, wouldn't it. But no, in this case it is not a matter of them failing to publish the events -- it is that they have no events scheduled.

$5 million is long gone on January expenditures

That $5 million was left at the end of the December. Between December 31st and now, there were around 25 primaries and caucuses. Lit was sent all over the country. I just sent two boxes of left over signs and lit to TX. It cost me $27 to do that. That was JUST the SHIPPING cost. Just one shipment to southwest Missouri included 17 cases of slim jims. That was shipped in JANUARY to a "super Tuesday" state. There were many other shipments to other areas of this state and I am sure there were many shipments to all other "super Tuesday" states as well. To think that there is still $5 million sitting around in a bank, just means you haven't been very involved in political campaigns before this election. They take money and the the money coming in has slowed down big time in January. Maybe if RP's supporters had given more at the beginning of January, as requested, we would have been able to advertise heavily in all the "super Tuesday" states. But, the campaign had to pick and choose where they had the best "chance" of doing well, since there were limited funds available. RP will NOT go into debt to fund this campaign. We the supporters need to step up to the plate and either run the ads ourselves or donate to the campaign so that they can do it!

Actually your numbers are completely WRONG.

There was approximately $8 Million left as of 12/31/2007. (See the FEC Reports).

Majority of THAT was spent in January and on Feb 5th states.

But (confirmed by Jesse Benton within the past week) the campaign STILL HAS between $5 Million and $6 Million of cash ON HAND at the moment.

You can delude yourself otherwise, but if the campaign did not have at least $1M then they would have shut it down completely.

The reason they are NOT running ads currently has NOTHING to do with a lack of funds. (And when the FEC reports come out at the end of 1st quarter, and the $5 M figure is proven 100% correct, you can apologize then, in the mean time, quit being so condescending.)

my meetup group (in

my meetup group (in minnesota) has been helping to do lit drops across the border. hope that helps.

BUMP

Good luck, Wisconsin.

Hope Ron Paul is planning a visit!

WRITE!

So write to the paper and ask them to add RP.

jsmetro@journalsentinel.com

Write to the campaign and tell them it's an open state!

Why should the paper add him -- when it is OBVIOUS

to them from the lack of any candidate appearances or even advertisements that he NOT seriously still in the race?

As to writing HQ -- The several meetup organizers have written, we have called... multiple times over the past several weeks -- we get NO responses to emails and NO call backs on the voice messages.

none.

Run an AD

Run an ad in their paper then. Get the word out.

bump and donated some money.

bump and donated some money.

Is Ron going to come to

Is Ron going to come to Wisconsin?

ummmm nope.

nada.... zilch... zippo.

Wisconsin is apparently not worthy of attention from the campaign.

We Must Like 4%

I can write anything I want here because nobody is ever going to read it. Wisconsin will just be another 4% state for Ron Paul in the primary process.

McCain will Be Here

John McCain will be at the Regan Day dinner. Its sad that Ron Paul won't be here. Many people I talk to in this state think that Ron Paul has dropped out of the race. I can see why when I see things like this:

http://www.jsonline.com/candidatetracker/candidatetracker/default.aspx

If you were a voter and saw something like this would you consider voting for Dr. Paul? Seriously, how much can it cost to fly in for a day or two?

Instead we moved from focusing on the blimp to the Washington rally and have forgotten the primary process again. (I'm not saying the rally is a bad thing but rather that it shouldn't be the sole focus.) Threads like this never make it to the main page because they aren't as fun as blimps and rallies and they sadly just get buried.

This is so aggravating

when I read stuff like this it just makes me sad. I don't understand why Dr. Paul isn't scheduled for any rallies in Wisconsin and yet McCain & Huckabee are?
I agee with what you have posted.

The blimp, the rally, all these things are distractions right now.
The money has dried up b/c the campaign has been sending out to many mixed messages. The 'Ron' email & the video didn't make people feel secure that the campaign is in it to win it.

Thanks for all your hard work in Wisconsin.

Blimp

We need to focus on WI.

Bump! This is still

Bump! This is still important!!!!

Our suport in Wisconsin is

Our suport in Wisconsin is probably the same as it was in Michigan.

From Central WI

I'm a student at the University Wisconsin Stevens Point and we are being taken over by Obama supporters. That being said I've seen active Ron Paul supporters on campus from the first days of the fall semester. There has been people working hard and continuing to work for Ron Paul. Our meetup group has even continued to grow. I don't think it's enough yet and I for one haven't done as much as i should be. We need resources. I wish we could get more yard signs so i could give them out to people, I've given out two but i don't have money for signs.

I think that we should start a national yard sign recycling program where states who have had primaries send their signs to states who haven't.

It would be great to have Paul spend some time in WI. He could easily cover the three biggest cities in the state in one day but it would be nice if he would hit some of the smaller towns and university's.

We could also use TV and radio adds to reach more of the main stream.

I'm talking to my friends at college about Ron Paul and I will be representing him in the college debates we are having on the 18th so i hope i can help some people find the light.

Any help in WI would be appreciated we are a great state for progressive politics and we are the birth place of the republican party (but the state is mostly democrat now because the republicans "have lost their way").

Stephen

thanks for all your support for Dr. Paul

May you WIN the debate!!
