Okay I get it now - Ron Paul won Washington - MSM has got it wrong

0 votes

Okay folks here is how it works - there are those that choose a candidate as part of a straw poll at each caucus site in the state - these people may or may not be delegates, they might not even vote for other delegates but they do vote in the "straw poll" portion of the event. However the delegates are the only thing that counts and Ron Paul won the delegates See below example:

Clark County
Attendees were given the option of declaring what Presidential candidate they preferred. Those elected to be delegates made these choices:
• Ron Paul 224
• Huckabee 211
• Romney 184
• McCain 151
• Uncommitted 88

The results of the Straw Poll (which includes all those in attendance who may or may not be a delegate)
• Huckabee 407
• McCain 329
• Paul 319
• Romney 313
• Thompson 14
• Uncommitted 6
• Hunter 3
• Guiliani 2
• Keyes 2

The Grrrreat RNC?

I am a Republican and have been for many years. I now HATE it in all of it's corruption. They really suck and I am very disappointed. Never in my lifetime has there been a candidate like Ron Paul that I trust and truly believe is for the people. I signed up as a delegate in Florida. I won't leave the party as long as there are chances of infiltrating it. I'm fighting for the candidate that is best for our country.
To get on the ballot as a Independent cost millions. I don't know Ron's finances but he doesn't act very wealthy. There are no guarantees that he could get enough independent votes. Some Independents obviously like John McCain. See New Hampshire and Maine. If Ron runs as an Independent, he would lose his House seat and could still not be elected as President. We then have no inside help. Ron Pal will have nothing for his hard work to fight the establishment. The whole thing sucks. The injustices against the American people is even worse. It is the American voter's fault by not demanding better candidates and always voting status quo and who is popular. The RNC more about power and could care less about the people.
I'm voting for Ron Paul wherever he may be during the general election or will vote Libertarian or Independent depending on who it is?

I'm in a fight for my rights and my life. Go Ron Paul!!!!

this is just Clark county

And it's great, but what about the rest of the state?

Here is how Whatcom County

Here is how Whatcom County GOP reported: (delegates)

78 Huckabee
60 Paul
47 McCain
34 Undecided
20 Romney

but our city caucus the presidential preference (there were about 40 precincts and I'd say 25% of the county) were
Huck 82
Ron Paul 93
McCain 51

Sounds like

RP supporters in Wash.did an amazing job. Many thanks!

But, it looks like another opportunity for some badly needed publicity was blown. A clear cut win in the straw poll, followed by winning the most delegates, would have been a great headline for this morning's news and going into the primary on the 19th.

h-daddy

They did not know they were

They did not know they were talking a "straw poll" and the results of the "straw poll" were not private.

This "straw poll" was not really a straw poll at all.. it was the sign up form for the caucus. It had a box on the end that said "presidential preference". whatever you wrote down there was sent to the media as "votes". Every Ron Paul supporter at my caucus wrote down uncommited at first.. so Ron got 0 votes in the "so called straw poll" for my caucus but he won every delegate seat.

If your trying to win a caucus on issues its pretty bad form to support a canidate right out of the gate.

MSM wrong?

They're doing what they're suppose to do.

Hearding sheep.

Nice Link

Its interesting to see how people from so many pespectives rally behind the cause of Liberty and are supporting Ron Paul. Thanks for the link.

I'm a citizen dammit not a consumer!

The RNC can and will change the rules as they see fit

MSM knows its wrong

they want to confuse people who have never voted in a caucus, I didn't understand it fully until I became a delegate but the straw poll is really meaningless I mean it's great and all if you win I suppose but it's not accurate because we were sneaky enough to know that we could become delegates in precincts full of neocons (in addition to the many more where we were "ALL FOR PAUL") if we just kept quiet and offered to be the delegate especially since most of the other candidate's people don't want to be delegates because they see it as a hassle.

I don't understand these caucuses!

Why are they voting for Romney knowing he's out? What's the deal?

"You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. -- all I am offering is the truth, nothing more."

Some People were diehard Romney Supporters in a few Precincts

but we probably infiltrated at least some of them with shadow delegates (the other candidates people are not nearly as motivated to go to be a delegate so we can take advantage of that apathy and get our own people in their so long as they don't realize they are voting for Paul Peaople) as I know I personally saw this happen on more than one occasion in my district (Although my district in general was more visibly in support of Dr. Paul as we had a heavy youthful turnout)

At 0110 Hrs (PST) Sunday morning...

... CNN still doesn't have any county results up on their website. If we can work these numbers out on our own, you'd think that they'd be able to with all their fancy technology. Maybe their analysts get paid less on Saturday nights?

