you can fool some people sometimes....
Some Facts
(II may be repeating someone else's posting, I didn't read them all)
Although I didn't check out this claim, I DO know something about this subject. There are cars that will run on compressed air. You can store an enormous amount of energy in a very small space with compressed air. Now the true application that I've been most interested in is the use of compressed air as an energy storage method for a hybrid vehicle. Think about it... It weighs less than batteries, it never has to be replaced, and thereby never introduces toxic chemicals into landfill. But it's not happening soon (from my understanding). I think it is aways off because the big car companies are so committed to the current hybrid technology and have so much investment in the pipeline that they're unwilling to "throw it all away".
But here is where the truly free market could get involved, I expect a mid sized company to build some prototype soon and excite the investment folks who are looking for this kind of thing and if they get good support we could see limited production in three to five years.
Does it run on hot air? If
Does it run on hot air? If so, I bet there are a LOT of them in Washington DC! And with infinite range!
Now THAT would be the first example of perpetual motion!
i want one
NNOOOWWWW!
NOT a Scam!

Another scam....
you'll see a lot of these if you stick with the Patriot movement for any period of time. Some guys are hawking junk that doesn't work but they assure you that you'll get 40 MPG in an SUV using our "secret" modification (limited tool knowledge required...of course).
Run your car on Water! Yes, that's right....run your car on water (hydrogen gas). Granted it costs you about $10,000.....
You'll see. There're a lot of them out there.
I think that attitude is
I think that attitude is called "contempt prior to investigation" - which was the same attitude held by people who said we'd never fly, that the earth was flat etc.
Yes, there are alot of scams. That doesn't mean that everything that defys "conventional wisdom" is a scam. But it does mean that alot of people won't bother to try something new.
The oil companies are a behemoth. The people who own majority shares would never like to see the common man get from under their grasp. That is the truth.
Everything you say is true.
Everything you say is true. However, when something is touted with a headline that defies the laws of physics, then some people are naturally going to be, um, skeptical to say the least. Like "New Car Runs on Air". Not a lie, exactly, but very misleading, and if taken at face value impossible.
I would LOVE to see the day that Big Oil falls into the ashheap of history, though! And of course, that day is coming. I just hope our civilization does not end up on that same ashheap.

doesnt work
go read up on the fundamentals of energy - www.tinaja.com/glib/energfun.pdf
compressed air is one of the most wasteful forms of stored energy. One of my businesses deals with it every day, it just doesnt add up.
these guys are scamming people. they didnt invent a way to make compressed air suddenly more efficient, it just cant work. The cost for refilling is FAR higher (and dirtier!) than just running plain ol gas.
There is suppressed science, and there pseudoscience. This is a dose of the latter with the typical plea of "we need more funds to make it more efficient and get further mileage". Sorry, wont happen, not on earth anyway.
Wow
For once you post something thought provoking Saul, although it is off topic.
I've been following "air engines" for about two years, some of them are very promising.
I believe we could get completely off of foreign gas in less than a year if we wanted to.
I'm not Saul, whoever he is.
Believe me. I was mark4rpprez.
Air Car
I contacted the website www.theaircar.com and what told they would not be importing vehicles into the US. They are in a partnership with Tata Motors of India.
A lot of potentially fabulous private sector projects go unfunded because government is in bed with Big Oil Check this out:
www.et3.com or go read about the NASA proposal to build solar collectors on the moon and microwave the power to earth. Lets face it, how much have you heard about the Tesla electric sports car (Ferrari performance and 150 mpg equivalent) or the Aptera commuter vehicle? Why do you think Ron Paul talks about fascism? The government is in bed with
Big Oil, Big Pharma and the military/industrial complex, and the only way to make any progress in these areas is to get the free market back.
Well the Aptera is brand new and the Tesla costs $80K, maybe
that has something to do with why they're not so popular.
Go President Paul!

