Paul's spokesman Jesse Benton said the national staff would likely be reduced from 150 to about 50, with those who worked in the Super Tuesday primaries in states such as California being let go.

"In addition, Benton said, he and other national staffers will transfer to Paul's congressional re-election operation....read the rest:

This campaign is ingenious

I've never followed a political campaign before, but the way this has been run has been superb. The media were never going to give Dr Paul a fair shot so instead of pounding all that money into what the ther candidates have done, they've spent on name recognition, on core principles and in States which are being ignored by everyone else till just before the primaries and caucuses. That way they're giving their troops on the ground (us) the tools we need to make that introduction to our candidate, to win a percentage of the vote that we can stand beside and not end up looking like a Mike Gravel and most importantly they have focussed on getting people out in force to take over the delegate process. They don't need to be spending money in states where the primaries and caucuses are done because they have volunteers on the ground in force in all those states.

It's all very tense right now, but I think they're downplaying the chances of a brokered convention. The Conservative base of the Republican Party - without whom you can't get an outright majority for the nomination - are not going to rally behind a liberal, big spending, two faced nutbag like McCain. Not now, with the economy taking center stage. Maybe when it was 'the war', but we're heading for recession and the economy will not take a back seat again. That means the votes will continue to be split - Huckabee will pick up the red states, McCain will pick up the blue and who knows - maybe Dr Paul can win the popular vote in one or two states along the way. But that's not important. What's important is that NO-ONE gets an outright majority before the convention, whereupon the first inconclusive vote goes through, everyone's free to vote as they choose and Hey presto - suddenly it becomes painfully apparent that all the delegates at the RNC are Ron Paul supporters.

I'm choosing to believe that HQ are downplaying this because of Romney's stepping aside. I don't pretend to know Mitt's motives - and I don't want to criticize the guy because I know a lot of his supporters have started coming over here and they know a lot more about their candidate than I do - but the stated aim was to avoid a brokered convention. And if we seem weak for the next few months, they're less likely to try pulling something else like that out of the bag.

And here's the "money shot"

"...cannot transfer that money to his congressional campaign unless he terminates his presidential effort, which he does not intend to do."

Link fixed -- sorry

Thanks for your patience.

This is common for any

This is common for any campaign.

Why spend money in states that are over? He is going to focus on the states that are left and there are pnly i believe 19 states left.

Don't read into this so much as it is misleading.

Are you saying Jesse Benton is not telling the truth?

He is in charge of media communications for Dr. Paul.

Clarification

The poster probably meant, "don't read too much into the staff downsizing."

Ron Paul is famous for making his money go a long way and very quick to increase efficiency when he can.
