March on Washingon, LETS SET A DATE!
I WILL CONTINUE TO UPDATE THIS THREAD WITH NEW INFORMATION.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Semi-Official Website for this effort is at http://www.revolutionmarch.com
I know there are tons of threads bouncing around about this new major announcement... But we need to consolidate and organize this idea!
We can use either this thread or another thread as a hub to pick potential dates for the march and hopefully get a website set up rather quickly to take pledges, gather information, set up chip ins for chartered buses, etc.
I had originally heard about a potential march on Independence day on the 4th of July, but this is rather late in the game and will only harness media attention after most or all of the primaries have ended.
Dr. Paul said in the recent video announcement that it needs to happen rather soon, I believe he said 3-4 months. We need to gather a list of dates in the 3-4 month range that will be a popular theme (like Guy Fawkes day and the Tea Party) but will also allow people to come without missing an enormous amount of work or school. (Though I imagine some flexibility will be necessary)
If we can gather a list of potential dates I will set up a poll in a day or so to get a feel for how people feel about the dates suggested.
We want the date to be far enough away that we can organize adequately, but not so far away that we can't have an impact.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
April 15th is Tax Day (Tuesday)
April 19th was the day of the "Shot heard 'round the world" (Saturday)
May 26th is Memorial Day (Monday)
June 14th is Flag Day (Saturday)
July 4th is Independence Day (Friday)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those are some obvious existing holidays, but I'm sure there are some less well-known landmark dates (Yet again, Guy Fawkes day and Tea Party Day weren't national Holidays)
Give me some dates!
P.S. One advantage of not using a national holiday is that there won't be a ton of other coverage going on (parades, etc..)
Not to mention, if it goes well enough, it could always become a new holiday!
Other comments about using known holidays such as memorial day weekend or Independence Day is that there are potential limitations on where we're allowed to be in Washington on those days... Also these are government holidays and all government employees will be out of town.
My personal 2 cents is that we should pick a neutral day that isn't affiliated with any particular event.. so I'll be voting "other" in my poll.
Edit on my 2 cents: It appears flag day is getting at least a bit of attention in early results (only 16 votes cast so far however) because its in a decent time window, and isn't an OVERLY popular holiday already. What are peoples general thoughts on flag day or the Monday following?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: HERE'S A PRELIMINARY POLL, I MAY SET UP ANOTHER IF OTHER IMPORTANT DATES COME TO MIND.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: There are people saying "It absolutely must be on a weekend" and others saying "It absolutely must not be on a weekend" One thing we must consider is that NO ONE DAY IS GOING TO BE PERFECT FOR EVERYONE... There will be arguments against every potential day.. we just need to figure out which day(s) work best for the most people.

Why The Negatives
This will at least be the biggest event for Dr. Paul yet, and I am going to be a part of it. Why not at the end of the long primary season, we consolidate together in one last rally cry. Come on people he drew 4,400 in Minnesota. Him calling all supporters to march is great.
I agree that his calling us to march is great.
But don't we want to follow what he said in his video? Look whats happening in this country. We write to, e-mail, fax and call our representatives and senators to no avail. They have their own agenda and "we the people be damned."
I agree with Dr. Paul. "we have to turn this around soon."
If our congress people aren't there, who receives the message?
The March...
I agree that a neutral day should be set for this event. I voted "other" as well.
I also believe that a weekday march on the capital after the college core RP supporters get out for summer vacation (may 16th), to generate "numbers" is a good idea. Congress will be in session and we'll be be able to get our message where we need it to resonate.
The MSM will be more likely to pick this up as well on a weekday.
Some alternative radio stations, who support Ron Paul. Have had supporters calling in saying "I'm not going to march if it's on a weekend". or "What good does it do to wave signs, listen to political speeches, buy t-shirts and go home? Have we accomplished anything? Everyone will come home and wonder why nothing has changed."
I feel the same way. "If a tree falls in the forest and there's nobody there to see or hear it, did it fall?" We have to be seen and heard by the congress and the media. Ron Paul said, that we have to, "send a powerful message where the media can’t ignore us”.
Over the past few days
I created and ran 3 polls, narrowing the choices to 4/19 or 6/21, and with over 300 votes in the runoff poll, 6/21 won by nearly 2 to 1.
http://www.vizu.com/res/Current+Events/Politics+-+U.S./Domes...
If the campaign sets a different date, then that's when we'll all go, come hell or high water, but until then I think we've pretty much settled on June 21.
The march is NOT about votes in primaries, it is about giving Dr. Paul a voice by our show of numbers. If you want votes in PA or other late primaries, please get out and canvass!!!
And PLEASE, for the love of God, stop suggesting Memorial Day, July 4th, or anytime before school is out. Any of those would be certain to result in failure for the goals of the march.
Ron Paul
If you check the campaign website you will see that it is Dr. Paul that is going to choose the date! All this debating about when WE should go is useless. We will be informed by HIM when the march will be.

