I'm going to start looking into the area hotels once there is a date set for a group discount. Anyone else interesting in this idea?

Very good idea. I am concerned that if we pick a major holiday date- many hotels close to where we need to be will be booked for the summer tourist season - and those of us who plan on flying will be kinda screwed and forced to get hotels far from where we need to be. I realize D.C. has lots of hotels - but even in Chicago the one's close to where you want to be (downtown) get filled up and sold out ALL THE TIME. Location is key - as your realtor always says.

I want to be within walking distance.

That's a Great idea! I would be very interested. My husband I are very likely going to go even if I don't make it past the state convention here in Washington State, I can't stand the possibility of missing all that energy!
