Lack of sleep and high heat doesn't create murderers

I can't feel especially sorry for this guy. He should have had the fortitude to say no to his commander and do the right thing. To blame this on little sleep and heat is stretching it, in my opinion.

but then you get slapped,

but then you get slapped, then discharged...

Not sad or tragic.

This guy only got a fraction of what he really deserved. Following an unlawful order to murder an unarmed civilian and then planting a gun on him? He killed an innocent man and enjoyed doing it. It would have been tragic if he would have gotten away without punishment. How about trying to get sympathy for this murderer from the victim's family.

“Just look at us. Everything is backwards; everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the major media destroy information and religions destroy spirituality”

Tragic.

A mother in Idaho trying to Save Our Soldiers

I began this project yesterday, but they will not let me post it here. (Two attempts were immediately removed.) If you are interested in Project SOS, please email me at differentofficiant@yahoo.com
Thank you for supporting our troops - it takes more than a magnet.

I know this is off-subject...

...but not really.

I had a friend sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling 1/4 once of marijuana to a friend. The friend was underage, but she sold LSD and other more illicit drugs, and was just looking for some smoke.

Due to the mandatory minimum sentences in the state of AL, he was convicted of selling marijuana within 2 miles of a school zone (which is ridiculous because in the county he lived in, there is NO place that's not within 2 miles of a school)....and was therefore sentenced to 10 years.

This man is not a drug dealer, and refused to rat out people he knew who were. He had some extra personal smoke, and he sold it to the girl as a favor... a one-time deal.

It just goes to show you how f'd up our system is.

What worries me

Is how easily you use this language and how completely you expect none of them to take any responsibility for their actions and you act as if all they want is a little candy. I see the tragedy here, but not in the places everyone else is seeing it.

what a waste of human life

mandatory mins in situations like this are horrible.

Honestly

That is so ridiculous. What a joke law. I feel for your friend.

Yes, sad for the Iraqi he killed

Exhaustion, battle fatigue have their effects. But, the argument that "I was just following orders" is false.

I thought our soldiers had all kinds of "tie-wraps" for handcuffs and such. They could've gagged the man.

It was murder. That Iraqi was a father and because of that soldier he leaves a widow and fatherless children and gives America a worse name. That he got 10 years shows how much we value people- kill someone and what do you get? 10 years in jail.

I have NO sympathy with Vela. He's the same kind of man that would shoot his own people if ordered to do so.

new day new bumps

I am active military and

I am active military and have always be told to follow through with an order and ask questions after the fact. Would I do that if I thought it was unlawful? Absolutely NOT!

so true mate

''Sgt. Vega will spend ten

''Sgt. Vega will spend ten years in jail for the death of a single unarmed civilian while the Commander-in-chief of the military that gave the orders that lead to him serving in Iraq remains in office to finish his term. President Bush is ultimately responsible for thousands of “collateral damage” deaths of innocent Iraqi civilians, yet he will never spend a single night in prison.''

It is sickening

i have showed this stuff to

i have showed this stuff to my 19 yearold son and told him.. unless Ron Paul is President.. you don't join the military.. all you are is thug for the one world order jerkoffs and they don't give a flying rats tail about you!

It should wake our soldiers

It should wake our soldiers up. Should show them not to follow orders but to do what is right and follow the constitution or pay the price.

Very sad situation

I agree he is responsible for his actions, and I can also understand his circumstances leading to poor judgement. The sad part is that he has been thrown into a situation that if it's morally unethical for Bush do start this Fuchin War, then what is the measure of ethics our troops should obide too. Its a looser all the way around.

But what didnt make sense is if they were affraid of the civilians making to much noise, then why use a gun?

If there is a right to his situation, I hope it comes forth.

from the perspective of a mother

935 lies were told to start this war, Bush remains unchallenged and the war rages on. I consider every soldier convicted of a crime ABSOLVED. They should NEVER have been in Iraq. Impeach Cheney and Bush, set our sons and daughters free.

Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.

yes!!!

From the perspective of someone on the ground

You are ultimately and individually accountable for what you do. You cannot take the out of, "My superior told me to do it". Especially with regards to an unlawful order. You learn about unlawful orders and not to follow them in boot camp. It isn't rocket science, you follow the articles of war, you deviate from them at your own peril.

Courage isn't the absence of fear, it is action in spite of fear.
Honor is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.

As an individual, as an adult, as a human being, you know what is right and what is wrong. As a member of the US Armed forces, you know what is right or wrong.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, MARINE! I SALUTE YOU AND ALL

OTHERS IN THE ARMED FORCES! I was wondering what would have happened to that guy if he had refused the order? How do they teach you to handle that kind of a situation when your superior gives you an unlawful order? Would he have faced court martial for refusing?
I wonder what would happen if all of our troops just layed down their weapons in Iraq and Afghanistan and refused to fight anymore? They couldn't court-martial the ENTIRE Army, Marines, and all others! This is an ILLEGAL OCCUPATION, Not a declared war, that must be done by Congress, so technically, they don't have to follow orders to kill anyone!
