Paul Campaign Buys $700,000 Worth of Radio @ TV Ads for Texas!!!
Great article in the Houston Chronicle on current status of the Ron Paul Presidential Campaign. The Highlights include:
*** No Third Party Run For President
*** Paul Concentrating on Primary Campaign in Texas District 14 because he is being challenged.
*** National Presidential Campaign Staff is being reduced from 150 to 50 after Super Tuesday primaries.
*** Jesse Benton and other national staff are being transferred to RP's Congressional Re-election Operation.
*** $700,000 worth of Radio and Cable TV ads will begin running this week in the Houston, Austin and Dallas-Ft. Worth markets ahead of Texas's March 4th Presidential Primary.
*** Jesse Benton stated that Ron Paul still has about $6 million in his presidential election account, which he cannot transfer to his Congressional Campaign unless he terminates his presidential effort, which he does not intend to do.

That amount may do for a Congressional Race... but $3,500,000 million and 22,000 plus commercials are needed to take the state of Texas. And if Ron Paul cannot take his own state, or does not go all out, then I doubt his money bombs from us will continue. He needs a big win in Texas, and to do that he must advertise on TV from now until March 4th.
Think about it guys....if by stealth Ron Paul won 1300 delegates at the National GOP convention and became the nominee, all hell would break loose. The commentators would have a field day. You think the conservatives are hard on John McCain now? That will seem like nothing should Ron Paul win the GOP nomination. Without having won ONE state?.....let alone his own state of Texas? All hell would break loose and we would not be able to find one kind word for Dr. Ron Paul anywhere, even among supporters such as Pat Buchanan. Everyone who has a foot will feel entitled to give a kick to old Ron Paul for "doing something tricky". Come General Election, it will be the greatest defeat in Political history, 1000 times worse than Goldwater's defeat.
Ron Paul needs to GO ALL OUT and win Texas. With a WIN in Texas it all changes. So lets be clear, Ron Paul needs to spend it all. He needs to be on TV all the time.
He should try the infomercial route. Must be top notch & professionally done. He should solicit donations while on the infomercial.
He should give himself time to address his critics. He should put something on that id professional, very heartfelt and moving. Just look at the top rated Ron Paul You tube videos. In fact, use them if you can. But WIN TEXAS March 4th.
Ron Paul and HQ needs to have faith in us in the Grassroots that we WILL money Bomb him back to life. after march 4th, but we have got to see it from Ron Paul... We have to see him "go all out" for the WIN in Texas.

Backdoor Primary Spending
He should spend half of his remaining money in the state, at least. And forget about the Presidential race, he should do it to help his chances in the GOP primary for his Congressional seat. Just use vague ads that don't refer to the presidency and make buys in stations that broadcast to D14. If he's smart, he'll do this.

$700,000 is a lot considering the amount Ron has on hand. Let's say he was stupid and spent all of his $6 million on texas right now, or even the amount you suggested, $3 million. That would leave him in a financial bind in the rest of the Presidential race. Because of our inability to agree on a fundraising day for him, he has no idea when more money will show up. Some of us may spend our entire paycheck the day we get it, but the more fiscally responsible among us plan and save. If he had $20 million or more in the bank, I might just agree with you.

First we read that there is still $6 million in the bank. What exactly where they going to spend that on? South Dakota in June? Then we learn that the national campaign staff will now go to the congressional campaign. That should worry everyone. This is the staff that was unable to get a first place win anywhere or move the polling numbers at all. Evidently this was also the staff of Einsteins that thought it would be good to save millions for latter. Dr Paul needed to show some SUCCESS early to show that he was indeed VIABLE. (Some of you may have heard that was an issue in people not voting for him) Then you capitalize on that showing for even more money. Not too long ago the campaign said that they needed $5 million more seperately, now we find they still have $6 million in the bank after super Tuesday??
To top this off there is word that perhaps Dr Paul didn't write the infamous "change of focus" e-mail but that a staff member did and HE DIDN'T CHECK IT himself!! Anyone heard this before?
When donations are solicited for a cause there is a great responsibility to see that they are spent wisely. Can anyone honestly say the national campaign has done this? And then ask for more?

Dude, the RNC convention is not until September. He needs funds to keep the core campaign alive until then. Very little if ANY of the remaining $6 million will get spent on advertising.
It's expensive to maintain a staff of dozens and to jet all over the country for speeches with an entourage. $6 million is pretty lean to support all that for seven months.
There will be no more significant media ads if new donations don't start coming in. It takes $2 million per state on average to fund a basic media ad campaign.
I am donating! And what I do with my money is my own business.
You can do whatever you like, but Ron Paul has made it clear that he would be in this to the end, and from a conservatives perspective, if he had blown all the money in a hurry, would in fact worry me more, then to see him spend it with caution and the experience of who has been in this game for many many years. After all, Dr. Ron Paul can not assume that the money will keep pouring in, so from my point of view, he is respecting our money and that gives me more then enough reason to send him more. I respect and understand your opinion, but I think you should show more respect for Ron Paul's age and experience in these matters. What promotes a good leader, is the amount of trust given by of his followers.

What about Radio and TV ads in western Texas?
The Congressional campaign should be buying the ads in Houston, and the presidential campaign should look to pick up some votes in more sparsely-populated western part of Texas where McCain and Huckabee are unlikely to campaign.

Dr. Paul....
... needs to save the presidential funds so he can keep on to the Convention. It's a long time between now and then. If he spent the money on ads he would have to stop flying around for speeches and would have to let all or most of the remaining staff go.
Perhaps he could do media ads if the money started coming back in. I doubt this will happen because a super-majority of people who supported Dr. Paul early on have left the effort.
