This is why Ron Paul AND NASCAR together will WORK

I know nothing of NASCAR
On January 29th, 2008 LoveandLight says:
I'm a co-organizer in the DFW area. Last year, all of the DFW groups pulled together for the big NASCAR event at Texas Motor speed way here in Fort Worth. Most folks wanted to get a booth that cost $5,000! I knew that there were only four ways in and out of TMS and that with all the people in the Meetups, we could just "post" at four locations and there would be no way in or out of there without seeing us. We could save all that money by doing sign waves.

Let me show you a copy of the message I sent out to everyone when someone in one of the groups asked for feedback from the event:

Well, boy was I wrong! I didn't see ANY reason to spend $5k for a booth when we could do sign waves at 4 key intersections, and there would be no way in or out of the place without seeing us.

As it turned out the few that showed up to do sign waves, not even enough to do 4 intersections because there were only 3, were run off by 5-0 after about an hour and a half. Two of us then manned the booth for the next two days. Thank goodness that there WAS a booth!

The booth was fantastic! Over 15,000 slim-jims given out! We picked up all the slim-jims we could find laying on the ground at the end of the last day, and there were less than 200 thrown down! That's an important fact. The VAST majority of them were kept. I kept saying as I was handing them out: "He just wants you to keep all your money, and he has a thirty year record to back that up!" Most were at least curious about my bold statement.

The part that kept me smiling was when I would say my line, some people would say: "No thank you." Imagine saying no thank you to keeping your money! Nope, please give all my money to our trusty government and let them decided how much I should be allotted. It kills me. But those were the major minority.

Others offered their opinion of Ron Paul rather than accept the slim-jim. To each his own. While I certainly cannot agree with the opinion that was offered to me (ok, it was shouted at me) that "Ron Paul HATES our troops," I must defend this person's right to have/offer that opinion, and I do. The irony is that the supporters of Ron Paul understand this as well, and that if we don't elect Ron Paul, there is the distinct probability that he WON'T be able to have, let alone express, an opinion other than that of the "Status Quo." But I digress...

The banners did indeed fly over 250,000 NASCAR fans. However, there were several other banners flying around as well. I would guess that most people saw them. Thanks to John (of the Plano group?) and the Granny Warriors for making that happen!

What also happened that is (IMO) the best thing ever, could not be planned, coordinated, or organized. It was merely divine intervention. On one side of the booth was the Scott (yes, toilet paper, and yes, that joke has been made about me for my entire life thank you very much, hehe) Booth. On the other side was Tony Stewart's stock car (a replica I'm sure). I'm not a NASCAR fan, but I've been told that Tony Stewart is the hottest name in NASCAR right now. The "Ron Paul" of NASCAR if you will. Anyway, the booth was giving away FREE pictures to anyone that wanted one. Thousands upon thousands of people had their picture taken in front of the stock car by a "stationary" camera. The line for these free pictures was "around the corner" for two days solid.

At the end of Sunday, as all booths were closing up, I asked the guys to take one last picture of me and my girlfriend as she is a "number 20" fanatic. So, they did, and when I looked at the picture my jaw dropped because of what was in this picture's (and every other picture taken there) background. Because of the relationship of the stock car, the Ron Paul booth, and the Scott booth, the background stated in HUGE letters: Ron Paul - A Winning Team!

I'm not joking here, that is CLEARLY in the background of every single picture. Everyone that looks at this picture may not say the words out loud, they probably won't even know that they "saw" them. What WILL happen is that they are associating Ron Paul as a winning team, with one of their favorite things NASCAR. I'm telling you, you cannot buy that. Call me crazy (if you haven't already), but this is an amazing event in and of itself. These pictures will be shown to thousands of others in email, mySpace, faceBook, just people putting them on their desks at work or showing them to their friends/family. WOW!

There was also a campsite at the event. I'm not sure of all or what that happened there, but my understanding is that there was a "kegger" that drew in others from the surrounding campground area. It seems Ron Paul information was available to those interested. That's what I'm talking about... Miller Light for Ron Paul! Woot!

Here is a link to an example of the photos that went out to NASCAR fans. This picture was taken with my cell phone, not the camera that all the other pics were taken with. But it is in almost the exact spot were the camera was:

So, I was DEAD WRONG about NASCAR. I am donating to this event, and I hope that the lesson I learned will be provide an answer to those that may be riding the fence on supporting this. I don't know the first thing about NASCAR, but I'm sure glad we had that booth and I truly feel that I'll be glad that we had that car!