Anyone posting June or late May dates is a troll. The establishment must be panicking that we might do this before the primaries in early May, so LETS DO IT!
well I guess...
Well I guess I have just been declared a troll, my 1st time. I support Ron Paul. I also support his message. Unless I'm mis-interpreting his message (I live here in his hometown and he has been our congressman for the past 20 years) about defending Liberty and adhering to the law of OUR Constitution. Therefore, I will be at the Liberty Rally on June 21st, the 220th anniversary of the Constitution becoming the law of our great nation. If that makes me a troll, so be it. DON'T YOU PEOPLE GET IT... this march isn't about Ron Paul, he suggested it for us to show DC and the rest of world that the revolution is about taking back our government and returning it back to "We the People...". I hope to see each of my fellow patriots in DC, at the Liberty Rally on 6/21/08. The rest of ya'll are going to do whatever. We are not free if we aren't willing to defend Liberty, Patriot4Paul.
we are not free if we aren't willing to defend Liberty
June 21st
I voted in the poll. I believe everyone should vote in the poll.
Healthnuttie for Ron Paul

Opt for June date
Again, given the college age students who would wish to be there, as well as parents who may want to use the opportunity to bring their younger kids to the event (and do a little "historical vacation" in the nation's capital), I would opt for a June date to maximize the march potential...
March should be before April 22nd
The Revolution March should be held sometime before April 22nd due to the simple fact that these states listed below will be voting after April 22nd... The media attention will attract voters to vote once they see the Revolution March... April 19th or April 20th would be perfect.
Pennsylvania - 4/22
Indiana - 5/6
North Carolina - 5/6
Nebraska - 5/13
West Virginia - 5/13
Kentucky - 5/20
Oregon - 5/20
Idaha - 5/27
Montana - 6/3
New Mexico - 6/3
South Dakota - 6/3
Convention in St. Paul - 10/1 - 10/4

Either do it AFTER May 19 to guarantee finals are done or...
Have it at least 3 weeks before so it's not exam time or study time.

I like April 15th or sooner.
In the world's broad fields of battle. In the bivoac of life. Be not like dumb driven cattle...be a HERO in the strife.
Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?
April 15th keeps the message clear
for more impact and relates to a recent activity of most Americans.
Defend Liberty!
MAY 17TH-It is almost
MAY 17TH
-It is almost exactly 3 months from now.
-It's after most finals.
-It's after the book release.
-May 17th falls on a weekend this year AND NEXT YEAR in case we decide to repeat it next year with larger numbers.

THE SECOND AMERICAN REVOLUTION
lets march!!!! make a youtube.lets dvd it. hang signs. just like v for vandetta
Since so many college students are supporters
it would be good to coincide with Spring Break. But I also like the April 19th suggestion to coincide with the first battle for Independence.
April 19 - First Battle of the American Revolution!
The open battles of the American Revolution - at Lexington and Concord - were fought on April 19, 1775. This happens to fall on a Saturday this year...

Yes
Its hard to argue with the Patriots if the date was good enough for them it is good enough for us.
I Like This!
We are in the continuing battle for Independence.
Last week of March - Gives us 6 weeks 20% of states to vote
Gives us 6 weeks. Coincides with many spring breaks for schools.
We need this as soon as possible
Following this the following states would still need to vote:
Pennsylvania - 4/22
Indiana - 5/6
North Carolina - 5/6
Nebraska - 5/13
West Virginia - 5/13
Kentucky - 5/20
Oregon - 5/20
Idaha - 5/27
Montana - 6/3
New Mexico - 6/3
South Dakota - 6/3
Convention in St. Paul - 10/1 - 10/4