Hydrogen, not "water"
You have to use electricity to produce hydrogen, THEN burn it in the toy car.
But, again, what could possibly go wrong?
water car
The hydrogen is in the water. solar panels supply the electricity. Anyway- NASA saay they hope to find water on the moon or mars to power extended space travel. Um..there is water here so why can't they power earth vehicles with water but they can on other planets?

I suspect, the oil companies
I suspect, the oil companies will convince the administration that they are a threat to our independence , or something like that. Then they will bomb their manufacturing plant and say they were trying to build nuclear weapons there. :)
wow some negitive posters
wow some negitive posters below me...geesh. i liked the article, I had not heard about it, thanks for sharing.
How about something positive...
Many individuals have posed the question to me... How do you protect yourself against inflation?
As a response I would like to share the following:
I have been purchasing (1) ounce silver eagle dollars with my fiat money... Two (2) per month... As a retiree living on SSN that is all I can afford...
Recently I have come across this company http://cegsilver.com from which I am now making my purchases... If you feel comfortable with this program feel free to participate... If not, do as you wish... Yes I benefit from this post as most of you will if you take advantage of the program... However, I felt confident that many of you will welcome this information... Thanks... And have a great day...

Well, it might not be a bad
Well, it might not be a bad idea for certain applications, but the headline makes it sound like some revolutionary new technology that uses air for fuel, which is a pipedream. Same for the cars that "run on water", etc. If more Americans actually learned any real chemistry and/or physics in the pathetic public schools, they would instantly scoff at such claims, and realize how ridiculous they are. It isn't a matter of new technologies ---- the laws of thermodynamics dictate what can and can not potentially be an industrial energy source, and air, water, and hydrogen are not on the list. That's not opinion or conjecture, just basic physics.
125 miles? Sounds pretty
125 miles? Sounds pretty practical for me around here.... obviously not for the long hauls..... I dont drive 125 miles a day.
This is not news....I have
This is not news....I have known about this for over a year now. Ever since MOTORTREND did an article on it.
It's just not practical for Americans.

That's what they said about the first 27 ton computer in the 40s.
Very Inefficient. Takes way more energy to compress the air
than you get out of it.

What could possibly go wrong?
What could possibly go wrong with a tank of EXTREMELY compressed air (apparently compressed enough to provide a massive amount of power) stored in a passenger vehicle?
Also note -- the energy to compress the air has to come from somewhere. This isn't a greenhouse-free car.
What are you talking about?
What are you talking about? What could possibly go wrong with a tank full of gasoline and sparks?
Not all energy produces greenhouse gases.
My God, I have to agree with
My God, I have to agree with you here!
Yeah, just how much energy is going to have to be put into compressing the air? And what is the effective range of the vehicle? (Not very far, i'm guessing).
It's just like all the talk of using hydrogen to run vehicles. That's all fine and dandy, but hydrogen is NOT and can never be an ENERGY SOURCE, it would be at best just a FUEL. It will always take more energy to disassociate water by electrolysis to get the hydrogen than will be delivered by burning the hydrogen. NO amount of research or new technology can change that fundamental fact --- otherwise you'd be talking about perpetual motion and energy.
If it's to be believed, Stan Meyer did it.
Stan Meyer was convicted in a court of fraud for his device, with the claim that it was "standard electrolysis". Well, the patent was released for public replication last year and I have examined it.
It is not, in fact, "standard electrolysis". Electronics is one of my hobbies, and I have a good idea what Meyer was doing, which is really turning electrolysis on its head by using only one side of the equation. Power=Voltage*Amperage. In Meyer's device, Amperage is held to a minimum, and voltage is multiplied through resonance.
People are already replicating and perfecting the *first step*(Meyers has many patents relating to the process not yet implimented by enthusiasts) on the web.

also search youtube for "stan meyer"
In any case, oil consumption (for car energy) can be reduced by installing a simple (standard) electrolyser - because if your not using power windows, wipers, and lights - you have electricity coming off your alternator that can be used elsewhere. Ignition (spark plug firing) takes bugger all electricity.