More likely there are more nefarious reasons at play? This has't happened yet at any of the other primaries or caucuses. Funny it happens when our guy is doing so well.

I stand corrected.

Sorry, just realised that North Dakota didn't release any county results on Super Tuesday either. Go see here: http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#ND. Funny how Ron Paul was also doing well there too.

I'm not saying that there's anything to this, but wherever I've been in the world, I've yet to see a town, city, precinct or county, etc not release its results. At the very least, this is just arcane. Of course, this is a private political party affair, so they can do what they like, but isn't this the party that's 'trying to bring democracy to the Middle East'?

Or the state republican party doesn't release county-by-county

We're all working from the WSRP.org results.

If the state republican party doesn't release county-by-county results then there's nothing that CNN can do about that.

CNN is reporting that Huck and Mccain are still fighting for WA

Ron Paul may still win. This proves that the results are still 2 close to call.
600 votes for paul can swing this thing.

I think all the GOP people

I think all the GOP people have gone to bed by now..

The percentages I just worked out myself on Excel.

I still don't understand the "uncommitted"...

how can you be sure they were mostly Ron Paul people? why would RP people give up the chance of getting a win on the MSM? This is all very confusing concerning WA. Does anyone really know what is going on there?

Doesn't the straw poll determine the number of delegates that will represent each candidate in a state convention? Will there be a convention on the state level or is this it?

I Know What is Going on I was there

The uncommitted people are the many Paul Supporters that kept quiet about their Paul support in order to gain delegates in precincts where we didn't have majorities. Plus many people were unsure of what to put because we were all told to play it by ear and make sure that we were the delegates no matter if we had to pretend to support the other candidates to do so I saw it happen in my district with my own two eyes the revolution is real.

The straw poll doesn't determine anything the delegates determine everything!

There are more conventions to come where our dedicated delegates will vote for Ron Paul delegates to continue up the pyramid all the way to National, Mark my words Washington State will be sending Ron Paul delegates to the national convention because precinct delegates like me are all going to vote for delegates to County and our county people will vote for state delegates and our state people will them vote our people to national and it all begins with our precious precinct delegates everyone of which needs to register with the campaign and report on their status.

Ok try this..

Ok try this..

You come to your caucus and there are 8 people already there. They ask you to sign in. You see on the form (the straw poll form) that 7 are for McCain and the other is for Huckabee. Instead of writing down Paul you write down uncommited and keep your gunpowder dry.

During the caucus you express extreme concern over spending and the economy but remain quiet when other issues are discussed.

When it comes time to vote you say you would like to be a delegate, but your not sure who is best on spending and the economy yet so you run uncommited, you get elected, and poof you are now a RP uncommited delegate.

delegate

Hey paul_power - I answered

Hey paul_power - I answered you in the other thread.

Thanks...

I asked this question all over the place... it is driving me crazy not understanding what is happening in WA. I want a WIN so bad - something that has to be reported in the stinkin MSM.

YOU WANT A WIN

We gave you a win! We Kicked Butt!

Don't worry about the MSM it is all smoke and mirrors they will spin it anyway they can to make it look like Mccain has the nomination locked up when that is nowhere near what is happening.

They don't want to report our VICTORY! (BUT I DO! LET IT BE SCREAMED FROM THE MOUNTAINTOPS "ALL FOR PAUL") Because they realize that this thing is all about momentum they fear the resurgence of our movement and they fear our already massive army of shadow delegates. Let us show them that we are not afraid by continuing to communicate and not letting seeds of despair or discontent be sown amongst our patriot friends.

THEY MAY TAKE OUR LIVES BUT THEY MAY NEVER TAKE OUR FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is confusing.

This is just my opinion - I think that a lot of those uncommitted voters are "stealth" Ron Paul candidates who realised that they wouldn't be voted in as delegates if they declared their preference for Dr. Paul. I've seen some comments on other posts during the day alluding to this.

Exactly

That is exactly what is going on it's not just your opinion it is fact I was there I saw it happen in my district I talked to people in other districts and heard the same story, it was a planned effort on the part of the campaign to get the grassroots totally focused on delegates which are what actually counts in the next caucus.

Proud Paul Delegate 43-2077 -Elected by Unanimous Paul Supporters-

No the straw poll doesn't count

No the straw poll doesn't count, next week the Primary will give the winner of that state the other half of the delegates.

Well if a Ron Paul supporter goes into a caucus and see lots of McCain support, he would NOT let on he is a Ron Paul supporter because he would get out voted.
