Why You Should Give
Fellow Ron Paul Supporters,
In this campaign, for as successful as our grassroots efforts have been and continue to be, we all recognize that we need to get greater media access to continue to spread Ron Paul's message as widely as possible. We start off at a huge disadvantage as we were not one of the anointed campaigns, but our popular support means that we can win. But, to do that, we need you to give as much as you can and I'm going to explain why.
As the polls, thanks largely to a combination of methodological differences and media inequity, are prone to underestimate our support, this means that the single best tool we have to show our strength is to raise more money than our opponents. I know how hard that is when we are facing people who can get donations at $2,300 in a single blast, because that money is a cheap investment for them. I know that our supporters, by and large, work hard for their money and that it can be a hardship to give. But, I know of no other way to get the attention we need than to beat them at their own game.
I now work as State Coordinator for Pennsylvania for the Official Campaign, and in that capacity, I get to travel across this Commonwealth and meet many Ron Paul supporters. What I have found are patriotic Americans, many of whom are struggling to get by, in a country where they feel that they are not getting the representation they deserve. They want something more, and they give their time and their effort, but money is hard. Giving to this campaign sometimes means giving up the leisures that they can afford, and as we go into the holidays, this will be a harder choice.
Yet, there is a choice there, and that is to choose whether you will look for the short-term joy of getting those extra items, or whether you want to make a long-term investment in something that matters: liberty. It won't keep you warm at night, but your eyes will rest easy knowing that you, your family, and your loved ones can live in a country where you will be free! You will have the choice of how to live, and we are reaching a point where that almost seems like it is becoming the question.
Everyone else running, on either side, seems to think the government has a mandate to tell you how to live and how to be. The rhetoric is different, of course, but the truth is that they all believe government should control your destiny as much, if not more than you do. I cannot speak for everyone, but no amount of money is worth accepting that, and if it costs me quite a bit of time, money, or effort to work against that, there really is no choice. To work to preserve your own freedom is something we must all be willing to do.
There are no guarantees to how this will end, but we face a difficult struggle. We have come a long way, and we have a long way to go, but let me tell you something that makes me smile and might make all of you smile also. What will they say if we outraise them all? What can they say? Can you imagine what that would say?
I know the impulse is to say that is impossible. Why? If we had the same number of supporters who gave last quarter give once more, and each gives only $200 over the entire quarter, we will shatter our numbers. If we double our supporters, think how much larger than number will grow to be. We are the only candidate out there receiving widespread popular support in the Republican Party, and from that, we have the most potential to grow. Believe it. This can be done, and all that remains is to try.
You should know that all of us in the national campaign, from Dr. Paul himself to our volunteer assistants, are doing all we can. There is so much work and so little time, but yet we draw inspiration from the thousands of supporters who are out there every day because they believe. We're doing everything we can to make that difference, and to make your effort and your money mean something. After all, though we are spreading the message, it is each and every one of you that makes it matter and that makes this campaign real.
I believe in the cause and you should too. We need you. But that alone is not the reason to give. Give for yourself and for the chance to live in what the country you want. If you look inside, I think you'll find the answers and the hard choices might not seem so tough. Besides, we all know it is just fiat money anyway, so why don't you give some of those paper dollars and invest it in a commodity much more tangible: Hope for America.
Yours,
Tom

November 5th 2007, Ron Paul raised 10 million in one day...
This may seem impossible....
Remember back in 2007 when President Paul raised 10 million dollars in one day...
Impossible?
...but if we can rally 100,000 RP supporters to donate $100 each on November 5th (10 million unbacked federal reserve notes)....well this equals more than 10 million dollars worth of main stream media 'shock and awe'.
Talk it up.
Rally the troops.
The constitution is worth it.
Possible.
Remember remember ;)
What we really need
is to email this message to all the meetup listhosts.
My response: Pledge Drive
I find it unbelievable that the Ron Paul campaign doesn't actively go after the people in meetup groups.
I mean if you purposely join a meetup group then I can assume you would be willing to donate to the cause. Right?
There are 60,000 members in meetup groups. You simply need that number to donate $200 over the course of 3 months to get $12 million.
Now the question is, Tom, why isn't the Ron Paul campaign doing this?
There is a pledgedrive.com site that says "I'll donate x amount but only if x number of people donate". Why does the Ron Paul campaign not initiate one of these? or start one on their own web site? They can do one pledge per month or one per quarter.
getting there
One of the issues with the campaign is that we don't have many people.
But, you'd also see State Coordinators talking to the Meetups. Like I do in Pennsylvania, for instance, and that helps with fundraising.
Maybe I'll have to try to reach all the Meetups and ask them to give. :)
But, the truth is the campaign does realize that, and you can look to the Meetup fundraising contest as a result. I would say that we have great faith in the ability of the supporters at the grassroots level to make smart decisions and figure out what is necessary to make this succeed.
After all, if you know what to do, you didn't need me to tell you. And most every group has someone like this that realizes these things. It gives us time to go after bringing new people into the cause.
