How come there are no other candidates in this race willing to point out the absurdity of the U.S. having military bases in Japan? If there was ever a country capable of defending itself, it's Japan. What cause are we serving occupying their country?

yourself further if you please . AmericaAmerica .
Especially about the title of your post.
As a veteran of the cold war stationed in Schwebish Gumund West Germany nuclear missile site from 1973 to 1975 ,, i know first hand how being away from home soil impacts soldiers. I would like to see all of our soldiers posted along our borders and domestic bases than to have them serve one day abroad anywhere on this Planet. Is it the rape of their youth that you are lamenting or the unfortunate display of one soldier gone awry? Because one thing is true , American soldiers are not rapists , they are honorable people with the occasional unbalanced individual who is not really fit to be a soldier. But name an armed force
any where on this planet that has not had members transgress in far more atrocious ways . I do not condone the actions of that soldier in Japan. Our soldiers mostly bleed for little thanks and often time for undeserving nationalities.
One more thing , of what relevance is your post regarding Ron PAul ? why don`t you write the other candidates who want our soldiers protecting those nations like the one you probably occupy space upon ? The only mistake made on behalf of America by the leader of this great nation after wwII was to rebuild the part of the world that should have drowned in its aftermath . Today after 62 years of protection no war debts repaid to our country we get lip service from feudal people who engaged in wars that lasted centuries . Personally outside some commonality of language i feel no kinship with anything bearing the initials UK.

History

A condition of the Japanese surrender in World War II was that Japan could not keep a standing army. In order to protect Japan from its Asian neighbors in light of a lot of bad relationships there, we set up our own bases there.

Japan's military is still tiny relative to its population and is not considered an "army" but more of a national guard.

It makes a lot less sense today, but understand the history first.
